Death of siblings after ‘pesticide poisoning’: MD, chairman of pest control company arrested
Detectives in a drive arrested the managing director (MD) and chairman of a pest control company that worked at the home of a family in Dhaka's Bashundhara -- following which the family fell sick and two siblings died while undergoing treatment.
The MD and chairman of the pest control company were arrested today (June 8, 2023) from Tangail and Brahmanbaria districts.
The arrestees were identified as Ashraf, chairman of the company, and Farhad, its MD.

Based on a tip-off, a team of DB from Lalbagh division conducted drives in Tangail and Brahmanbaria, and arrested the duo, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Lalbagh DB Police, said.
They are now on their way to Dhaka, he said.
On June 4, Shayan Mobarrat Zahin (15) and Shahir Mobarrat Zayan (9) -- fell sick after pesticide was used at their home in Dhaka's Bashundhara. Mobarak Hossain, father of the children, hired DCS Organisation Ltd for pest control.

Police and the children’s family said the pest control service sprayed insecticide at their new home in Bashundhara’s Block I on June 2. The family members left the house after the insecticide was used.
On June 4, the family returned to the house and fell sick after inhaling the pesticide, and they were rushed to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, they said.
On June 5, Mobarak Hossain filed a case in this connection.

Nafiz Alam, who appeared in DW documentary, arrested from Dhaka’s Bashundhara
Police on Sunday (April 09, 2023) night arrested Nafiz Mohammad Alam, who was interviewed in a recent Deutsche Welle (DW) documentary on RAB, from his home in Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka.
Officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station Asaduzzaman told UNB that police arrested Nafiz in a case filed under the pornography act.
Tipped off, a team of Bhatara police carried out a raid at Nafiz's residence in G block of Bashundhara Housing on Sunday evening.

Foreign alcohol, one laptop, one motorcycle and a mobile phone were seized during the raid.
Sub-inspector Riyad Ahmed of Bhatara Police Station filed a case against Nafiz with the police station under the Narcotics Control Act, said the OC.
He also said Nafiz was accused in three cases and there was an arrest warrant against him filed with the police station under the pornography act.

Replying to a question, the OC said that Nafiz has been produced before a Dhaka court.

BPL Football: Bashundhara take unbeaten run to nine matches beating Sheikh Jamal 3-0
Defending champions Bashundhara Kings earned their ninth straight win in the eleven-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, beating Sheikh Jamal 3-0 Saturday at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in the capital.
Runaway league leader Bashundhara secured 27 points. Second-placed Dhaka Abahani earned 18 points from eight matches.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club remained in the fifth slot with 12 points from eight matches.

In today's match, Uzbek midfielder Asror Gafurov put the Kings ahead in the 37th minute (1-0). Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes netted two more goals in the 60th and 74 (3-0).
In the day's other match, Rahmatganj Muslim Friend Society beat Chittagong Abahani 1-0 at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
After a barren first, Mohammad Enamul scored the winner for Old Dhaka club Rahmatganj MFS in the 79th minute (1-0).
Rahmatganj MFS advanced to the eighth spot in the league table, securing eight points from as many matches. Chittagong Abahani remained in 10th place with four points from eight matches.

Bashundhara lift BPL title for 3rd time in a row beating Saif
Bashundhara Kings stormed past Saif Sporting 2-0 to lift their third Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title in a row winning a fierce encounter at Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj Monday.
Before Monday's match, the Kings earned 49 points in 19 matches. They need just one win in their remaining three matches against Saif today, Dhaka Abahani on July 24 and Sheikh Jamal on July 30 to lift the title for the third time in a row after Dhaka Abahani.
The Sky Blue Brigade clinched the BPL title for a record six times, including three times in a row.
Soon after the final whistle, the players and officials of the Kings started celebrating on the field on the field wearing champions' jerseys.
In the day's match, midfielder Motin Mia put the Kings into the lead in the 29th minute (1-0).
The Kings were down to 10 men in the 37th minute as their defender Yeasin Arafat received a red card.

Super sub Biplo Ahmed, who replaced Motin Mia, netted the second goal for the Kings in the 81st minute (2-0).
This was the second consecutive victory for the Kings against Saif. They beat Saif 4-3 in the first phase.
The Kings were crowned champions after securing 51 points from 20 matches with 16 wins, three draws and one loss.
Independence Cup and Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani secured 41 points from 19 matches, 10 points behind the league leader Kings.
The Kings will play the remaining two league matches against Dhaka Abahani on July 24 and Sheikh Jamal DC on July 30, the results of which will not affect their place in the points table.

Bashundhara one win away from BPL title
Defending champions Bashundhara Kings are one victory away from clinching the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football.
The Kings will be crowned champions if they beat Saif Sporting at the Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj at 4pm Monday. They beat Saif 4-3 in the first phase.

3-day motor show begins in Dhaka
A three-day motor show began in Dhaka Thursday after a break of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the organisers and participants of the 15th Dhaka Motor Show 2022 at the International Convention City Bashundhara, prominent distributors, assemblers and manufacturers of local and international motor vehicle brands are displaying their new cars and other vehicles there.
Motorcycles of different local and international brands are also being showcased at the exhibition. Different lubricant companies have joined it too.

Toyota, Hyundai, Mercedes, Range Rover, Mitsuoka, and Proton have participated in the exhibition with their cars, sports utility vehicles, multi-utility vehicles, commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, and three-wheelers, alternative energy-driven vehicles including battery-operated vehicles.
The participants at the exhibition said in addition to general visitors, their target visitors are vehicle distributors, importers, auto component distributors and dealers, tire and wheel dealers, auto spare parts dealers, garage owners, lubricant dealers, service centres, truck parts dealers, mechanics, and spare parts retailers.

AFC Cup: Bashundhara beat Maldives' Maziya 1-0 to get off to winning start
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings got off to a winning start in the Group D of the AFC Cup Football 2022 after a 1-0 victory against Maldives' Maziya Sports and Recreation Club at Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata Wednesday.
This was the second consecutive win for the Kings against Maziya in the AFC Cup after their 2-0 win against the Maldivian champions in Male last year.
Gambian striker Nuha Marong scored the winning goal for the Kings in the 33rd minute with a good header (1-0).
Earlier, Ibrahim of the Kings managed a good chance in the 11th minute to put his side in the lead when a shot of Brazilian playmaker Robson Robinho came his way hitting the bar, but he sent the ball wide.
The last two times BPL champions Kings, who were placed in Group D of the AFC Cup, will face ATK Mohun Bagan on May 21 and Gokulam Kerala FC on May 24 in their remaining group matches.
In the day's first match, I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC beat Kolkata's Mohun Bagan 4-2 at the same venue in the afternoon.

Earlier on Thursday, the King's made the debut memorial at their newly constructed home ground, Bashundhara Sports Complex, the country's first privately- owned football ground, to take solo lead in the league outplaying Police FC by 3-0 goals.
With day's feat, Bashubdhara Kings, which were deprived of the season's first two trophies--independence Cup and Federation Cup, smartly stay in the ongiong league race securing 12 points from five matches, depite losing the opening match to newcomer Swadhinata KS 0-1
Six times champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd followed them neck and neck with unbeaten run securing 10 points from four matches, playing one match less than the King's while Rahmstganj remained at 11th slot with one point from five matches.
In the day's match, Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba, an well known figure in Dhaka league, put the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj ahead in the 28th minute, silenching big budgeted Kings fans (1-0).
But the Brazilian striker cum Kings captain Robson Robinho leveled margin in the 32nd minute with the relieve of their" all red " fans (1-1)
Medio Mohammad Ibrahim put the King's ahead from behind scoring the 2nd goal in the 44th minute, off a Robinho long pass (2-1),
But their leading was very short lived as Rahmatganj striker Sunday Chizoba neutralised the margin again from a penalty in the stoppage of the first half (45+2 minute) to lock the first half (2-2).
Sunday Chizoba of Rahmatganj came close to make a hattrck but he spoiled the chance depriving his team from a goal.
Finally, defender Yeasin Arafat saved the King's from danger scoring the natch-winner in the 76th minute by a good header, off a corner kick of captain Robson Robonho (3-2).
Two traditional rivals Dhaka Abahani Ltd and Dhaka Mohammedan SC will play each other on Wednesday at Sylhet District Stadium.

Women's Football: Bashundhara crush Cumilla 9-0
Bashundhara Kings maintain a 100% win record in the Women's Football League 2020-21, crushing Cumilla United 9-0 at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium Monday.
With the day's victory, star-studded Kings topped the league table securing 15 points from five straight matches.
Shamsunnahar Junior netted a hat-trick, Tohura Khatun and Sabina Khatun scored two goals each while Krishna Rani Sarkar and Ritu Porna scored one each for the winners.

In the day's other match, Nasrin Sports Academy played out a 2-2 draw with FC Brahmanbaria at the same venue in the afternoon.
