‘Drug trader’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Rajganj area of Manirampur upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rubel Hosne Shawn, 22, son of Bachchu Hawladar.
Sub-inspector Debasish Biswash of Manirampur Police Station said tipped off, members of Rab -6 conducted a drive in Rajganj area.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight.
After the gunfight other drug traders managed to flee leaving Shawon bullet- wounded on the spot, the SI said.
The injured were taken to Manirampur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, he added.
Rab seized a foreign pistol, one round of bullet and 63 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup from the spot.
Three cases were filed against the deceased with Manirampur Police Station.

An alleged drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Sarapole Kolabagan in Sadar upazila in Jashore on early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Babu, 40, of Krishnabari village in Sadar upazila.
Tasmim Alam, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said tipped off that a big consignment of drugs would be handed over, police conducted a drive in the area at 2am.
As soon as police arrived the spot, drug traders opened fire at police, forcing them to fire back in self-defense that triggered the gunfight, leaving Babu and two cops injured, he added.
The OC said Babu was taken to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead while two injured policemen were admitted to the hospital.
Police recovered a shooter gun, 200 Yaba pills, 54 bottles of phensedyls from the spot.

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Sarkhola village in Abhaynagar upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Mollah, 26, son of Moslem Mollah of Nauapara municiplaity area.
Tipped off that some drug traders were sharing phensidyl bottles for selling in the area, a team of Rab-6 conducted a drive in the area, said commanding officer of Rab-6, Lieutenant Colonel Rawshan Kabir.
Sensing presence of the elite force members, the criminals opened fire on the Rab men, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, Maruf Molla was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.
Later, he was taken to local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Two Rab members were also injured in the incident.
One pistol, one hundred bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
