Section 144 imposed in Bagerhat’s Kachua over BNP rally and ex-MP’s reception
The administration in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat has imposed Section 144 to avert potential clashes, as two separate events were scheduled to be held at nearby venues in the Goalmath area on Tuesday.
The restriction, effective from 10 am to 6 pm on Tuesday, was enforced following an order issued on Monday night by Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Abu Noushad.
The order prohibits all public gatherings, meetings and the carrying of firearms within one-kilometer radius of the venues, including the Goalmath Rashik Lal Secondary School and the Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology College grounds.
However, emergency services and law enforcement personnel are exempt from the restriction.
According to local sources, a reception for MAH Selim, former MP of Bagerhat-2 constituency and ex-president of the district BNP, was planned at the Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology College grounds on Tuesday afternoon.

Simultaneously, Kachua upazila BNP had announced a public rally at the nearby Rashik Lal Secondary School grounds.
With tensions reportedly escalating between supporters of both events, the administration took the preventive step to ensure public safety and order.
“Both venues are located in close proximity and there was a risk of unwanted incidents. Considering the circumstances, Section 144 has been imposed as a precautionary measure,” said UNO KM Abu Noushad.

Section 144 imposed in Thakurgaon temple area to avert possible clash
Authorities in Thakugaon’s Sadar upazila imposed restrictions on public gatherings in the Rashik Lal Jeu Temple area on Thursday to avert any untoward incident ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamsuzzaman invoked Section 144, that restricts freedom of assembly, apprehending a clash between two rival groups of devotees: one the followers of Sanatan Dharma (traditional religion, more commonly known as Hinduism) as practised here over thousands of years and another loyal to the International Society for Krishno Consciousness (Iskcon), a fairly recent, 20th century movement within Hinduism.
The restrictions applied under Section 144 of the CrPc have been in force in the area from Thursday afternoon and will continue for an indefinite period, the UNO added.
According to locals, the two groups have been at loggerheads for a long time over possession of the Rashik Lal Jeu temple land.

In September 2009, a group of Iskcon men stormed the house of Prafulla Chandra, president of Rashik Roy Jeu temple. A person died in the attack, while several were injured.
Thereafter, the upazila administration sealed the temple and took over the responsibility of managing the temple.
In the past, the administration has resorted to invoking Section 144 in the temple area several times to avert untoward incidents in various Pujas.

Authorities at Pabna’s Bhangura upazila have imposed restrictions on public assembly to avert any untoward incident as two rival political parties announced simultaneous rallies at the same venue.
The restrictions applied under Section 144 of the CrPc have been in force in the upazila since 6 am, and will stay until 12 am today (September 5, 2022), said the local administration.

Bhangura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Nahid Hasan Khan issued this order yesterday night.
He said that the administration resorted to the restriction to keep the law and order situation under control.
All types of public gatherings in the area adjacent to and around the upazila sadar have been banned.
Bhangura unit BNP called a protest rally on Monday protesting the hike in the prices of fuel and daily commodities as well as the recent attacks on BNP activists.

On the other hand, the upazila unit of Awami League (AL) announced a rally against ‘BNP’s anarchy’ at the same place.
Fearing deterioration in law and order situation, the administration imposed Section 144 to maintain peace in the area, said Md Faisal Bin Ahsan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhangura police station.

Authorities at Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh upazila imposed restrictions on public assembly Monday to avert any untoward incident as two rival political groups announced simultaneous rallies at the same venue.
The restrictions applied under Section 144 of the CrPc have been in force in parts of the Ramgarh municipality since 8 am, and is supposed to stay until 4 pm, said the local administration.
Ramgarh Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Khondkar Md Ikhtiyar Uddin Arafat issued this order on Sunday night.
All types of public gatherings within the Masterpara cinema area of the municipal city and the municipal building area have been banned.

Ramgarh unit BNP called a protest rally on Monday at former upazila chairman Belayet Hossain Bhuiya's residence premises adjacent to Ramgarh municipality to protest against the hike in commodity prices and the attack on their leaders and activists at various places.
On the other hand, the upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student front of ruling Awami League, announced a rally and discussion meeting marking National Mourning Day at the same time at the same place.

Section 144 imposed in parts of Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati to avert possible AL-BNP clash
Local administrations of Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua and Rangamati’s Kaptai upazilas imposed Section 144 of the CrPC, that restricts freedom of assembly - effectively a curfew - in their respective areas on Sunday to avert any untoward situation after yet another instance of local units of the two main political parties calling for clashing or back-to-back programs that greatly increase the security risk in any setting.
Local law enforcement resources around the country have been frequently stretched in this manner in the last few months, but also throughout the year.
The curfew imposed by Pekua upazila administration has been in force from 6am, and is supposed to go till 9pm. All types of public gatherings within the upazila’s Sikder Para Stadium and Kabir Chowdhury Bazar areas were banned during the curfew.
The curfew was imposed through a notification signed by Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Purbita Chakma.
BNP’s Pekua upazila unit had called for a rally protesting the recent fuel price hike on Sunday, while the local AL unit had called for a mourning program simultaneously.
On Saturday night, AL and BNP activists took positions in the upazila’s Chowmuhani and Stadium areas, which compelled the local administration to impose Section 144 fearing the eruption of a clash.

On the other hand, Kaptai upazila administration issued a notification signed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muntasir Jahan on Saturday night, banning all types of meetings and demonstrations in Kaptai Sadar area from 6:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday.
According to Muntasir, the Kaptai unit of BNP was taking preparations for a rally to be held on Sunday protesting the price hike of fuel and daily essentials, while the local AL had also called for a protest rally on the same day demanding the hanging of BNP leader Tarique Rahman.
“As there was a possibility for the deterioration of the law and order situation, we had to impose Section 144 to maintain peace and stability in the area,” said the UNO.

Section 144 imposed in Barishal’s Hijla over fears of AL infighting
Local administration imposed Section 144, restricting freedom of assembly, at Harinathpur Gorur Hat area under Barishal’s Hijla upazila over fears of infighting between two rival groups of local AL on Friday.
Officer In-charge of Hijla police station Yunus Mia confirmed the matter on Friday night.
“Section 144 has been imposed as two rival groups of local AL have called for simultaneous programmes at the same place. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) has imposed the curfew from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday,” said the OC.
Anwar Hossain Khan, President of Harinathpur union AL, called for the ward AL’s triennial conference at the Gorur Hat field, while Harinathpur union parishad Chairman and General Secretary of union AL Taufiqur Rahman Sikder has called for a meeting of the party activists at the same place.
“The upazila administration has imposed the section 144 to avert any untoward situation,” said Bokul Chandra Kabiraj, the UNO of Hijla.

Prohibitory orders imposed in Patuakhali’s Baufal
Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders in Patuakhali’s Baufal upazila in the wake of the two rival factions of the ruling Awami League's (AL) local unit calling press conferences in the party office at the same time on Friday.
The order under Section 144 of CrPC, which prohibits the gathering of four or more people, will be in effect from 8am to 10pm on Friday as per the instructions of upazila nirbahi officer and executive magistrate Md Al Amin, police said.

The press conferences were called by the chairman and general secretary of the upazila AL, Abdul Motaleb Hawlader, and his rival in the party, Patuakhali-2 Baufal MP ASM Feroze, respectively.
Due to the long-standing rivalry between the two AL factions, the upazila has witnessed several violent incidents over the years.
Extra police personnel have been deployed near the upazila Janata Bhaban party office and other areas of the upazila to avoid any untoward situation, police said.

Party sources told UNB that the two AL leaders may meet the press at different venues due to the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC.

Section 144 imposed in B’baria
The district administration in Brahmanbaria has imposed Section 144 on Saturday to prevent any untoward incident after BNP and Juba League planned rallies at the same venue. It was announced through a notification signed by Deputy Commissioner Hayat Ud Daula Khan on Friday evening.

Chhatra League also called a rally on the occasion of the founding anniversary at the same venue. Apprehending trouble, the local administration on Friday evening imposed the emergency section, that outlaws assembly.

Section 144 imposed in Chapainawabganj ahead of AL rally
The Nachol upazila administration has imposed Section 144 to prevent any untoward incident as two factions of upazila Awami League planned rallies on Monday at the same venue.
Nachol Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharif Ahmed said the restriction will remain in force in Nachol Bus stand and adjacent areas from 7am to 7pm on Monday.

Earlier, Nachol Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Nachol Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Quader called a rally at Nachol bus stand at 10 am on Monday.
Besides,Municipality Awami League President and municipality Mayor Abdur Rashid Khan Jhalu also called a rally at the same venue.
