Jamaat leader mourns victims of Bagerhat road crash
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar expressed deep shock and sorrow over the road accident in Bagerhat’s Rampal that killed 13 people and left several others seriously injured.
In a condolence message on Thursday, he described the loss of women, children, and ordinary passengers in the tragic accident as “very painful and heartbreaking,” adding that the sudden loss of so many lives is an “irreparable loss for the nation.”

He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and conveyed his deepest condolences to their families, while also praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Jamaat leader urged the authorities to investigate the real cause of the accident and take necessary action against those responsible to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The accident occurred around 4:30pm when the bus of Bangladesh Navy collided head-on with a microbus carrying people returning from a wedding programme, said Md Hasan, sub-inspector of Katakhali Highway Police camp.
Three children, three women and four men were among the deceased, he said.
Rampal Upazila Health and Family Planning officer, Dr Sukanto Kumar Pal, said among the deceased eight bodies were kept at Khulna Medical College and Hospital while the rest were kept in Bagerhat.

Bride and groom returning from wedding party among 12 killed in Bagerhat road crash
Twelve people including a bride were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on the Khulna-Mongla highway at Belai Bridge in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district on Thursday.
Authorities have not yet released their identities officially. All the deceased hailed from Koyra upazila of Khulna district.
Among the deceased, ten were from the same family, including the bride.

2 cousins killed in Bagerhat road crash
Two cousins were killed as their motorcycle collided with a bus in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Jubayer, son of Mozammel Haque and his cousin Abu Sayeed,28, son Sahidul Islam from Khulna sadar upazila.
The accident occurred this afternoon near Rajpat area on Khulna-Mawa highway , said Sheikh Abul Hasan, in charge of Mollahat highway police outpost.
Their motorcycle collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of Rajib Paribahan coming from opposite side, leaving the two brothers severely injured.
They were announced dead when they were taken to upazila health complex, he said.
The bus has been seized but the driver and his assistant managed to flee, said Hasan.

Truck driver held after engineer’s death in Bagerhat road crash
Police arrested the driver of a truck that killed an engineer in Bagerhat on May 22 while driving the vehicle after taking drugs.
The arrestee was identified as Mizanur Rahman, 30, son of Eskandar Sheikh from Rampal upazila, an assistant of the truck driver, said police.

Tipped off, he was arrested from Gaola union in Mollahat upazila Friday evening, said KM Ariful Haque, Superintendent of Bagerhat police at a press briefing on Saturday.
On May 22, the truck hit the motorcycle of Moshiur Rahman, 45, an engineer of Local Government Initiative on Climate Change, breaking the barricade of Munshiganj bridge toll plaza.
He was declared dead when taken to Bagerhat district hospital.
Ariful Haque said Mizanur was driving the truck instead of the driver and another assistant was seating beside him when the accident occurred.
He was driving the truck in high speed fearing that someone had spotted him while taking drugs , said the SP.
The truck has been seized and the accused will be produced before court after completing legal procedures, he said.

Two killed in Bagerhat road crash
Two persons were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a tractor trolley and a van on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur Highway near Shrimp Research Center in Pirojpur on Wednesday morning, officials said.
One of the deceased was identified as Reshmi Begum, wife of Babul Fakir of Sundarghona village of Sadar upazila. All the victims were occupants of the van.

Md Golam Sarwar, assistant director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the accident occurred around 9.30am when the brick-laden tractor trolley crashed into the van, leaving the woman dead on the spot and two others injured.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared one of them dead.

The van puller was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the officer said.
The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
