Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre launches book on Tagore
The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India in Dhaka on Tuesday launched a book on Rabindranath Tagore titled 'A Gift of the Magi to the West' and 'Glimpses of Bengal - His Ecstasy and Agony' written by Prof Anwarul Karim.
The Deputy High Commissioner Dr Binoy George highlighted Gurudev's contributions to the shared Bengali cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh and how the Indian cultural centre has been routinely organising such events that help to promote Tagore's heritage.

He also reminded that in its efforts to protect Tagore's legacy the HCI has helped in the establishment of a Rabindra Bhawan in Tagore's native Shalaidaha at a cost of Tk 18.17 crore.

Doraiswami recalls Bangabandhu’s close association with eminent Indian personalities
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka has paid a solemn tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the centenary year of his birth in the form of a book-reading session.
Participants jointly read portions from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s "The Unfinished Memoirs" and then discussed the selected passages.
The session began with opening remarks of the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami in which he recalled the close association of Bangabandhu with eminent Indian personalities over decades.

His speech was followed by six readings from The Unfinished Memoirs, said the High Commission on Monday.
The readings were punctuated by discussion in which the passage read were discussed briefly for their significance and appeal.
The remarkable and compelling story of Bangabandhu was movingly reflected in the excerpts selected from his Unfinished Memoirs.
Participants along with Indian High Commissioner hailed Bangabandhu’s work for its literary quality as well as its enormous relevance to modern history, politics and the story of Bangladesh.

Participants included eminent writers and personalities from India as well as Bangladesh such as Dr. Fakrul Alam , UGC professor, Department of English, University of Dhaka and the English language translator of The Unfinished Memoirs; Dr. Rajgopal Dhar Chakraborty, Head and Professor , Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, Calcutta University, Mr. Syed Badrul Ahsan, free lancer journalist and former distinguished editor of The Asian Age and author of Seikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Subhayu Chattopadhay- faculty member of Visva Bharati University’s Department of History, Niaz Zaman- retired as Professor of English, University of Dhaka and Adviser at the Department of English of Independent University Bangladesh and Sadaf Saaz- poet, entrepreneur and one of the co- founders of the Dhaka Lit Fest.

IGCC's Malhar Evening attracts global audience
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre of the High Commission of India Dhaka recently organized an online event on Classical Music "Malhar Shondhya" based on Classical Raagas under Malhar Group. Renowned artists from Bangladesh and India performed at the online event.
Malhar is generally performed to welcome rains. Legendary Rabindra Sangeet Singer and ICCR alumnus Rezwana Choudhury Bannya from Bangladesh performed melodious Rabindra Malhar based on mix of Malhar Raagas with basics of Raaga Miyan ki Malhar. Renowned Classical Vocalist from Bangladesh Pt. Swarnamay Chakraborty rendered melodious Raaga Megh Malhar.

Sanskrit learning App "Little Guru" to be launched Monday
Keeping pace with changing technology in both access as well as teaching methods, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has tied up with Gamapp Sportswizz Tech. Pvt. Ltd. to launch "Little Guru," a specialized app for learning Sanskrit.
In Bangladesh, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka will launch the same on Monday (Apri 12, 2021) in the Facebook handle of IGCC- www.facebook.com/IndiraGandhiCulturalCentre/
Little Guru will be a gamified app based on an interactive platform which will make Sanskrit learning easy, entertaining and fun, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
ICCR is launching a campaign to promote Sanskrit language among students, religious scholars, Indologists, historians across the world.
As a part of its mandate to promote the vibrant cultural heritage of India, ICCR promotes Sanskrit through providing books and material to Sanskrit institutes all over the world.
ICCR deputes teachers and professors to universities and institutes teaching Sanskrit.
This app will help people who are already learning Sanskrit or those who are desirous to learn Sanskrit to do so in an easy manner based on games, competition, rewards, peer to peer interactions, etc.
This unique App combines education with entertainment thereby helping keep attention of the learner as well as encourage him/her to advance further.
ICCR is confident that the launch of this App 'Little Guru' will go a long way in popularizing Sanskrit. Sanskrit continues to be a living language, being used by scholars accessing literary texts.
This App would help create awareness not only about language but also open the doors for people to access the rich cultural heritage of India.
