Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi being observed in the country
The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the day of birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is being observed across the country today with due religious solemnity.
On this day in 570, 12th of Rabiul Awwal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages to the people of the country and Muslims across the world.

The day was a public holiday.
Different government and non-government organisations, including the Islamic Foundation, have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.

Meanwhile, in Chattogram, a ‘Jashne Julus’ arranged by the Anjuman-e Rahmaniya Ahmadiyya Sunnia Trust was brought out from Jameya Ahmedia Sunnia Madrasa ground in Sholosohor area in the morning.

Bangladesh-India trade through Hili land port suspended for Eid-e-Miladunnabi
Export and import activities between Bangladesh and India remained suspended since this morning due to Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The trade activities between the two countries remained suspended since morning as there is a national holiday in the Bangladesh side, said Harun-or-Rashid, president of Hili Land Port Export-Import group.

The trade activities will resume on Saturday as Friday is a holiday.
However, the immigration activities are going on as usual, said in-charge of Hili Immigration Check-post, Sheikh Ashraf.

Speakers at a conference on Sunday underlined the need to establish the ideology of Prophet Mohammed (SM) in every sphere of life.They termed Prophet Mohammed (SM) as the best man ever, saying that those who could fall in his love are the real believers.Bangladesh Ashikane Awlia Parishad organised the Rahmatullil Alamin Conference at Jatiya Press Club to mark the Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of prophet.Founder president of the organisation and Pir of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif Alhaj Syed Shah Sufi Belal Noori Al Sureshwari presided over the conference while nuclear scientist Prof Dr M Shamsher Ali spoke in the function as the chief guest.Moderated by senior vice president of Ashikane Awlia Parishad and Sazzadanshin of Sureswar Darbar Sharif Syed Shah Sufi Muktadir Al Noori, the conference was addressed by vice chancellor of Bangladesh University Prof Dr Anisuzzaman, former education secretary Nazrul Islam Khan, former chairman of Madrasha Education Board Prof Dr Md Abu Bakar Siddique, director of Bangla Academy Mufti Dr Md Harun Or Rashid and founder president of Worldwide Human Rights Foundation Prof Dr Emdadul Haque Khan addressed the function as the special guests.

Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Shamsher Mobin said Muslims are not communal and cannot be communal.He mentioned that the Holy Quran is the book of guidance for the entire mankind and the Prophet (SM) is the mercy of the whole world.Pir of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif Alhaj Syed Shah Sufi Belal Noori Al Sureshwari said, "Love and affection for the Prophet is true faith. Those who love the Prophet are true Muslims."He said that some scholars are reluctant to observe the Eid-e-Miladunnabi (SM) and claim that Miladunnabi did not exist during the era of the Prophet (SM) and his companions (sahabas) - this is not correct. Rather, prophet Mohammed (SM) celebrated the day by fasting.

3km-tailback at Daulatdia as holidaymakers rush back
The long weekend on the back of last week's Puja holiday has now sparked a 3-km long tailback at Goalondo’s Daulatdia ferry terminal on Sunday evening, as hundreds of vehicles with holidaymakers kept waiting to cross the river on their way back home.
The long line of slow-moving vehicles crossed Daulatdia canal ghat area on Dhaka-Khulna highway, as some of the passengers complained about being stuck for more than three hours in the afternoon.
The pressure of Dhaka-bound vehicles at Daulatdia point was compounded from Sunday noon with the addition of a large number of Muslim devotees heading toward Faridpur’s Atrashi Darbar Sharif for Eid-e-Miladunnabi, said Firoz Ahmmed, terminal supervisor of Lalon Paribahan bus service from Kushtia.
Many of the passengers told the UNB reporter they were heading towards Dhaka to join their workstations after the Durga Puja Holiday.
Alamin Sheikh, a bus passenger returning to Atroshi from Faridpur, said that he was a part of a team loaded in three buses from Gazipur on Saturday night to observe Eid Miladunnabi at Atorshi.

“I started to return to Gazipur at Sunday noon and remained stuck here since then,” he said.
At least 180 such vehicles returning from Atroshi also remained stuck in the long traffic.
There are 16 small and big ferries on the Daulatdia-Paturia route but only 10 of them are operational and rest are kept in the floating factory at Paturia as there was a lack of traffic after inauguration of Padma Bridge, said Md. Salah Uddin, Daulatdia office manager, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA)
Amid the increased pressure of vehicles due to holiday and Eid-e-Miladunnabi from Sunday afternoon, we may make all the 16 ferries operational if necessary, he said.

President participates in Eid-e-Miladunnabi programs at Bangabhaban
A special prayer and Milad mahfil was organized at Bangabhaban Durbar Hall on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
President Abdul Hamid participated in doa and milad mahfil.
Before the Milad Mahfil, Cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam spoke about the importance and significance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi and the life and work of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
State Minister for Religion Faridul Haque Khan, Member of Parliament Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, members of the President's family, Acting Chiefs of the three Armed Forces, secretaries of the President and military and civil servants of Bangabhaban took part in the ceremony.

After the Milad, a special prayer was offered in the court of Allah, wishing for the peace and prosperity of the country, the welfare of the people, and the greater unity of the Muslim Ummah.

The President in his message said the Prophet's teachings in religious and worldly life are for all mankind to follow. ”May the life and philosophy of the Prophet (PBUH) enlighten all our lives, may it guide our journeys,” he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hsaina said, “I believe that peace, justice and welfare of the world can be ensured only through following the unique lifestyle of the Prophet (PBUH), his universal teachings and Sunnah in today's conflict-stricken world with the Coronavirus pandemic.”
She urged all to follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The day was a public holiday.
Different government and non-government organisations, including the Islamic Foundation (IF), have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
The Islamic Foundation’s a fortnight-long special programme marking the day, includes delivering sermons on the life and works of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) after Maghrib and Isha prayers every day, recitation from the holy Quran, singing of Islamic songs, recitation of poems and organising seminars jointly with Bangladesh Betar.
Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Radio will broadcast special programmes highlighting the importance of the day.

Glory resonates as JPC going to step into 68
The Jatiya Press Club (JPC), the house of journalists, is going to step into its 68 years on Wednesday with a glorious history.
After a hiatus of one year caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the JPC passionately called as the ‘Second Home’ by its members, has been celebrating the big moment with various programmes since October 6 maintaining health safety protocols.
A mini-marathon programme with the participation of the club members will be held in the early morning on Wednesday while the cultural function and annual dinner will be held on Friday as the 67th founding anniversary day of the club coincides with the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
The Jatiya Press Club started its journey in Dhaka on October 20, 1954. Besides being a meeting place for journalists, it provides a forum for political, social and cultural groups and individuals for holding press briefings and seminars.

On the occasion of its anniversary, JPC president Farida Yasmin said they could not arrange elaborate programmes to celebrate the 66th founding anniversary of the club due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have had a miserable time over the last two years due to the pandemic. Our children have gotten fed up with staying indoors for a long time. The children and spouses of our members have been eagerly waiting to join the founding anniversary programmes. As the Covid situation is relatively better, we’ve decided to mark the event this time with various programmes,” she said.
Farida said they want to turn the JPC into a more dignified institution so that it can help the journalists enhance their professional skills.
Earlier on October 4, JPC joint general secretary Mainul Alam announced a two-week programme to celebrate the event.
The programmes began on October 6 with a meeting remembering 34 club members who died over the last one year.

As part of the programmes, an eye camp was held on October 7 on the club premises, followed by Shishu Ananda Mela on October 8 and 9, chess competition on October 10 and 11 and spades trump competition on October 13 and 14, Ludo competition for female members on October 14, table tennis on October 16 and 17.
