Rohingya refugees from Myanmar living in camps in Bangladesh condemned the military coup in their homeland and said it makes them more fearful to return.

Amid the changed situation in Myanmar, the next round of discussions on Rohingya repatriation, scheduled to take place virtually on Thursday, looks uncertain.

On the eve of discussions between Bangladesh and Myanmar on resolving the Rohingya refugee crisis, China, which provides the 'tripartite' framework  to the dialogue, said it will continue to support the other two countries to find an early and durable solution.

Bangladesh, Myanmar and China will hold a virtual tripartite meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways to expedite the Rohingya repatriation process.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday said Bangladesh will approach for resuming the Rohingya repatriation talks after the full formation of a new government in Myanmar, saying Bangladesh stands ready to send back Rohingyas.

The Government of Myanmar should embrace upcoming national elections, scheduled for November, as an opportunity to take a new and fully inclusive democratic path, and to address the root of causes of abuses suffered by ethnic minorities, a UN human rights office (OHCHR) has urged.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller has said the international community must continue to press Myanmar to respect human rights establishing conditions to allow the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable return of Rohingyas to Myanmar.
