Photojournalist Kajol indicted in 3 DSA cases
The cyber tribunal in Dhaka on Monday framed charges against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in three cases filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal fixed January 2 for the formal trial to begin with the deposition of witnesses.
Journalist Kajal, now on bail, pleaded innocence and demanded justice.

Earlier, the hearing on charge framing in the cases was scheduled to be held on October 21. As the judge of the tribunal Ash Sams Joglul Hossain was on leave, acting judge Iqbal Hossain fixed November 8 for the hearing.
Kajol went missing on March 10, 2020, a day after Magura-1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed a case against him and 31 others, including Manab Zamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury.
They were sued under the DSA for publishing and sharing an article on social media about expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia.
Two other cases were filed against Kajol at Kamrangir Char and Hazaribagh police stations under the same act on March 10 and 11 last year.
After his 53 days of disappearance, Kajol was detained by Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) near the Benapole border on May 3,2020 and produced in a Jashore court on the same day.

Although the court granted him bail in the case, he was sent to jail as Kotwali police brought another charge against him under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On October 19, 2020, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to explain why photojournalist Kajol should not be granted bail in the case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
On November 24, 2020, the photojournalist secured bail in another case filed against him under the DSA.
On December 17, that year, the High Court granted him bail in two cases filed under the DSA, clearing the way for his release.
He was freed from Dhaka Central Jail on December 25 last year.

Court takes cognizance of charges against photojournalist Kajol
A cyber tribunal in Dhaka on Tuesday accepted charges against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal relieved 31 others from the charges after a hearing, and fixed October 20 for framing charges against Kajol in the case.
Already enjoying bail from the High Court, the tribunal also granted him bail in the case.

On April 4, the case against Kajol was shifted to the Cyber Tribunal.
Investigating officer Md Rassel Mollah submitted the charge-sheet on March 14.
Jubo Mohila League central leader Sumaiya Chowdhury Bonnya filed the case on March 11 last year accusing Kajol of writing defamatory remarks on various MPs on his Facebook profile.
He was freed from the Dhaka Central Jail on December 25 last year.
On December 17, the High Court granted him bail in two cases filed under the DSA, clearing the way for his release.

On November 24 that year, the photojournalist secured bail in another case filed against him under the DSA.

Digital Security Act: Charges pressed against Kajol
A Dhaka court on Wednesday took the charges into cognisance in a case filed against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with Hazaribagh Police Station.
Cyber Tribunal Judge Mohammad Jaglul Hossain took the charges into cognisance and fixed April 22 for framing the charges.
The chargesheet was submitted at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on February 4, said Kajol’s lawyer Jahidur Rahman.
Usmi Ara Beli, Jubo Mohila League central member filed the case on March 10, 2020.
Earlier on December 25, last year Kajol was freed from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

On December 17, the High Court granted bail to Kajol in two cases filed under the Digital Security Act, clearing the way for his release.
On November 24, last year, the journalist secured bail in another case filed against him under the same act.
The journalist had gone missing on March 10, 2020, a day after Magura 1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed a case against him and 30 others, including Manabzamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury.
They were sued under the Digital Security Act over publishing and sharing of an article on social media about expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia.

Also, two other cases were filed against Kajol with Kamrangir Char and Hazaribagh police stations under the same act on March 10 and March 11.
On May 3, Kajol had been shown as detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along the Benapole border after 53-days of his disappearance and was produced before a Jashore court, which sent him to jail.
The journalist remained in jail since then.

At last, path cleared by HC for photojournalist Kajol’s release
The High Court on Thursday granted bail to photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in two cases filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA), clearing the way for his release.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order.
With the court order, there is no bar for Kajol’s release now, said his counsel Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua .
Deputy Attorney General Mohamamd Sarwar Hossain represented the state.
The journalist had gone missing on March 10, a day after one case was filed by Awami League's Magura-1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor.
