Feni’s Muhuri, Selonia rivers still above danger level; floodwaters likely to recede
The Muhuri and Selonia rivers in Feni district are still flowing above danger levels, with the situation expected to improve if the floodwaters gradually recede.
Over the next 24 hours, the water levels of these rivers are likely to remain steady and the flood situation in Feni district may remain stable, according to the latest forecast from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
However, fourteen villages in Feni's Fulgazi upazila went under underwater, according to the local administration.
Fulgazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fariha Islam said, “Flood control dams have broken in at least seven places in the upazila. As a result, 14 villages have gone underwater.”
More than 150 people took shelter in shelters, dry food and cooked food were arranged for them, she said.
Meanwhile, continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days submerged the Feni-Parshuram road, severing direct road communication with Fulgazi, Parshuram.
Commuters are now forced to use the Chhagalnaiya-Khandalhai road where limited transport and high fares were causing widespread suffering.

Many were seen risking their lives by travelling in pickup trucks to reach Feni town for urgent needs.
Despite a slight fall in the water level of the Muhuri River, the flood situation in Feni continues to deteriorate, according to local officials.
Abul Kashem, sub-divisional engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) in Feni, said the river was still flowing 77 centimetres above the danger level on Wednesday.

“Although the water level has slightly decreased compared to yesterday, several villages in Parshuram and Phulgazi upazilas have been inundated due to breaches in embankments,” he said.

The risk of flood has increased in various regions of the country due to rising water levels in several rivers following heavy rainfall.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), the Surma, Kushiyara, Manu, Dhalai, Jadukata, and Someshwari rivers are swelling due to moderate to heavy rainfall in the Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.
Flashfloods likely in low-lying areas of 6 divisions: FFWC
Low-lying areas in Sunamganj, Netrokona, and Moulvibazar districts are facing risk of being affected by flash floods.
In the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river basin, water levels are rising at multiple points, with possibility of further rise in next 5 days.
However, water levels remain below the danger mark in all these areas.
In the Surma-Kushiyara river basin, water levels of rivers are continuing to rise due to ongoing rainfall and may keep increasing for the next two days.
However, a decline is expected afterward, and water is likely to remain below danger levels.
In the Rangpur division, water levels of the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers are also increasing due to rainfall over the past three days.
While the rivers are swelling, water levels remain below danger marks.
Over the next 24 hours, water levels in rivers of the Chattogram division—including Halda, Muhuri, Feni, Sangu, and Matamuhuri—are expected to remain stable, but a fall is likely within the following two days.

Meanwhile, the water levels of the Ganges-Padma rivers are showing a declining trend.
However, the situation could reverse as rainfall is forecast to increase over the next five days.

Flashfloods likely in low-lying areas of 6 divisions: FFWC
Persistent rainfall in different parts of the country has triggered risk of flashfloods as major rivers in several divisions may swell, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) warned on Wednesday.
The water levels of several rivers in Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Barishal, and Khulna divisions are expected to rise over the next few days, it said.
In the next two days, water levels of the rivers of Chattogram including the Halda, Muhuri, and Feni are likely to rise.

The Muhuri River may cross the danger level during this period that may cause flashfloods in the low-lying areas adjacent to the Muhuri River in Feni district.
The FFWC also forecasts a fall in water levels of these rivers after the next one day.
Besides, in Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, rivers including the Surma, Jadukata, Manu, Dhalai, Khowai, and Kushiyara are likely to see rising water levels over the next three days.

Some of these rivers may cross danger levels which could trigger flashfloods in low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrokona districts.
In Rangpur division, Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers are also expected to rise in the next three days, with the Teesta possibly nearing the danger level.
Tidal water in the coastal rivers of Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions may remain higher than normal over the next two days commencing on Thursday, the FFWC added.
Though the water levels of the Surma and Kushiyara rivers are decreasing, they are expected to rise again over the next three days. However, they are likely to remain below danger levels.

Heavy rains may trigger short-term flood in Sylhet, Sunamganj
North-Eastern and adjoining upstream region of the country may experience short-term flood due to heavy rainfall in 48 hours since Sunday (July 02, 2023) morning, said a bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Some rivers of this region including Surma, Old Surma, Sarigowain, Khowai, Jadukata, Someswari, Bhogai-Kangsha may rise rapidly and cause short-term flood in the adjoining low-lying areas as there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region during the period, it said.
The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Padma rivers are in steady state, while the Ganges River is in rising trend, which may continue in next 48 hours.

All the major rivers in the North-Eastern region of the country are in rising trend.

Teesta river may cross danger level at Dalia point in the next 24 hours, said FFWC.

Parts of Bangladesh brace for worsening floods: FFWC
The overall flood situation in parts of the country may worsen further as the water levels in the Jamuna and Brahmaputra Rivers keep rising, said the Flood Forecasting Warning Centre (FFWC) of Bangladesh Water Development Board.
According to a FFWC bulletin released on Friday, the situation is likely to worsen further in Kurigram, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur and Chandpur districts.
