Momen urges media to uphold national interests in exercising freedom
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has urged the journalists to uphold the country’s interest and dignity while exercising their right to free expression.
“The government is very transparent. We believe in freedom of speech,” he said, adding that in some cases unregulated freedom creates problems.
Sharing his experience of living in the USA, Momen said all freedoms are regulated there and everyone needs to keep in mind that there is limitation.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with the executive committee of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen, DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and its General Secretary AKM Moinuddin were present.
The foreign minister said there is a “sea change” in the country in terms of development and stability which is good for the whole region.
“We have stability and impressive growth,” he said, expecting that everyone involved in journalism will uphold the interest of the country.
Talking about disinformation, Momen said all need to remain careful so that nobody can undermine the country and its interest. “You all love this country. We love too. People’s welfare should be kept in mind.”

DCAB pays tribute to Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi 32
Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) on Friday paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the city.
DCAB members, led by its President Rezaul Karim Lotus and General Secretary AKM Moinuddin, placed wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.

They also stood in solemn silence for some time showing profound respect to the memory of Father of the Nation, the architect of the Independent Bangladesh, his family members, Liberation War martyrs and the Freedom Fighters.

DCAB shocked at death of JPC ex-President Hassan Shahriar
Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Hassan Shahriar, former President of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) who also served The Daily Ittefaq as its Executive Editor.
Shahriar, who was the first journalist from Asia-Pacific to be elected as President of the Toronto-based Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) in 2003, breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka around 11:45am on Saturday.
In a condolence message, DCAB President Pantho Rahaman and its General Secretary AKM Moinuddin conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and sought eternal peace for the departed soul of the veteran journalist.

He was the first editor of the Daily Sun and Chief Editor of Chittagong-based Daily People's View, and worked as Bangladesh correspondent for a number of international media outlets.

Journalist Shahriar was awarded the prestigious Harry Brittan Fellowship by the Commonwealth Press Union (CPU) in 1978.
