The renovated Gandhi Museum was inaugurated Saturday at the Gandhi Ashram Trust in Noakhali on the occasion of the 152 birth anniversary of India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Law Minister Anisul Huq and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami inaugurated the museum. The renovation of the museum housed inside the Gandhi Ashram campus has been supported by India. The guests visited the Gandhi Memorial Museum and appreciated the unique display of memorabilia and artefacts related to Mahatma Gandhi. Upholding the glory of the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India, the High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Vikram Doraiswami stated on Saturday that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mahatma Gandhi,recognised as the fathers of their respective nations, shared similar political philosophy and ideology during their individual journeys. The Indian High Commissioner made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Exhibition at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Saturday. “This unique, interactive digital exhibition commemorates not just Bangladesh’s 50 years of Liberation, but this also commemorates the striking similarities between the two great leaders. This exhibition showcases their struggles in their individual journeys and their history-making political philosophies that led the creation of two nations - India and Bangladesh,” the Indian envoy said in his speech as the guest of honor. He added, “This is a very special moment for us to open the exhibition for the public after the lockdown restrictions of the ongoing pandemic, and we look forward to our friends from Bangladesh and India to visit the exhibition and explore the two iconic leaders’ lives and journey through the power of interactive multimedia.” Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni joined the exhibition as its chief guest, while State Minister for Culture K.M Khalid alongside HE Doraiswami joined the digital exhibition as its guests of honor. Md Abul Monsur, Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs chaired the inauguration ceremony while Liaqat Ali Lucky, director general, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, delivered the welcome speech to the audience. Thanking India for arranging the exhibition, Dr Dipu Moni said, “Bangladesh and India have always shared strong mutual friendship and bilateral relationship, rooted from the greatness of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and India’s Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. India is boosting its production of Covid-19 vaccine, but there is no word yet when it can resume its export of the jabs to Bangladesh, the country’s high commissioner in Dhaka said on Sunday. “We hope the problem will be resolved soon,” High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami told reporters after a meeting with Awami Jubo League Chairman Fazle Shams Parash at the central office of Awami League. The Indian envoy said: "We are increasing corona vaccine production. The corona situation in India is still at a dangerous stage. So we are not yet able to say the exact time of giving corona vaccine to Bangladesh," Also read: Bangladesh to start administering Pfizer vaccine doses Monday Parash recalled India’s crucial help during the 1971 Liberation War and said India has always been by Bangladesh side in everything. “India is our friend of bad days and partner in good days as well,” he said. Parash said that he discussed with the Indian envoy the corona and the current situation in India. Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram Doraiswami is keen to remind his hosts that there is another option of a Covid-19 vaccine available from his country as the vaccine supply from the Serum Institute of India got disrupted amid high domestic demand. The High Commissioner said besides the Covishield vaccine from Serum, the alternative that they have consistently been offering to export Covaxin, which they offered not only for trial here in Bangladesh at their own cost but also for co-production. Covaxin is the brand name of India’s ‘indigenous vaccine’, so-called for also being developed on Indian soil by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV).    Also read: Greater trade, connectivity hold brighter future for Dhaka-Delhi ties: Doraiswami Doraiswami reiterated that for Covaxin, there is also an offer to co-produce that remains on the table. He also said Dhaka can choose to be flexible, so the choice is not either/or. It can choose to order both.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami on Wednesday termed their relations with the Bangladesh Awami League (AL) "historic."

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence is expected to witness a large number of bilateral activities between Bangladesh and India taking historic relations to a new height.
