Tk 11 crore robbery: Mastermind among 3 held with Tk 58 lakh
An intelligence team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three more people including the mastermind, from Dhaka and Netrakona districts in connection with the robbery of Tk 11.25 crore of a bank from a private security agency’s vehicle in Turag area of Uttara in the capital.
They also recovered Tk 58.7 lakh from thir possession.
The arrestees are Mohammad Hridoy, 21, Mohammad Milon Mia, 29 and Akash, the mastermind of the robbery incident.
Tipped off, a team of intelligence team of DMP conducted separate drives in Karail slum of Banani area in the capital and Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district and arrested them, said a press release issued by deputy commissioner of police (media and public relations) of DMP, Faruk Hossain.
With this, 11 people have been arrested and Tk 7.1 crore recovered so far.

During interrogation, it was known that, among the robbers, Akash and Sohel Rana made the plot of the robbery incident and a number of people divided into different groups committed the robbery, the release added.
Sohel Rana, now fugitive, was a driver of Money Plant Link Limited, a private security agency, and he knew well about the movement of the vehicle.
The robber gang took the control of the vehicle on that day without any obstruction, it said.
During interrogation, police came to know that the members of the gang were collected from Sunamganj, Sylhet, Netrakona, Gopalganj and Barishal. After the robbery, they took their share and managed to flee the scene, the release said.
Akash and Sohel took a lion share of the money.
Robbers looted cash money worth Tk 11 crore cash from a vehicle of Money Plant Ltd while it was going to refill money at the ATM of Dutch Bangla Bank in Savar, in Turag area of Uttara in the capital.
Earlier, on Saturday, the intelligence teams recovered over Tk 2.53 core more and arrested eight people from Dhaka, its adjacent areas and Sunamganj.
A private car, used in the robbery, has also been seized, it said.
6 get life term for murder during robbery in Kushtia
A Kushtia court on Wednesday sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a man during a robbery in Daulatdia upazila of the district over 20 years back.
Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Md Tajul Islam also fined the convicts Tk 25,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment, said Anup Kumar Nandy, public prosecutor of the court.

The convicts are Swapon, Naharul, Mokbul, Shafi, Shahjahan, and Ajmal, all are residents of the upazila.
The court also acquitted eight other people as the allegations brought against them could not be proved, the lawyer said.
Of them, Swapon, Mokbul and Naharul were tried in absentia.
According to the case statement, a group of robbers equipped with lethal weapons committed robbery at the house of one Shahjahan Ali in Philipnagar village under the upazila on April 27, 2002.
The robbers killed Shahjahan Ali when he tried to resist the robbers while they were fleeing with valuables.

On the following day, victim’s son Borhan Uddin Bappi filed a murder case at the local police station.
78-year-old killed in Old Dhaka house 'robbery'
A 78-year-old man was reportedly killed by robbers at his residence in Old Dhaka's Chawkbazar.
According to Mansur Ahmed's son Sarwar Ahmed, his father was found in a pool of blood with his hands and legs tied inside his home on the second floor of his six-storey building in Khaje Dewan Road Thursday midnight.
Mansur was whisked off to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Earlier, at 9pm, Sarwar and other members of Mansur's family went to a wedding ceremony, but the 78-year-old stayed home because he was not feeling well.
Returning home at midnight, Sarwar and others found the door to Mansur's flat locked. As they broke open the door only to find a bloodied Mansur on the floor.
Sarwar said the robbers injected his father with some drug before looting the house, and he later died from a serious injury to the head.
"Everything was ransacked; all the cash and gold stored in the house were looted," he said but could not provide the exact amount.
"We are investigating the incident and the body has been kept at a hospital morgue for autopsy," Abdul Qayum, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said.

Five members of robbery gang arrested in Narayanganj: Police
Police say they have arrested five members of an inter-district robbery gang while they were preparing to rob a power sub-station in Golakandail area under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.
Among the five arrested, four are from Chattogram and one is from Cumilla. Police said that all of them are involved with a Chattogram-based robbery gang and there are numerous cases pending against them with different police stations across the country.
According to Sheikh Billal Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj district, a 15-member robbery gang was preparing to break into a 400/230kv power sub-station operated under Power Grid of Bangladesh with locally-made weapons on Sunday night.

“Upon receiving the information, police conducted a drive and cordoned off the power sub-station. Although most of the robbers fled, police were able to arrest five of them from the spot. Besides, a truck used in robbery was also seized,” said Billal.
Billal added that a case was filed with Rupganj police station in this regard and the arrestees were produced before the court on Monday.
Robbers loot 500 bhori gold from Keraniganj jewellery shop
In broad daylight, a group of armed and masked robbers stormed into a jewellery shop on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Keraniganj and fled with 500 bhori gold Wednesday, police said.
"Six motorcycle-borne men entered Al-Amin Jewellers at crowded Abdullahpur Bazar around 2pm. They fired about 15 bullets in the air and threw 12 bombs before and after committing the crime to terrorise the locals," Additional Superintendent of Police (Keraniganj circle) Shahabuddin said.
After barging into the shop, the robbers also threatened the shop owner Shwapon (50) and his staff to remain mum and not to resist.
"The robbers left the area after committing the robbery in five minutes. As Shwapon tried to catch one of them, they shot him in the leg," Shahabuddin said.
"Legal actions will be taken against them," he added.

Narayanganj: 6 highway robbery gang members held; 2 victims rescued
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have detained six members of a robbery gang with locally made weapons and a bus from Narayanganj's Bandar and Rupganj upazilas Friday night.
They also rescued two robbery victims and seized a pickup truck from the gang.
The detainees were identified as Musa Ali, 40, from Narayanganj's Sonargaon; Naim Mia, 24, Abu Sufiyan, 20, and Md Mamun, 24, from the district's Rupganj, Md Shamim, 35, from Narsingdi's Shibpur, and Md Rony, 26, from Narsingdi Sadar.

Friday night, the robbers took control of an egg-laden pickup truck on the Bhulta highway and drove it towards Madanpur on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, with their bus following behind.
Also, the robbers blindfolded the pickup truck driver and his assistant before throwing them on their bus. On information, Rab caught the gang members.
The arrestees, during primary interrogation, said they had long been involved in such. After a "successful robbery," they used to sell the products at discounted prices.
"The robber gang consists of 10-12 members. They had been planning and executing highway robberies in Narayanganj highways," Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of Rab Headquarters, said Saturday.
During the daytime, the arrestees would work as drivers, helpers, mason, and apparel workers. But as the night fell, they would team up and take control of goods-laden vehicles on the highway.
Legal action will be taken against the arrestees, Al Moin said.
Robbery & rape in Tangail moving bus: Mastermind among 10 held
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have detained ten more people, including the ‘mastermind’ of the robbery incident after hijacking a Chattogram-bound bus in Tangail when a woman commuter was raped.
The detainees were identified as mastermind Ratan Hossain, 21, Md Alauddin, 24, Sohag Mondol, 20, Khandakar Md Hasmat Ali alias Dipu, 23, Md Babu Hossain alias Julhas, 21, Md Jibon, 21, Md Abdul Mannan, 22, Md Nayeem Sarkar, 19, Russell Talukdar, 32, and Md Aslam Talukdar alias Raihan.
The Rab members detained the 10 after conducting drives in Dhaka, Gazipur and Sirajganj on Sunday, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rab headquarters, said while briefing reporters on Monday.
Rab also seized 20 mobile phone sets, two silver bangles, 14 SIM (subscriber identity module) cards and a sharp weapon used in robbery from their possession.
During primary interrogation, it was known that mastermind Ratan served jail for one and a half years for robbing a bus of ‘Savar Paribahan’ along with Jibon, who was a helper of a bus, in 2018. After being released from jail on bail in 2020, Ratan snatched an auto-rickshaw and again jailed for another year.

After being released on bail, he and his gang committed robberies on the highways in Savar, Gazipur or Sirajganj areas.
During the robbery in Tangail, Jibon was engaged in looting the goods of the passengers.
Legal steps will be taken against the detainees, the official added.
On August 3, the spine-chilling crime occurred in Raktipara area of Tangail's Madhupur upazila.
When the bus took the busy Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the Natiapara area, the seven robbers whiffed out guns, hijacked the vehicle, and drove it towards Madhupur upazila.
Posing as passengers, the seven boarded the bus in two groups in a span of 10 minutes around 11pm after it resumed its onward journey following a stopover at a hotel in Sirajganj district.
Twenty-four people, including 22 passengers and two staffers, were on board the bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ at the time.
On a desolate stretch, the armed gang robbed the twenty-four people, including 22 passengers of cash, jewellery and mobile phones.
They then blindfolded the passengers and raped the woman commuter on board.
The passengers' ordeal continued for over three hours till the seven criminals forced them to get off the bus and drove the heavy vehicle towards Raktipara's Jam-e-Mosque, where they abandoned it and fled with the booty, police said.
An FIR was lodged in connection with the robbery and rape.
On Thursday, Raza Mia, 32, was arrested from the Deula area of Tangail district town, said police. Raza is a driver of ‘Jhatika Service’ bus in Tangail and lived in a rented house in Tangail new bus terminal area.
During interrogation, Raza told cops that he was the one who drove the bus while others held the passengers and staff hostage at gunpoint, said Sarkar Md Kaisar, superintendent of Tangail Police.
Tangail bus horror: Suspected robber remanded
A court here on Thursday placed one of the seven armed robbers who allegedly hijacked a Chattogram-bound bus in Tangail, looted commuters and raped a young woman, on a five-day police remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Badal Kumar Chanda passed the order after police sought a seven-day remand to interrogate gang member Raza Mia, said court inxpector Tanbir Ahmed.
Meanwhile ,Senior Judicial Majistrate Rumi Khatun recorded statement of the rape survivor under section 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act Thursday evening.
“In primary medical test of the girl evidence of rape was found," said Assistant Professor Dr Rehana Parvin, head of the three-member medical board formed by Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital in this regard.
Raza Mia, 32, was arrested from the Deula area of Tangail district town Thursday morning, said police.

Bizman robbed of Tk 1.5 lakh in Sylhet
Armed men held a stone crushing mill owner at gunpoint and robbed him of Tk 1.5 lakh in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday, police said.
Around 8.30pm, Bashir Mia, son of Imamul Haque from Islampur village of the upazila, was returning home from Allah Bhorosha Crusher Mill in the Bholaganj No 10 area.
"As soon as I reached the Parua Sakera area of the busy Sylhet-Bholaganj highway, the criminals intercepted me, pointed a gun at me and left with my bag containing Tk 1.5 lakh,” Bashir said in his police complaint.

Bashir sustained injuries as he was manhandled by the robbers when he initially tried to resist the crime. He received first aid at Companiganj Health Complex.
Officer-in-charge of Companiganj police station, Shukanto Chakrabarti, said that they had received a complaint from the victim. “Efforts are on to nab the robbers,” he said.
11 held while preparing to stage robbery in capital
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Saturday arrested 11 robbers from Boliyarpur area of Dhaka’s Savar, while they were preparing to stage a robbery.
The arrestees are Md. Shamim aka Sabdul, Md. Anisur Rahman aka Thanda, Md. Salauddin, Md. Ikhtiyar Uddin, Md. Saiful Islam, Md. Jahangir Sarkar, Md. Sajib Islam, Md. Jiban Sarkar, Shri Swapan Chandra Roy, Md. Minhazur Islam, and Shri Madhav Chandra Sarkar.
On the basis of a tip-off, Rab members conducted an operation in Boliyarpur area around 1 am and arrested the robbers while they were preparing for a robbery, said ASP Imran Khan, Assistant director, legal and media wing of the Rab headquarters.

Rab members seized different tools used in robbery from the arrestees which include a foreign made gun, a pipe gun, two one-shooter gun, six rounds of ammunition, a magazine, two machetes, three iron rods, three axes, two knives, house cutter, 11 hacksaw blades, two laser lights and a hammer.
During the interrogation, the arrestees said that they have been planning to rob a battery factory in Savar. They also said that they have long been involved in robbery of houses, shops, warehouses, even from passenger buses and freight trucks.
