A Rohingya youth was shot to death, allegedly by members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), at Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Yunus, son of Hamid Hossain of the camp. Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said members of ARSA went into the camp around 7:30 pm on Tuesday and opened fire on Yunus, suspecting him to be involved in the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), leaving him injured. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today (January 23, 2023) arrested two suspected members of new militant group 'Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya' after a gunfight at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar. The arrestees were identified as Ronobir, a Shura member and head of the armed wing of the militant group, and his associate Bashar, a bomb-making expert. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the militants opened fire on them, forcing the Rab personnel to fire back, he added. Two more Rohingyas were diagnosed with coronavirus at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, forcing the local administration to put some 5,000 Rohingyas at the camp under complete lockdown.
