DSCC drive: Aedes larvae found at 5 buildings
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday found Aedes mosquito larvae at 5 buildings including an under-construction building of Partex Group on the first day of its combing operation launched to keep the dengue situation under control.
After visiting 30 houses and under-construction buildings, the DSCC mobile court fined Tk 28,000 in five cases after finding a favourable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding at five of them.
Led by DSCC's Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam, the drive was conducted in the capital's Dhalpur and Maniknagar areas.

Among others, Ward No. 49 Councilor Badal Sardar, Region-5 Assistant Health Officer Dr. Shihab Uddin and others were present during the drive.
Earlier, Md Mizanur Rahman, chief executive officer of DSCC, directed its officials concerned on various issues and told them to start operating mobile courts at the field level.

He said that it is a proven method to destroy the breeding sources of Aedes mosquitoes to control the dengue outbreak.
Besides, public awareness is also very important to destroy the breeding sources of Aedes mosquitoes.

"We hope that through this initiative we will be able to control the dengue disease in the area under the Dhaka South City Corporation," he added.

Dhaka city braces for Aedes mosquito menace after rains
The density of Aedes mosquitoes in the capital Dhaka is more than the previous year which may increase further during the upcoming monsoon leading to a spread of dengue.
Researchers at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) feared that rainfall in the city may be followed by an alarming rise in mosquitoes-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.
An outbreak of dengue fever last year claimed 105 lives and sent 28,429 patients to hospital, most of them in the capital city, according to DGHS

National Malaria Elimination and Aedes Transmission Disease Control Programme of DGHS, has found the dire situation in a recent survey. The 10-day entomological survey was conducted at 100 sites of 98 wards under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
According to the DGHS, a 21-member team visited around 3,000 houses under the city corporations to complete the survey. It found Aedes mosquito’s larvae in 150 houses which is 4.25 percent of the total figure.

Dengue cases cross 10,000 mark in eight months
The number of Dengue cases in Bangladesh crossed 10,000-mark this year with the hospitalization of 233 new patients in the last 24 hours until Monday morning, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).wls in Dhaka while the remaining 20 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 1,150 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning, DGHS said.
Of them, 1,004 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 146 were listed outside Dhaka.

According to DGHS, 10,090 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year and 42 among them died.
Of the deceased, 38 were from Dhaka city, two from Chattogram division and one each from Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
So far, 8,895 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, according to DGHS.
Health authorities have been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1.

Dengue claims 25 lives so far this year: DGHS
Twenty-five people died of dengue so far this year, said a report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.
Of the total deaths, 12 people died in July while the remaining 13 died in August, said a report of DGHS.
A total of 221 new patients were admitted to different hospitals in 24 hours till Monday morning, it said.

Among the new patients, 199 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
The country has been seeing over 200 dengue patients per day for the last 16 days since August 1.
The dengue outbreak has become a cause of major concern as the country is battling the deadlier Delta variant of coronavirus with its limited health care facilities for the last few months.
Some 1,032 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning, according to DGHS.
Most of the cases have been reported in the capital so far, said the health authorities.
Of them, 962 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the rest were listed outside Dhaka.

257 more dengue patients hospitalized in 24 hrs: DGHS
Amid the rise in Dengue cases, 257 new patients were admitted to different hospitals in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
Among the new patients, 219 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka.

Dengue upsurge in Bangladesh: 210 more hospitalized in 24 hrs
As many as 210 new patients were hospitalized in 24 hours until Monday morning amid a growing concern over a spike in dengue cases.
Bangladesh started seeing an uptrend in dengue cases from June with the advent of monsoon. Since August 1, the country has been seeing over 200 dengue cases every day.
Of the new dengue cases, 181 were reported in Dhaka while the remaining 29 from outside the division, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the (DGHS), 931 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country. Of them, 863 patients were reported to be admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest in other divisions.
Some 4,753 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January and 3,808 of them have been released after they recovered.
DGHS spokesperson Prof Nazmul Islam told UNB that there is a possibility that the number of dengue cases will rise further in August due to suitable breeding conditions. “Aedes mosquito breeding increases in stagnant water due to heavy rains in August,” he said.
So far, 14 suspected deaths caused by dengue were reported to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) but none of them had been reviewed and confirmed yet, said the DGHS.

According to official statistics, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh in 2019, the worst the country has ever experienced.
About 50,974 people were infected with dengue in August 2019 though only 50,166 dengue cases were recorded in the previous 18 years from 2000 to 2018.
If the similar scenario repeats, the health system, which is already on the brink, might completely collapse and create a catastrophic situation in the country in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, experts warned.

Dengue surge in Bangladesh: 204 more hospitalized in 24 hrs
As the number of Dengue cases keep rising in Bangladesh, 204 new patients were hospitalized in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
Since August 1, the country has been seeing over 200 dengue cases every day adding worries to the already overburdened health sector with Covid-19 patients.
Of the new dengue cases, 194 were reported in Dhaka while the rest from outside the division, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the (DGHS), 997 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country. Of them, 958 patients were reported to be admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rests in other divisions.

Worsening Dengue: 237 patients hospitalised in 24 hrs
Amid a concerning spike of Aedes mosquito-borne disease, 237 new dengue cases were reported across the country by the health authorities on Sunday morning.
The outbreak of dengue fever with more than 100 dengue patients reported daily for more than a week has sparked new worries as the country’s health services are already overburdened with increasing Covid cases and fatalities.
Of the new dengue cases, 218 were reported in Dhaka while 19 were from outside the capital, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the (DGHS), 862 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country.
A vast majority of the dengue patients are from Dhaka as only 34 of them were reported being treated in hospitals outside the capital.
Some 2,895 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January and 2,029 of them have been released after they recovered.
The DGHS reported 1,193 dengue cases and three confirmed dengue-related deaths in 2020.
According to official statistics, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh in 2019.

DSCC realises over Tk 1 lakh in fines from 7 buildings, finding Aedes larvae in most of them
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Monday found Aedes mosquito larvae in seven houses and under construction buildings during a drive.
After visiting 87 houses and under-construction buildings, ten DSCC mobile court teams fined Tk 1,09500 in seven cases after finding a favourable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding at five of them.
The drive was led by Executive Magistrate Md Haidar Ali, Md Mamun Mia, Md Hasnat Morshed Bhuiyan, Shahin Reza, Md Alamgir Hossain and four of the newly posted executive magistrates in city’s KP Ghosh street, Janatabagh, Raisnagar, Gendaria, Nadipara, and Khilgaon areas.
The magistrates said from next day ten zones under DSCC, ten mobile courts will conduct drives simultaneously to destroy mosquito habitats.

The anti-mosquito drives are being conducted amid a rise in the number of dengue patients with authorities reporting 123 new cases in 24 hours until Monday morning.
For three consecutive days, over 100 patients have been diagnosed with dengue every day adding worries to the country’s health services, already overburdened with growing Covid cases and fatalities.
