Bangladesh, Canada discuss cooperation to curb fraud, irregular migration
Bangladesh and Canada on Wednesday discussed shared priorities including strengthening cooperation to prevent fraud and irregular migration to enable legitimate migration as well as finding a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding partnership.
PM wants to build ‘a better Bangladesh’, not another Singapore or Canada
The meeting focused on building on more than five decades of Bangladesh-Canada friendship by advancing mutual prosperity that has included over $6.3 billion in development assistance from Canada including over $600 million for the Rohingya crisis since 2017.
With two-way trade having reached over $4 billion in 2025, both sides discussed how to expand the commercial relationship to unlock benefits for people in both our countries, said the Canadian High Commission.
The discussion focused on deepening and diversifying trade and investment, notably in agriculture, energy, AI, education, TVET, civil aviation, security and defence.
High Commissioner Singh once again congratulated Foreign Minister Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
He reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to working closely with him during his tenure to advance UN reforms and build a better future for people in all our countries.
