Yesterday (July 6, 2023) Tamim Iqbal announced the end of his career for the Bangladesh cricket team. Opinions among fans are divided regarding Tamim's retirement announcement. Some fans consider it a "timely decision", while others believe it is an "irreparable" loss for Bangladeshi cricket, especially with the World Cup approaching. Records say, the Bangladesh cricket team will certainly miss Tamim Iqbal.
Tamim’s achievements as a cricketer are noteworthy. He is the highest scorer for Bangladesh across all three formats. He said goodbye to international cricket after scoring more than 15,000 runs in three formats. Tamim has the highest, 25, centuries in all three formats for Bangladesh. Tamim’s 14 centuries in ODIs are the highest century record in ODIs by any Bangladeshi player.

In 2011, Tamim became one of the four cricketers of the year by the Wisden Almanack, which is known as the "Bible of Cricket". In the same year, the left-hander was selected as the second Bangladeshi to be named Wisden’s Test Cricketer of the Year. Tamim scored 295 runs in the 2016 T20 World Cup and became the highest run scorer of the tournament.
Tamim Iqbal delivered incredible performances both on Bangladeshi soil and outside the country. His average is 37 at home and 35 away, with seven centuries at both places.

Tamim finds commentary an ‘interesting’ job
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal was seen in the commentary box for the first time during the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Eliminator match between Khulna Tigers and Chattogram Challengers on Monday.
Tamim has a great speaker in him that he revealed during the early days of the pandemic when he hosted some big cricketing names on his social media handle including Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Kane Williamson.
But Tamim in the commentary box is a completely new sight for Bangladesh’s cricket fans. Many expressed their excitement on social media seeing Tamim in the commentary box. Tamim himself also expressed his excitement while talking to the media.

“I came to the BCB today for a meeting,” he said during a short visit to the press box.
“I was asked to join the commentary team during the Pakistan series at home. I tried it today. It was really interesting. I may give it (taking commentary as a profession) a thought in future.”
Tamim got Athar Ali Khan, the former Bangladesh cricketer and long-time commentator, in the box and shared his experience.

Tamim represented Minister Group Dhaka in the ongoing BPL. He scored more than 400 runs with a stunning and match-winning hundred in Chattogram.

Thumb injury rules Tamim out of Pakistan series
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the Pakistan series which begins on November 19 with a T20I at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
In this series, Pakistan will take on the hosts in three T20Is and two Tests. The first Test of the series will be played in Chattogram from November 26 and the second one in Dhaka from December 4.
Tamim was not part of the Bangladesh squad that played in the T20 World Cup in Oman and the UAE.
Instead of the World Cup, Tamim had opted to take part in a T20 league in Nepal. However, he could not finish that due to a finger injury.

Due to the same injury, he was ruled out of the National Cricket League (NCL). He was expected to return to the national side with the Pakistan series.
But on Sunday, Tamim confirmed that the latest scan revealed that he was carrying a fracture on his left thumb.
It was learnt that Tamim wanted to play only Test matches against the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-finalists.
The left-handed batter played his last international match in July this year in a one-day series against Zimbabwe.
He last played Test cricket early this year against Sri Lanka and T20I in March at home against Zimbabwe.
