Schools in the Indian capital will remain closed until further orders in wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said Wednesday, reports Xinhua.

Seven months after screens went dark, cinemas reopened Thursday in much of India with mostly old titles on the marquee — a sign of the country’s efforts to return to normal as the pace of coronavirus infections slows but also of the roadblocks that remain.

India on Thursday reported another record spike of 95,735 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours as the virus spreads beyond its major cities, reports AP.

The confirmed cases from coronavirus in India surged to 4,370,128 on Wednesday, putting the country on the second place in the list of high cases.

India has become the second worst-hit country by the Covid-19 pandemic on Monday as urban metro trains partially resumed service in the capital New Delhi and other states as the government pushes to sustain a weakened economy, reports AP.

India, which remained the third-worst hit country in terms of the number of people infected with the coronavirus, now registered 3.9 million cases,  near Brazil's total that holds the second-highest position in the world.         

India’s coronavirus caseload surpassed three millions on Sunday, with the country leading the world in new infections as the virus marched through impoverished rural areas in the north and the wealthier but older populations of the south, reports AP.
