Khaleda still suffering from fever: says her sister
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital on Tuesday, is still suffering from fever, her sister Selima Islam said on Friday.
“She (Khaleda) is still suffering from intermittent fever, leading to an appetite loss. She has been eating very little for the past few days,” she told reporters.
Selima said she could not visit Khaleda at the hospital as she was asked not to go there considering her old age.
She said her brother Shamim Iskander’s wife visited the BNP chief on Thursday and talked to doctors. “We came to know about her health from my brother’s wife.”
Asked whether they will submit any fresh application to the government seeking permission for sending the BNP chief abroad for treatment, she said they will think of it after consultation with Khaleda.
"We had earlier sought government permission twice. “Even my brother (Shamim Iskander) met the Home Minister, but they didn’t give permission,” Selima said.

Benign Covid infection hasn't left Khaleda yet
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s second Covid-19 test report came out positive on Saturday, said her personal medical team member and BNP vice chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
“Madam (Khaleda) underwent the fresh corona test this afternoon. She tested positive for the virus as we received her report at night,” he said after visiting the BNP chief at her Gulshan residence.
Zahid, however, said the BNP chairperson's health condition is fine. "Madam is now doing well. She has no visible symptom of Covid-19.”

He said Khaleda will undergo a further Covid test four-five days later.
It may be noted that since the thrice-former prime minister first tested positive for the virus on April 10, today's test result was to be expected, and absolutely normal. It's possible her doctors hoped to see something different given the clearly very strong immune response she generated, that has prevented almost all the complications associated with COVID-19 from being reported in her.
The physician said they will keep Khaleda under close observation though she has no complication relating to the virus.

He said eight other people who were infected with the virus at Khaleda's residence also underwent the test today (Saturday) and five of them tested negative while the rest three positive for the virus.
Zahid said the health conditions of all of them are stable.
Earlier in the day, Khaleda’s personal physician Mohammad Al Mamun said the BNP chief underwent a fresh Covid-19 test today to know whether she has recovered as she has been doing well with no visible symptoms.

"We first arranged the test for eight others who were infected with the virus at Khaleda's residence in the morning, and then for Madam in the afternoon," he said.
Dr Zahid said Khaleda’s body temperature is normal. "Her breathing and oxygen saturation level are good."

“We’ve examined her health condition. She’s been suffering from low fever for the last three days. Her temperature was persistent during the whole day and even yesterday (Friday) evening. He said, “Considering all the aspects, we can say her condition is still stable. If we compare her Friday’s level of temperature with Saturday’s , we find a little bit of improvement in her condition. We’re handling everything professionally with our medical skills and specialisation,” he said.
Dr FM Siddiqui said they found Khaleda's temperature around 100.2°F at about 10:15pm on Saturday. “We’ve started giving her the antiviral medicine and she has already received two doses of it. We also think the response to the medicine is positive. We’ve checked her blood circulation and respiration, and these are good. Her saturation level is always persistent between 97 and 98 percent.”
Stating that the BNP chief’s Covid infection entered the ninth day on Saturday, he said she is now passing through a complicated time. “We’ll take necessary steps immediately if we get any danger signal or deterioration in her condition. As of now, we think, everything is fine. But we don’t want to show any leniency until a two-week period of her infection is passed off, and we’ll continue our, close monitoring.”
