Severe heat wave sweeps over Chuadanga, Bagerhat
A severe heat wave is scorching the districts of Chuadanga and Bagerhat while a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, parts of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, according to weather office.
The severity may ease in some other places, said a met office bulletin.
Heatwave sweeps over 8 divisions as temperatures soar
Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places, said a regular bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Weather forecast for 72 hrs: What BMD is saying about rain in Dhaka, other places
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted a dynamic weather pattern for the coming 72 hours, starting at 9 am today (January 18, 2024), impacting various regions of the country including Dhaka.
According to a recent BMD bulletin, “Rain or thundershowers are expected in several areas, with Khulna and Barishal divisions likely to experience scattered showers. Isolated rain or thundershowers may occur in Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions. Meanwhile, other regions can expect mainly dry conditions with temporary partly cloudy skies.”
The bulletin also warns of moderate to thick fog affecting many areas from midnight to morning. A mild cold wave is currently sweeping through the Rangpur division, as well as the districts of Kishoreganj and Noagaon, with potential to persist.
Dinajpur recorded the country’s lowest temperature today at 8 degrees Celsius.

Transport sectors, including air navigation, inland river transport, and road communication, face potential disruptions due to foggy conditions.
Temperatures are expected to fall slightly in the north-northeastern regions, while remaining relatively stable in other parts of Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the BMD anticipates “cold day conditions” in certain areas, highlighting the need for residents to prepare for a range of weather scenarios.

Light to moderate rain likely across country in 24 hours: BMD
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in eight divisions, including Dhaka, in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday (September 11, 2023).

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions; at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country," said a regular BMD bulletin on Monday.
Day and night temperatures may fall slightly over the country.
Country’s highest 132 mm rainfall was recorded in Chattogram’s Kutubdia in 24 hours till 6am today.

Meanwhile, mild heat wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajgonj, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Jashore, Chuadanga, Barishal, Patuakhali and Bhola districts and it may abate in some places, said the bulletin.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, added the bulletin.

No respite from heat wave in 7 days: BMD
There seems to be no respite from the sizzling heat as Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) has predicted that the prevailing mild to moderate heat wave condition in the country will continue in the next seven days.
The BMD issued an alert message in this regard on Tuesday (April 11, 2023).
The people of the country continue to experience the scorching heat with maximum temperature recording 39.2 degree Celsius in Chuadanga and 16. 5 degree Celsius minimum temperature in Tentulia today. Dhaka’s temperature has been recorded at 37.5 degree Celsius.

According to a Met office bulletin, “ Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram and Nertakona districts and it may continue.”
Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
The Department of Agricultural Extension has provided guidelines to protect crops and fruit amidst the ongoing mild heatwave across the country.

Severe cyclonic storm Yaas weakens after hitting Odisha, WB coast
Sever Cyclonic Storm Yaas which intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over Northwest Bay and adjoining area completed crossing North Odisha-West Bengal coast between North of Dhamra & South of Balasore by 3pm on Wednesday.
Then it weakened into a severe cyclonic storm and now lies over coastal North Odisha, said a bulletin of Bangladesh Metrological Department.

It may move north-northwestwards further over land and weakened gradually, it added.
The met office forecast rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind at most places over Khulna, Barishal, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur & Chattogram divisions and at many places over Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.
