Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) authorities have formed a five-member probe committee after the missing of 100 oxygen cylinders and 30 cylinder meters from the Covid unit of the hospital. Headed by assistant director of SBMCH Dr Maniruzzaman, the other members of the committee are—assistant director Dr Mohammad Nazmul Hossain, Dr Mahmud Hossain, Store officer Anamika and health supervisor Selina Akter. According to the sources at the medical store, the oxygen cylinders and cylinder meters were supplied through the ward master of the corona unit and during a regular counting , the authorities detected that matter. Selina Akter, said a staffer of the hospital, has been served a show cause notice in this regard. Dr. HM Saiful Islam, director of SBMCH, said necessary action will be taken against those involved in the incident after getting the probe committee report. Of these, some were provided by the government while some were donated by different organisations to tackle the Covid situation.

Six people were detained Friday from Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, on suspicion of smuggling oxygen cylinders. A press release signed by Mainul Islam Prodhan, senior information officer of the Health Ministry, revealed the information. They contacted the responsible authorities and said that they were sent by a senior doctor named Rexaul Karim to collect oxygen cylinders, and deliver them to  some hospitals of the capital. They also added that they had documents supporting their statement. However, Abu Sayeed Khan Babu, the man in charge of  oxygen cylinders at the Rangpur hospital, immediately informed the police personnel on duty in the hospital checkpost about the situation. Acting on that lead, a team of Kotwali Police reached the area and detained the suspected oxygen cylinder smugglers following initial interrogation. They are  still under the custody of Kotwali Police as of filing this report.
