PM to exchange Eid greetings with diplomats, people of all walks of life at Jamuna
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will exchange Eid greetings with diplomats, academics and people from all walks of life on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The greeting exchange programme will begin at the State Guest House Jamuna at 10am, the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said on Wednesday.
“The Prime Minister will offer Eid prayers at the National Eidgah. He will then go to Jamuna at 10am where he will first exchange greetings with diplomats,” he said.
He said the Prime Minister will later exchange Eid greetings with members of the cabinet, Members of Parliament, distinguished citizens, academics, religious scholars, cultural personalities and senior government and private officials as well as people from all sections of society.
After the programme, the Prime Minister will visit Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with his family members to pay respects at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
National Eidgah set for main Eid congregation, 5 at Baitul Mukarram
Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 will be celebrated on either on Friday or Saturday, depending on the moon sighting.
This will be Tarique Rahman’s first Eid celebration in the country in over one and a half decades.
He had spent the past 17 years celebrating Eid in London before returning to the country with his family on December 25 last year.
He assumed office as Prime Minister after being elected in the 13th national election on February 12.

Final preparations are on in full swing at Dhaka’s National Eidgah ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Ahead of the main Eid congregation, extensive cleaning, installation of pandals and heightened security arrangements have been put in place across the sprawling grounds.

National Eidgah ready for main Eid congregation: DSCC administrator
All preparations have been completed for the main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr at the National Eidgah near the Supreme Court, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam said on Monday.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to join the main Eid prayers scheduled to be held at 8:30 am at the National Eidgah, he told reporters after inspecting the Eidgah grounds.
The Eidgah ground covering about 25,400 square metres can accommodate around 35,000 devotees at a time.
Main Eid Jamaat to be held at Nat’l Eidgah
Separate entry points and prayer arrangements have been ensured for women.
A large pandal has been set up across the ground.
Adequate fans, lighting and air-conditioning facilities have been arranged to ensure a comfortable environment for devotees.
Considering the possibility of bad weather, rain protection coverings and special drainage systems have also been installed. If the weather becomes unfavourable, the main Eid congregation will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9 am.
Drinking water will be available at entry points and inside the Eidgah.

Main Eid Jamaat to be held at Nat’l Eidgah
The main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation will be held at 8:30am at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises in the capital on the Eid day.
It will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9am in case of inclement weather.
The decision was taken at a recent inter-ministerial meeting.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and was chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad.
Subject to the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated on March 20 or March 21.
The meeting also decided to form a six-member committee, with the Director General of the Islamic Foundation as the convener, to take an immediate decision on shifting the main Eid congregation to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in case of severe weather.
It was also decided that the Islamic Foundation will send a list of three prominent Islamic scholars for the role of imam, three noted Qaris for recitation of the Holy Quran and three presenters to conduct the Eid congregation to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
From this list, the ministry will nominate one imam and an alternate imam, one Qari and an alternate Qari, and one presenter and an alternate presenter for the main Eid congregation.

Dr Yunus offers Eid prayers at National Eidgah
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday offered the holy Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the National Eidgah in Dhaka.
Members of the Council of Advisers also offered the Eid prayers at the same venue.

Earlier, the Chief Adviser greeted the people of the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

DSCC completes preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at National Eidgah
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has completed all preparations for the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at the National Eidgah ground.At a press briefing at the National Eidgah Administrator of DSCC Md. Shahjahan Mia said the venue is ready to accommodate approximately 35,000 Muslim devotees.To ensure a smooth and secure congregation, law enforcement agencies, including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), will be deployed around the venue, he said. Special security measures have been put in place, and necessary facilities have been arranged for the convenience of Muslim devotees.

Main Eid congregation to be held at Nat’l Eidgah at 8am
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8am on the Eid day.
However, if weather remains unfavourable or the main congregation is not held at the National Eidgah for any other reason the main congregation will be held at 8:30 am at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on Eid-ul-Azha celebrations headed by State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan at the Secretariat on Sunday.
Depending on the sighting of the moon, the holy Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be celebrated on July 10.

DMP to devotees: Bring nothing but prayer mats and umbrellas at National Eidgah
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has asked the devotees to bring only prayer mats and umbrellas when they join the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at National Eidgah.
The DMP commissioner said on Sunday “This is for security as a four tier measure has been ensured at the National Eidgah for the congregation.”
He was briefing the press about the security arrangements in the area for Eid-ul-Fitr.

While replying to a question the DMP chief said “There is no threat of militant attack at the main Eid congregation."
“This year DMP will ensure safety in1,468 Eid jamaats to be held across Dhaka in small and large mosques, eidgahs” he added.
He said “Bomb disposal unit will sweep the whole area before the beginning of Eid jamaat at National Eidgah and it will remain under CCTV camera surveillance.”

The DMP commissioner requested the worshipers to come to the congregation at the Eidgah before the scheduled time as it will take time to go through the checking.
He said similar security measures would be taken if the main congregation of Eid is held at Baitul Mukarram in case of inclement weather.
