Dengue death toll climbs to 230 with 4 more deaths
With four more deaths from dengue confirmed in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, the official death toll from the disease rose to 230 in 2022 – the highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019.
On November 3, Bangladesh reported nine dengue deaths, the highest in a single day this year.
Of all the patients who died in the last 24 hours, two were from Dhaka division, one each from Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions. The latest numbers took Dhaka, Chattogram, and Barishal divisions’ death toll to 139, 57, and 11, respectively.
During this time, 646 more patients, including 320 in Dhaka city, were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 2,478 dengue patients, including 1,386 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
DGHS has recorded 52,807 dengue cases and 50,099 recoveries so far this year.
Bangladesh is being hit hard by a recurrence of an outbreak of dengue, the disease that is endemic to the country.
Doctors and health experts say that measures taken by the city corporations and other authorities are not proving to be effective. The publicity and drives carried out by the authorities to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquito are proving to be inadequate.

Dengue death toll rises to 192 with 5 more deaths
With five more deaths reported in 24 hours till Thursday morning, this year’s fatalities from Dengue climbed to 192.
During this period, 888 patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest deaths, three were reported from Chattogram and one each from Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.

The new figures raised the death toll in Dhaka division to 118, in Chattogram division to 48 and in Mymensingh to five.
Of the new patients, 475 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 413 outside it, according to the DGHS.
A total of 3,248 dengue patients, including 1,915 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The directorate has recorded 46,486 dengue cases and 43,046 recoveries so far this year.

Dengue death toll in Bangladesh reaches 182, surpassing previous record
With five more deaths reported in 24 hours till Tuesday morning this year’s fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease Dengue reached 182, exceeding all previous records in Bangladesh.
Earlier the country recorded the highest 179 deaths from Dengue in a year in 2019.
In the first week of November, already 41 people died from Dengue while 6,778 were hospitalised.
During last 24 hours, 820 patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The gradual increase in dengue infections has created panic among the residents of Dhaka city.

Of the new patients, 450 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 370 outside it, according to the DGHS.
A total of 3,223 dengue patients, including 1,947 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The directorate has recorded 44,802 dengue cases and 41, 397 recoveries so far this year.

Dengue death toll rises to 44 with 2 more deaths in 24hrs, 381 more hospitalised
Two more Dengue patients died in 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 44.
During this period, 381 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths were reported from Dhaka division.
With the new numbers, the dengue death toll in Dhaka division rose to 21, in Chattogram it remained unchanged at 19, and in Barishal division at four.
Of the new patients, 302 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 79 outside it.
A total of 1,493 dengue patients, including 1,103 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the directorate has recorded 10,777 dengue cases and 9,240 recoveries so far.

Another Dengue patient died in 24 hours till Sundaymorning, raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 33.
During this period, 360 more people were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase in Bangladesh, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest death was reported from Cox's Bazar.
With the new numbers, the dengue death toll from Chattogram division stood at 17, it stood at 13 at Dhaka and three at Barishal division.

Dengue claimed another life and 85 new patients were hospitalised in 24 hours till Saturday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this, the authorities recorded nine deaths from the viral infection this year.

Although dengue – a leading cause of serious illness and death in some Asian and Latin American countries – was first reported in Bangladesh in 1964, the first epidemic occurred in 2000, claiming 93 lives that year. It has since become endemic in the country, with outbreaks recorded every year since. Although for a three-year period at one point, the number of deaths from the virus fell almost near zero, its most fatal year yet was in 2019, when 179 died experiencing the severe form of the disease.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, it seemed to take a backseat, as only three deaths were reported from dengue that year.

However, 105 dengue patients, including 95 in Dhaka division, died in 2021.
Dengue is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates worldwide, mostly in urban and semi-urban areas.
