Anamul included in Bangladesh’s Asia Cup squad as Litton ruled out
Bangladesh's opening batsman, Litton Das, has been ruled out of the ACC Asia Cup 2023 due to an unfortunate bout of viral fever. His absence has prompted a swift reshuffle in the Bangladesh squad, with Anamul Haque Bijoy stepping in as his replacement.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development on Wednesday morning (August 30, 2023).
The opener's inability to travel to Sri Lanka with the Tigers’ Asia Cup squad and his ongoing struggle to overcome the lingering fever have ultimately led to his withdrawal from the much-awaited competition.
Litton Das Ruled out of First Match Due to Fever
The National Selection Panel of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called upon Anamul, a 30-year-old right-handed batter, to fill the void left by Litton.
An experienced campaigner, Anamul boasts an impressive track record, having featured in 44 ODIs and accumulating 1254 runs, including three centuries. His latest appearance in an ODI match for Bangladesh dates back to December last year when he faced India on the field.

Minhajul Abedin, Chairman of BCB’s National Selection Panel, shared insights into the thought process behind Anamul’s selection. "He (Anamul) has been in the runs in domestic cricket, and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration," Minhajul remarked.
Minhajul went on to explain, "Due to Litton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket, and Anamul got the nod."
Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka on August 31 in their opening Asia Cup match in Kandy. Following that, they will travel to Pakistan to play their second Asia Cup match against Afghanistan.

BAN vs IRE 2023 Test Preview: Analysis of Bangladesh Squad
After so many calculations, BCB announced a 14-man squad on Saturday for the only Test against Ireland. Though Shakib and Litton have been expecting to attend the IPL, they are selected as captain and vice-captain. Bangladesh vs Ireland test match will take place from April 4 to April 9 at Dhaka. Let’s take a look at the preview Bangladesh vs Ireland Test 2023.
Analysis of Bangladesh Test Squad Against Ireland
Ireland has played only three Tests since receiving Test status. The last match was almost three and a half years ago. Against teams that lag behind in strength and experience, there is an opportunity to experiment. There is also the matter of seeing someone playing outside the regular eleven. But Bangladesh Cricket Board is not walking that way as they have announced a squad with top players, including Shakib and Litton. According to selector Abdur Razzak, they want to get a big win against a small opponent. And that is why Bangladesh will play with full strength.
However, there are some changes in the Bangladesh squad. Yasir Ali Rabbi, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Nasum Ahmed, and Rejaur Rahman Raja have been dropped from the team that played against India. Also, Zakir Hasan, who scored a century in the Test debut, is out due to injury. Zakir's injury opened the luck for Sadman Islam. The left-handed opener returned to the national team after a year.

On the other hand, regular opener Tamim Iqbal, who could not play in the India vs Bangladesh series due to injury, has returned to the Test team. Pacers Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam also returned to the team. Shoriful and Ebadat were not in the India series due to injuries. Both returned to the squad for the Ireland Test. Rejaur and Nasum, who are waiting for their Test debut, could not make it to the team because of Shoriful and Ebadat’s return.
The Irish could not give a big fight except winning the last T20 in Bangladesh this time. They did not get any chance at all in the ODI series. The same happened in the first two T20Is. The last match was only a consolation win. But that does not reduce the fear of doing well in the Test. That is why Bangladesh doesn’t want to take any risk, as this is the only Test.
Bangladesh Squad
Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Litton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy.

Players to Watch
Among these 14 players, fans are expecting more from a few players, such as Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hassan Miraz.
Litton Das
Litton’s performance in the series against India did not live up to expectations. But he got good news after scoring a half-century in the last inning. The stylish batsman touched his career-best position in the ICC Test batsmen rankings, which is also the best in Bangladesh's 22-year Test history.
In the weekly update of the ICC rankings, Litton was at number 12 after the India series. He rose to twelfth place in March 2022. His ranking remained the same after finishing the Test against Sri Lanka in May at Mirpur. No other batsman from Bangladesh has ever climbed so high in the test ranking. Now he is at 14 with 702 ratings. So, it is expected that Litton will climb up in the test ranking again.

Shakib Al Hasan

However, he could not contribute well with bats in the second match. Shakib has had great form, as he proved in the England and Ireland series. And we can expect excellent performance in Test too. Currently, Shakib is at number 3 allrounder in the ICC Test ranking.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the highest wicket-taker for the Bangladesh team in 2022. Miraz took 31 wickets in Tests and played 8 matches. He gave 1030 runs off 2061 balls. Therefore, Miraz took 1 wicket in every 33 balls. He also did excellent in the most recent test series against India. He took 11 wickets against India. And he is certainly waiting for Ireland to give his best.

Bangladesh Squad Analysis in 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Nigar Sultana will lead the Tigresses at this year’s T20 World Cup, with Hashan Tillakaratne as head coach. This marks the fifth time Bangladesh has taken part in this tournament, having first competed in 2014 when they hosted. The team earned their place in the main event by winning the qualifier tournament in the UAE last year, beating Thailand in the semifinals and Ireland in the final.
The Bangladesh squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup has several players from their victorious U19 team. Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter, and Disha Biswas were all part of the side that shocked Australia U19 on the first day of the tournament, winning by a convincing seven wickets. Their success continued, and the team made it to the Super Six stage, ultimately finishing third in the group.

Key Strength of the Bangladesh Team
The presence of the most recent U19 performers, such as Shorna Akter, Disha Biswas, and Marufa Akter, will surely boost the confidence of the Bangladesh team. Having them on the team will not only benefit the team’s performance, but it will also give the players a chance to gain experience from playing at the top level of cricket. They will be able to get accustomed to the competitive atmosphere and will be able to gain invaluable knowledge from it.
Nigar Sultana’s leadership is also another significant strength for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team. As an experienced player, she brings a lot of positivity, calm, and composure to the Bangladesh setup. Her performances will be crucial for Bangladesh, and her captaincy skills will be on display for everyone to see.

In addition to that, Nigar Sultana’s leadership and determination to succeed have made her a true idol to admire. So far, she has played 69 T20I matches and scored 1,225 runs with a 24.50 batting average. So, it is expected that Nigar Sultana’s batting and wicket keeping performance will surely help the Bangladesh team.
Further, winning the qualifier will also work as a confidence booster. Having won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier, the team is looking to make a strong impression in the group-stage matches. With confidence and determination, Bangladesh is ready to show the world what they are capable of.
Apart from these confidence-boosting opportunities, bowlers Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam will also play a key role in the team. Salma started her T20I career with her debut against Ireland on August 28, 2012.
In June 2018, she had the honor of being a part of Bangladesh’s first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title. She was subsequently named captain of Bangladesh’s 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament squad. She appeared in 91 T20I matches and took 84 wickets with 4/6 best bowling figures.

On the other hand, Jahanara Alam played 75 T20I matches and grabbed 57 wickets with a 21.75 bowling average. In October 2018, Salma Khatun was included in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.
During the tournament, she topped the wicket-taking charts for Bangladesh, claiming six wickets in four matches. After the tournament ended, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named her as the standout player in the team. So, Jahanara Alam is one of the top strengths of the Bangladesh team.
Weakness of the Bangladesh Team
Bangladesh has encountered several defeats leading up to the World Cup. This may lower the confidence level. They were crushed by New Zealand in a T20I series, losing all three matches. During the Asia Cup, the team was disappointed with the results, and this may have downgraded their spirits.
In addition to that, Bangladesh’s batters have been struggling with a low strike rate, which is a major source of worry in the T20I format. This game requires quick decisions and a fast-paced approach, leaving no room for weakness.

Bangladesh’s success relies heavily on its experienced players; however, for the team to reach its full potential, younger, less experienced players need to step up and make an impact. The failure of senior players may cost a loss for the team. The World Cup is an opportunity for them to prove their worth and show the world what they are capable of. The team’s collective strength will be tested, and this could be a turning point for Bangladesh.
Prospect of Bangladesh in the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Ahead of the tournament, Bangladesh has had two warm-up fixtures against Ireland. In the first match, Jahanara Alam shined with four wickets, and the team secured a five-wicket triumph. Unfortunately, the second match resulted in an eight-wicket defeat for Bangladesh.
To further prepare for the tournament, Bangladesh had two more practice games against Pakistan on February 6 and India on February 8. Pakistan Women’s team won by 6 wickets in the first warm up match. Bangladesh also lost to India. Team India won the warm up match by 52 runs.
Hence, these matches may resemble Bangladesh’s preparation. And any match with the big team may give a hard time to the Bangladesh team. Bangladesh will play against Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Since these teams are stronger, Bangladesh may face difficulties in winning over them. Hence, Bangladesh has less chance to proceed to the semifinal.

Bangladesh has opted to leave out pace bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam due to their respective injuries for this match.
Nasum Ahmed has been called up as a substitute for Shakib Al Hasan in the next Test match as Shakib will likely be limited to batting only due to an injury he sustained from a bouncer bowled by Umran Malik in the ODI series.
