Gold worth at least Tk 4 crore stolen from Karnaphuli Garden City shops
At least 700 bhori gold in ornaments was stolen from two jewelleries in Karnaphuli Garden City in the capital's Kakrail.
The incident only came to light on Saturday morning when employees showed up for work and found the locks were broken. The thieves had enjoyed a free run while the shops were closed.
Officer-in-Charge Md Monirul Islam of Ramna model police station told UNB that the theft targeted two shops - Best and Best Jewellers and Mohana Jewellers, on the fourth floor of the shopping mall.
"So far I know, at least 700 bhori gold ornaments were stolen from the two shops. The quantity of stolen gold ornaments might increase as counting continued," the OC said.

One bhori, a unit of measurement for bullion used in South Asia, equals 11.66 grams. According to Gold Prices Dubai live prices, as of today the price of gold in Bangladesh is Tk 4900 per gram. The price of the 700 bhori comes close to Tk 4 crore.
The owners claimed that the thieves broke the lock and took away gold and money. However, they are still calculating the amount taken.
A police officer not authorised to speak to the media said an investigation was underway and CCTV footage of the mall was being collected, including a list of employees and nightwatchmen for scrutiny.

Several people were taken into police custody on Saturday for interrogation, the Officer said requesting anonymity.
Maradona's stolen watch recovered in India
Believe it or not, Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona's stolen limited edition Hublot wrist watch has been recovered by police in India.
The watch worth around two million Indian rupees that was stolen from Dubai was, in fact, found in the possession of a resident in the northeastern state of Assam this morning. The accused recently returned to India from Dubai, where he worked.
State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the recovery.

"In an act of international cooperation @assampolice has coordinated with @dubaipoliceHQ through Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage @Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Late Diego Maradona and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow up lawful action is being taken," he tweeted.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of football, Maradona was popular as "The Golden Boy" of the sport. Maradona who played in four FIFA World Cup died in November last year.

Valuables stolen from UNB Bagerhat Corr house
Thieves stole valuables from the house of the UNB Bagerhat district correspondent at Shaltala in Bagerhat district town early Monday.
The thieves entered the house of Bishnu Proshad Chakrabortty between 5:30 am and 6:30 am and stolen the mobile phone, four ATM cards, driving licence and wallet of the correspondent, said KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model Police Station.
On information, police and Rab visited the spot and they are investigating the theft, he said.
Computer hardware worth Tk 8.19 lakh stolen from Manikganj DYD
Computer hardware worth Tk 8.19 lakh has been stolen from the computer lab and trainer's room at Manikganj district Department of Youth Development (DYD).
Processors and RAMs of 39 computers were stolen Friday night from the fourth floor of the company's district office in Ghior upazila.
Alka Prabha Dey, deputy director of Manikganj DYD, said Friday and Saturday were public holidays. “Sunday, I came to the office and found that 39 computer processors and RAMs had been stolen from two rooms.”

Ghior Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Riaz Uddin Ahmed Biplob said there was no night guard or watchman in the office. A helper cum guard was there that night, but he could not say anything about it as he was asleep.
Legal action will be taken after investigation, he said.
