Engineer Md Mahbubur Rahman has been reappointed Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) on a contract basis for one year. He took over the charge after his reappointment with effect from September 1, said a BPDB release. Mahbubur Rahman was born in Shariatpur district on  September 1, 1963. He obtained B.Sc. Engineering (Civil) degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1986. Engineering (Hydro-Power) degree from the Norwegian University of Engineering & Technology, Norway in 1995 with a full scholarship from the Norwegian government. He later obtained an MBA degree from Bangladesh. Besides, he also completed various professional courses from Oxford University of the United Kingdom, Kochi University of Japan and Melbourne Institute of Technology of Australia. Mahbubur Rahman started his career with the BPDB in 1986 as an Assistant Engineer in the organisation’s Siddhirganj Power Station. Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman was diagnosed with coronavirus on early Tuesday.   The CMP Commissioner himself confirmed the matter over phone at around 1am, saying that he tested positive but he had few symptoms of infection.   “I’m doing well even although I’m already infected,” he said. Rahman and his took coronavirus test as they were suffering from fever for the last few days.   He said his wife tested negative.   “After returning home, I’ve gone into isolation,” he said early Tuesday.   Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said he was yet to get information about the CMP Commissioner’s infection.   While performing duties, policemen and members of other law enforcement agencies have been getting infected in Bangladesh.   Until Monday morning, 6,612 policemen were infected with coronavirus across the country while performing duties.   “Among the total infected policemen, 2,823 have made full recovery until Monday morning,” said AKM Kamrul Ahsan, public relations officer of the police headquarters.   Meanwhile, 18 policemen and a civilian member of the law enforcement agency died of COVID-19 till Monday, he added.   Coronavirus situation in Bangladesh   Bangladesh confirmed its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18 but it has been seeing a sharp rise in both new cases and deaths in recent weeks.   The health authorities on Monday reported 68,504 coronavirus cases and 930 deaths in the country.   Among the total confirmed cases, 14,560 people have so far recovered.   Altogether 2,735 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the last 24 hours after testing 12,944 samples at 52 laboratories across the country as of Monday morning.   To curb the spread of the virus, Bangladesh announced a general holiday from March 26 to May 30 but public transports, government and private offices were opened on a limited scale from May 31.   Educational institutions will remain closed until June 15 while offices will remain open on limited scale for maintenance purpose.
