Launch services on Shimulia-Banglabazar routes suspended due to inclement weather
Launch services on the Shimulia-Banglabazar-Majhirkandi routes have been suspended since 6 pm on Tuesday due to inclement weather.
Assistant director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shahadat Hossain said the authorities concerned have decided to suspend launch services on the routes due to stormy weather and rain.

Assistant General Manager of BIWTC, Shimulia Ghat, Shafiqul Islam, said the ferries were operating on the routes as usual with six ferries in operation.
The launch services will resume from 6 am on Wednesday given an improvement of weather conditions.
Earlier, the launch services remained suspended for one hour from 2:35 pm to 3:35 pm due to a storm on Tuesday.

Ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route suspended for bad weather
Ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route were suspended on Thursday noon due to stormy weather.
Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shimulia Ferry Ghat, said the ferries on the route were operating with risk due to strong current in the Padma river since morning.

Around noon, the authorities suspended the ferry services due to strong current in the river.
Some 600 vehicles were seen waiting on the both sides for crossing the river, he said.
Besides, several hundred people from southern and eastern parts of the country were also seen waiting on the ferry ghats to cross the river.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary number three as the well marked low over southwestern part of Bangladesh and adjoining area now lies over western part of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal.
“Under its influence, deep convection is taking place and a steep pressure gradient lies over North Bay and adjoining areas,” said a Met office bulletin.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, it said.
All boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Consumers may experience disruption in gas supply until June 16
Consumers may experience trouble in gas supply from Monday to Wednesday due to disruption in delivery of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd said consumers may experience disruption or low pressure in gas supply from June 14-16 as unloading of LNG from ships is being disrupted due to inclement weather.

“This creates disturbance in supply of 400 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) to the transmission system”, it said, adding that consumers of different groups including households, industries, power plants and commercial users may suffer.
