Be vigilant against arson in the name of political programs: DMP commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Monday directed his officials to be extremely vigilant so that no one can commit any acts of arson in the name of political program in the city.
The DMP commissioner gave the directive as political programs have increased ahead of the elections while addressing a monthly crime review meeting of the DMP. The crime review meeting for the month of April this year was held at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh presided over by the DMP Commissioner.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner gave thanks to the officers and forces at all levels of the DMP for keeping law and order at a satisfactory level during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

He also asked them to continue the regular campaign against theft and drug trafficking. "The crime division and the traffic department of the DMP have to work together to keep the footpaths free from occupation," he said.
Everyone should keep a watchful eye so that law and order does not deteriorate, he said, adding that the real culprit must be brought under the law. "Everyone in charge has to fulfill their responsibilities properly."
The DMP commissioner also directed that everyone should work more relentlessly to prevent crime in Dhaka city.
In this monthly crime review meeting, the DMP Commissioner awarded the best police officers in recognition of their good work including maintaining law and order and public safety in Dhaka City.

Among others, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations)of the DMP Krishna Pad Roy, Additional Commissioner (Detective) AKM Hafeez Akter, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Munibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner (CTTC) Md Asaduzzaman, Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and other senior officers were present in the meeting.

Tenure of DMP Commissioner extends for another year
The tenure of incumbent Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has been extended for another year, according to the public administration ministry.
In a notification issued on Thursday the ministry said Md Shafiqul’s one-year contractual appointment will be effective from October 30 or the date of joining.

He began his career in 1989 as Assistant Superintendent of Police as the 8th Bangladesh Civil Service cadre (police).
On September 13, 2019 he took the responsibility as 34th Commissioner of DMP.
Earlier he served as Additional Inspector General of Police in the Crime Investigation Bureau of Bangladesh police.

Mourning Day: DMP chief says police on high alert to ensure security
Police are on high alert to ensure the foolproof security ahead of the National Mourning Day, said DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Saturday.
“Though there’s no security threat ahead of August 15, but we can’t rule out any possibility,” said the DMP chief while talking to reporters after checking the overall security at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32.

“August 15 is an important day and the militants may try to carry out subversive activities in the two-km area of the programme venue if they fail to carry out an attack on the location in a bid to draw attention of the international media. But we think no such incident will happen,” he said.
“Now the cyber technology has captivated the world and militants are recruiting and encouraging people to use it. Recently, the Taliban has urged people to join the war in Afghanistan and some people, responding to their call, have left home. We just want to say the militants are active,” said Shafiqul.
On Thursday, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), arrested an alleged leader of a militant group who used to train people for making bombs, he said, adding “We’ve succeeded in arresting the gang.”
People across the country will observe the National Mourning Day, the darkest chapter in the history of independent Bangladesh, on Saturday.

On this day in 1975, the nation’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were assassinated by a cabal of military men.
The government, various socio-cultural, political and professional organisations, including ruling Awami League and its associate bodies, chalked out programmes to observe the day.
