Unidentified woman’s body found outside Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka
Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the sidewalk in front of the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital’s Hatirjheel area early Tuesday.
The woman, believed to be around 45 years old, was wearing an orange saree, blouse, and petticoat at the time of recovery. Her identity could not be ascertained immediately.

Hatirjheel Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahin Parvez said that they received information at around 5:30am about an injured woman lying in the footpath outside the hotel. "We found her head severely crushed. She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead around 6am," he said.
He added that police tried to identify her using fingerprints, but no National ID record could be matched.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
“Preliminary inquiries suggest the woman may have been homeless and used to stay in the vicinity of the Sonargaon Hotel,” SI Shahin said, adding that efforts are underway to determine her identity.
"We are also investigating whether it was a road accident or if there was any other reason behind her death. The exact cause will be known once we receive the autopsy report," the officer added.

Man hacked to death in Pallabi
A 35-year-old man was hacked to death by assailants in the capital's Pallabi area on Friday evening, reportedly over previous enmity.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Selim. The attack took place in front of the WAPDA Building during iftar time, according to eyewitnesses.
Selim's relatives rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition. However, doctors declared him dead at 7:50pm after examination.
His aunt, Yasmin Akhter, alleged that a group of 7-8 individuals, led by a man named Jony, attacked Selim with machetes, leaving him critically injured. The attackers, identified as known drug dealers in the area, included Rani, Dulal, Parvin, Dulara, and Seema, she claimed.

"My nephew worked in fabric embellishment and embroidery and was a supporter of the Jubo Dal," Yasmin said. "Earlier, he had a dispute with some Awami League activists. Today, those activists and drug dealers killed him."
Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body had been sent to the morgue for autopsy, and the concerned police station had been informed.
Selim lived with his wife and children in the Bihari Camp near the WAPDA Building in Pallabi. He was the only brother of five sisters and a father of two, according to his family.

Youth arrested over university student murder in Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested a youth on Thursday for his suspected involvement in the killing of a private university student in the city’s Karwanbazar area on Tuesday.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-2 conducted a drive and arrested Md Tuhin, 20 from Munnunagar area in Gazipur, said a press release of Rab-2.
According to Rab, during interrogation, Tuhin confessed to killing Keshob Roy Papon,24, a student of Computer Science department of Sonargaon University, during snatching his valuables.

Further drive to arrest other criminals involved in the murder will be conducted following information gleaned from Tuhin, they said.
On October, 5, Keshob Roy was hacked by some miscreants in front of Hotel Marine at Tejturi Bazar in the city.

The miscreants fled the scene leaving Papon injured. Doctors announced him dead after locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
On October 6, Papon’s uncle filed a murder case at Tejgaon police station.

Uttara stabbing: ISP worker killed in 'merciless' attack by friends
A 24-year-old man was "mercilessly" stabbed to death apparently by his friends in Dhaka's Uttara Sunday, while another was seriously injured in the attack.
Shakil Hossain, 24, suffered serious wounds and was declared dead at 10:30pm after being referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from one in Uttara.
The injured was identified as Shagor, 23. He is undergoing treatment at an Uttara hospital, Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, confirmed.
The 24-year-old man was from Dakshinkhan and would live with his family. He was the second of three siblings.

"As the doctor's confirmed Shakil's death, his relatives forcibly took away his body. I have informed the concerned police station about this," Bachchu said.
Shahadat Hossain, the deceased's brother, said: "Shakil worked for an internet service provider (ISP). His friend Sabbir, who invited him for evening snacks, had a murder plan ready."
Shakil's friend Zubair said, "Shakil had fallen out with his friend Bhuiyan Sabbir Saturday over an issue. However, he went to Abdullahpur Sunday with his girlfriend and another friend Shagor at the invitation of Sabbir. When they arrived there, Sabbir told Shakil that Shagor was not invited. Next, he asked Shagor and Shakil's girlfriend to wait and took Shakil to a nearby place, using the pretext of having a private talk."
"This is when Sabbir, Shamim, Shikder, Mridul and a few others started stabbing Shakil repeatedly. As Shagor rushed to the spot hearing Shakil scream, they attacked him too and fled leaving him injured," Zubair added.
