Two women die of electrocution in two upazilas of Chandpur
Two women, including a five-month pregnant housewife, died in separate electrocution incidents in Hajiganj and Matlab South upazilas of Chandpur on Friday.
The deceased were Sumaiya Akter (22), wife of auto-rickshaw driver Sharif Hossain Munshi, who died after being electrocuted at Kuruli Munshi Bari in Barakul West Union around noon, and schoolgirl Istrat Jahan Ima,15, resident of Naogaon village under Upadhi North Union in Matlab South upazila.
Locals said Sumaiya was charging her husband’s battery-run auto-rickshaw when she suddenly came into contact with live electricity and was critically injured. She fell to the ground after receiving the shock. Hearing her screams, family members rushed her to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Hajiganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeem said the body was taken into police custody.
The deceased’s husband Sharif Hossain said his wife was five months pregnant.
Md Abdul Jabbar, Officer-in-Charge(OC) of Hajiganj Police Station, said the body was handed over without post-mortem following a written request as there was no complaint from the family.
On the other hand, Naogaon School headteacher Shibir Ahmed said Ima was a class VII student and a meritorious pupil. Her mother Ruma Akter works abroad, while her father works in Chattogram. She used to live at her maternal grandfather’s house for studies.
Police and family sources said that at noon, on the request of her grandfather Tajul Islam, Ima climbed onto the roof using a ladder to clean accumulated leaves. At that time, she came into contact with a live electric wire passing over the roof, which had earlier become electrified due to a damaged wire. Unaware of the danger, she fell to the ground after a severe electric shock and sustained critical injuries.
She was rushed to Matlab Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor Arif Hossain declared her dead.
Hafizur Rahman Manik, Matlab South Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said an unnatural death case has been filed and the body was sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Shop employee electrocuted on Dhaka’s waterlogged road
A-30-year-old shop employee died apparently from electrocution on Monday morning while crossing a waterlogged road amid heavy rain near Najira Bazar intersection at Bangshal in Old Dhaka.
The deceased was Md. Amin, son of Badsha Mia of Teli Sani village in Bhandaria Upazila of Pirojpur, is. He used to reside near BDR Gate-1 area in the capital.
Amin was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in unconscious state around 9:45 am where doctors declared him dead, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp.
Madrasa student, 8, dies from electrocution in Gazaria, Munshiganj
Jisan, a passerby who helped bring Amin to DMCH, said Amin lost consciousness after coming in contact with electrified water while riding his bicycle through the rainwater.
Even light rainfall in old Dhaka often causes waterlogging in Najira Bazar area, he said.
Local people used a bamboo pole to pull him from a distance and rushed him to the hospital.
Md Faruk said the body has been kept in the morgue and the matter has been reported to Bangshal Police Station.

Woman dies from electrocution in Kurigram
A housewife died from electrocution in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Zarina Begum, 40, wife of Safar Uddin of West Chat Gopalpur village under Bhurungamari upazila.
Tilai Union Parishad Chairman Kamruzzaman said she got electrocuted when she touched the auto-rickshaw purchased by her neighbour Ariful Islam. The vehicle was left charging overnight.
Woman dies from electrocution in Kushtia
She was immediately taken to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.
Al Helal Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Bhurungamari police station said police were sent to the scene.
A UD case will be filed in this regard.

Two die from electrocution in Chandpur
Two men died after being electrocuted in Chandpur town’s Puran Bazar area on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Md Montu Dhali, 70, son of late Abdul Dhali, and Md Anwar Hossain Khan, 55, son of Amin Khan – both residents of the West Jafarabad village.
Quoting locals, Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Md Bahar Mia said that the house became electrified due to an earthing issue. Anwar was electrocuted when he touched the tin wall of the house while trying to step outside and screamed for help. Montu Dhali was electrocuted when tried to rescue him.
3 killed by lightning strikes in Chapainawabganj
Locals said both victims were rushed to Chandpur General Hospital, where the on-duty Residential Medical Officer (RMO), Dr Asibul Ahsan, declared them dead upon arrival.
“No complaints were filed by the victims' families. Two separate unnatural death cases have been registered at the police station,” he said.
The bodies were handed over to the families, added the OC.

Electrician dies from electrocution in Old Dhaka
An electrician died after suffering an electric shock in the capital’s Nimtola area on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mozammel Hossain, 35, an electrician who used to work in Orion Company and son of Abdur Kader Khan of Mymensingh sadar upazila.
Mozammel got electrocuted while working on an electric line using a ladder around 10:40am under the Nimtola flyover .
Korban Ali, a co-worker who witnessed the incident, rescued him and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 11:20 am where doctors declared him dead.

3 people die from electrocution in Gaibandha
Three people including two members of a family died from electrocution in Shaghata upazila in Gaibandha district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Abdal Hossain, Milon Mia and Mosharraf Hossain.
Quoting witnesses, Badsha Alam, officer-in-charge of Shaghata Police Station, said Milon Mia of Kamaler Para village came in contact with a live electric wire, which,went over the tin-shed roof of his house while he was engaged in removing dry leaves from the roof in the afternoon.
Youth dies from electrocution in Sylhet
Hearing screams of Milon, his uncle Abdal tried to save him, but he too got electrocuted.
Another person Mosharraf also tried to save them but unfortunately, he also got electrocuted.
On information, police recovered the bodies, said Md Al Kama tomal, Shaghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).

Construction worker dies of electrocution in the city
A construction worker in the city's Bhasantek area was electrocuted to death on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Md Maruf, 25, a resident of Chunia Kandi village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

The incident occurred around noon when Maruf went to connect an electrical line in the first floor of a multi-storied building he was working at under a developer company, said his co-worker Md Aftab.
Maruf’s co-workers rescued him in an unconscious condition and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors announced him dead, said Bacchu Mia, in-charge Inspector of DMCH police outpost.

2 die from electrocution in the city
Two people died and another two were injured from electrocution in the city’s Satarkul area of North Badda area on Sunday afternoon, family said.
The deceased were identified as Ariful Islam Sohel, 32, a welding mechanic and Jahangir Alam, 32, his assistant.

Sohel, along with Jahangir, was workimg in his newly built enterprise Maa Engineering Workshop Grill and Welding in Satarkul area when the accident occurred, his family said.
Another two workers Ahad and Miraj were injured in the incident.

Sohel and Alam were first taken to a nearby hospital and later to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared both of them dead.

Khadem of a Dhanmandi mosque dies from electrocution
Atiqul Islam, the khadem of Eidgah Mosque at Dhanmandi-6 died from electrocution on Wednesday, police said.
Atiqul hailed from IItna upazila in Kishoreganj district.

The incident took place at around 11: 00 am when Atiqul was mowing the mosque’s field by an electric machine, said Abdul Jalil, a worker of the mosque.
Accidentally, Atiqul a live wire of the machine and fell down unconscious, Jalil added.

Schoolboy electrocuted in Sylhet
A tenth-grader was electrocuted in Sylhet city Friday.
The deceased Shahirul Haque Chowdhury, 15, was from the Ghurni residential area.
The schoolboy's family members said he came in contact with a live electric wire while changing an IPS line, after which they found him unconscious.

Shahirul was declared dead after being rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Airport Police Station (Sylhet metropolitan) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mainul Zakir told UNB.
