Sramik League leader arrested with yaba in Narayanganj
Narayanganj DB police have arrested a Sramik League leader with 700 pieces of yaba pills at Sonargaon in the district.
Police arrested Sonargaon Union Sramik League General Secretary Ashik Sarkar with Yaba on Wednesday night, according to Narayanganj DB police SI Md. Ruhul Amin.
SI Md. Ruhul Amin said Ashik was arrested during an anti drug operation in the area.

Preparations are underway to file a case against Ashik under the Narcotics Control Act, he said.
The arrestee was identified as Ashik Sarkar, son of Rup Miya Sarkar from Kathalipara village of Sadipur union under Narayanganj.

However, Sadipur Union Member Al Amin said police took his signature as witness of seizing 1400 pieces of Yaba and four rounds of bullets.
But later the police mentioned about only 700 pieces of Yaba, said UP member Al Amin.
When contacted, Sonargaon area in charge of DB police Al Mamun said, “I don’t know anything about this. But I will inform you if I find any information about this.”

Lalmonirhat Sramik League activist killed in attack by BNP men, locals say
An activist of Sramik League was allegedly killed in an attack by the leaders and activists of BNP during the nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal at Mahendranagar in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain, 50, an activist of Gokunda unit Sramik League and son of Azizar Rahman of the area.
Witnesses said local leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies brought out a procession against the daylong hartal in the morning.

When the procession reached Burirbazar Mosque area, police obstructed them.
At one stage, some BNP men started throwing bricks targeting police and Awami League men, initiating a chase and counter chase.

Later, some BNP men beat up Jahangir and stabbed him with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured, they said.
Jahangir was taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, said Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Two activists of Awami League were also injured in the attack and they were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
No complaint has been lodged yet, said the OC.

3 Sramik League activists stabbed over ‘intra-party feud’ in Natore
Three activists of Sramik League were stabbed reportedly over intra-party feud in Natore town on Thursday.

Witnesses said, a group of youths entered the Sramik League office in Chakbaiddanath area of the town around 2 pm and stabbed Chanchal,32,Al Amin,22 and Swapan Sheikh,30.

Later the victims were rescued and admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital.
Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of sadar police station, said, the incident took place due to Chanchal’s dispute with Payel, another Sramik League activist, over a trifling matter.

6 hurt in clash involving Sramik League in Manikganj
At least six people were injured in a clash between two groups of Sramik League, one of Awami League’s front organisations, over placing wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Tuesday.
The clash erupted between the followers of Sramik League leaders Abdul Jalil and Babul Sarkar around 9:00am in front of the central Shaheed Minar at Manikganj Govt High School. Later, the Jubo League and the Shecchashebok League also got involved in the fight.
Jubo League leaders Nazmul and Pradip Basu, Shecchashebok League leader Kajal and Sramik League leader Kader were among the injured.
According to police and party sources, a long-standing dispute has been going on between Abdul Jalil and Babul Sarkar over the leadership of district Sramik League. Both claim themselves as president of the district Sramik League.
On Tuesday morning, leaders and activists from Awami League’s front organisations gathered around Manikganj’s central Shaheed Minar to pay their homage to the 1952 Language Movement martyrs.
Later, district AL’s former additional secretary Sultanul Azam Khan announced the name of Abdul Jalil as the Shecchashebok League leader to place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar triggering protest from Babul Sarkar’s followers. Protests led to a massive clash between the two groups.
Senior party leaders and police officers intervened to bring the situation under control about half an hour later.
District Awami League's General Secretary Abdus Salam termed the incident "unexpected" and said disciplinary action would be taken against those who were involved in the clash.
Abdur Rouf, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, told UNB that no complaint was immediately filed in this regard.
“However, the senior leaders of the district Awami League have managed to reach a compromise between the two groups,” he added.

Sramik League leader hacked to death in Rajshahi
A Sramik League leader was hacked to death in Rajshahi’s Bhadra Rail Colony over land feud on Friday noon, police said.
The victim was identified as Zahurul Islam, a railway portal at Amanura station in Chapainawabganj.
He was the vice-president of the railway Sramik League and former general secretary of ward-19 Awami League.
Touhidul Haque Sumon, local councilor of Ward-19 said Zahurul was having a dispute with Sajeeb, son of Motihar, another railway worker, over farming on a railway land behind his house.
On Friday afternoon, Sajeeb stabbed him and escaped after a quarrel with Zahurul while planting paddy in the feild. Locals took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctor on duty declared him dead, he said.

Chandrima Police officer-in-charge (OC) Imran Ali said Zahurul and Sajeeb were both railway employees. The two of them used to cultivate on railway land for several years. This year, when Zahurul went to plant paddy in the land alone which became a matter of dispute.
Sajeeb's father Matiar has been arrested and taken into police custody. He was present during the incident, the OC said.

HC grants bail to expelled Sramik League leader in a graft case
The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to expelled Sramik League leader Tufan Sarkar of Bogura in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commision.
Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition.
On October 18, the HC issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why Tufan should not be granted bail in the case.

Advocate Rafiqul Islam Sohel stood for Tufan while Advocate Sazzad Hossain and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the ACC and state respectively.
The case was filed against Tufan over amassing wealth and concealing wealth information.
According to the case despite having no known source of income Tufan was accused of hiding information about his property worth over Tk 29 lakh besides amassing about Tk. 1.60 crore beyond his known source of income.

Tufan has been in prison since 2017 in a case filed over the rape and torture of a schoolgirl and her mother.
On June 22, 2020, the High Court rejected his bail plea in the case.
