Global Covid-19 cases now over 681 million
The overall number of Covid-19 cases around the world has now surpassed 681 million.
According to the latest global data, the total Covid-19 case count amounted to 681,658,125 while the death toll reached 6,812,441 this morning.
The US has reported 105,649,010 Covid-19 cases so far, while 1,148,993 people have died from the virus in the country — both highest counts globally.
India logged 524 new Covid-19 cases, while the active cases rose to 3,618, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.
The death toll has increased to 5,30,781 with one death recorded in Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The Covid-19 case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,90,492).
Meanwhile, France has registered 39,657,165 Covid-19 cases so far, occupying the third position in the world number-wise, and 165,213 people have died in the country, as per Worldometer.
Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported seven more Covid-19 cases in 24 hours till Monday morning.
With the new cases, the country's total caseload rose to 2,037,929, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
However, the official death toll from Covid-19 remained unchanged at 29,445 as no new fatalities were reported.

Global Covid-19 cases top 254 million
The overall number of Covid cases has surged past 254 million amid the global race to vaccinate masses against the infectious disease.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 254,289,204 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,113,864 Wednesday morning.
The US has recorded 47,307,829 cases to date and more than 765,731 people have died so far from the virus in the country, as per the university data.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 34,447,536 on Tuesday, as 8,865 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry data.
Besides, 187 deaths due to the pandemic since Monday morning took the total death toll to 463,852.
Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since January, registered 21,965,684 cases as of Wednesday, while its Covid death toll rose to 611,478.
UK has recorded 9,686,190 cases with fatalities of 143,598 so far.

For two months now, a stubborn wave of virus infections has ripped mercilessly through several countries in Central and Eastern Europe, where vaccination rates are much lower than elsewhere on the continent, reports AP.
While medical workers pleaded for tough restrictions or even lockdowns, leaders let the virus rage unimpeded for weeks.

Covid-19 in Bangladesh
Bangladesh recorded two more Covid-linked deaths and 213 fresh infections in 24 hours until Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The daily case positivity rate slightly dropped to 1.03 percent from Monday’s 1.32 percent.
The fresh numbers took the total fatalities to 27,922 while the country’s caseload mounted to 15,72,501, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.78 percent, according to DGHS.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 20,764 samples, it said.
Besides, the recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.71 percent, with the recovery of 223 more patients during the 24-hour period.

Covid cases top 220 million globally
The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 220 million, with the world still grappling to contain the pandemic.
The total caseload and fatalities now stand at 220, 223,874 and 4,560,727 respectively as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 5,427,674, 383 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 39,905,855 cases, according to the JHU, while 648,106 people have lost their lives to Covid to date.

Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
The country has recorded 20,877,864 cases with 583,362 fatalities so far, according to its health ministry.
The third worst-hit country, India's Covid-19 tally rose to 32,945,907on Saturday. Besides, 440,225 people have died so far in the country.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 61 Covid-19 deaths and 1,743 cases in 24 hours till Saturday morning showing a slight downward trend from a day earlier.
Besides, the case positivity rate also declined slightly to 9.82 per cent from previous day’s 10.76 per cent, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers pushed the country’s total fatalities to 26,493 while the cases reached 15,12,026, according to DGHS.
The country last saw 112 Coronavirus-related deaths on June 29 and the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.
The new cases were detected after testing 17,750 samples during the 24-hour period, said the DGHS.
The recovery rate rose to 95.63 per cent, while the case fatality remained static at 1.75 per cent compared to the corresponding period.
However, the situation was much more catastrophic from June to the latter part of August as the country experienced a surge of Covid-related caseloads and deaths during that time.
Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Global Covid cases surpass 202 million
The global Covid-19 caseload surpassed the 202-million mark, as the second wave of the pandemic continues to wreck havoc across the world amid mass inoculation efforts.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 202,211,438 and 4,285,595, respectively, as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 4, 376,808, 997 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 35,738,700 cases. Besides, 616,713 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil, which has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India, registered 990 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 562,752, the health ministry said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the nationwide caseload rose to 20,151,779 after 43,033 new cases were detected.
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 31,895,385 on Saturday as 38,628 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.
Besides, as many as 617 deaths were recorded since Friday morning, taking the death toll to 427,371.

Situation in Bangladesh
With Coronavirus and its new variant posing a real danger to the public health in Bangladesh, the country came up with another shocking figure of 261 fresh deaths on Saturday.
This is the second-highest single day deaths from the viral disease in Bangladesh as Covid-19, fueled by the deadly Delta variant, continues to wreak havoc in the country.
The country has been reporting over 200 single-day fatalities for the last two weeks as it races to head off a surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the unrelenting Delta variant.

There have been 1,343,396 infections and 22,411 coronavirus-related deaths here since the pandemic began, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

Global Covid caseload nears 174 million
Notwithstanding a drop in the number of fresh cases in several countries, the global Covid-19 caseload is fast approaching the 174-million mark.
The global case count and fatalities stand at 173,887,864 and 3,744,378, respectively, as of Wednesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
To date, some 2,176, 376,755 people have been jabbed globally, as per JHU data.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,390,694 cases and
598,323 deaths, Johns Hopkins figures reveal.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 28,996,473 on Tuesday, with 86,498 new cases reported in 24 hours, said the federal Health Ministry. This is the lowest single-day spike in India in more than two months.
Besides, 2,123 deaths were reported during the period, pushing up the death toll to over 350,000, according to the Ministry.
Brazil registered 2,378 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 476,792, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

A total of 52,911 new infections were detected during the period, raising the national caseload to 17,037,129, the ministry said.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh on Tuesday registered 44 more coronavirus-related deaths and 2,322 fresh cases in 24 hours, with the Covid situation worsening post the detection of the Delta variant in different parts of the country.

Although district administrations have imposed restrictions in most of the frontier districts to bring the situation under control, the infection and death rates are on the rise.
The latest death toll pushed up the fatalities to 12,913. The Covid-19 death toll crossed the 12,000-mark in Bangladesh on May 11.
With the new cases, the total caseload rose to 8,15,282, said the Directorate General of Health Services.
Vaccination drive
Around 5,563 people have received the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in the past 24 hours.
A total number of 42,28,741 people have so far got the second dose of this vaccine, while the number is 58,20,015 for the first dose.
Besides, the total number of people receiving their first jab of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine reached 2,162 during the period.
Bangladesh launched its vaccination drive on February 7 with Oxford-AstraZeneca doses bought from India's Serum Institute.
So far, four vaccines – Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield), Sputnik-V, Sinopharm, and Pfizer-BioNTech – have got the approval for emergency use in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, seven million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine reached Bangladesh, and the governments of India and China gave 3.2 million doses and 500,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine as gifts, respectively.
However, the country, the prime recipient of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, has suspended the registration for Covid-19 jabs due to vaccine shortage amid a delay in the arrival of shipments from India.
US delivers emergency medical supplies
The United States, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), on Monday night delivered to Bangladesh its latest shipment of emergency medical supplies to save lives, stop the spread of Covid-19, and meet the urgent health needs of the Bangladeshi people.
This latest delivery brings the financial value of US pandemic assistance to Bangladesh to more than $84 million, tweeted US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller.
The emergency medical supplies include critical personal protective equipment for healthcare professionals and other frontline workers, as well as fingertip pulse oximeters.

Global Covid cases top 171 million
Notwithstanding a drop in the number of fresh cases in several countries, the global Covid-19 tally topped 171 million on Wednesday.
The global caseload and fatalities currently stand at 171,034,625 and 3,557,281, respectively, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
Some 1,931,508,270 doses of vaccine have been administered globally to date, as per the university data.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,287,110 cases and 595,207 deaths, Johns Hopkins figures reveal.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 28,175,044 on Tuesday, with 127,510 new cases reported in 24 hours, said the federal Health Ministry.
The daily spike of new cases in India has been falling over the past couple of weeks. The cases registered in a day have fallen to the lowest level in nearly two months.
Besides, 2,795 deaths were reported since Sunday morning, taking the death toll to 331,895, according to the Ministry.

With the new cases, the total caseload has risen to 8,02,305, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Vaccine procurement
The first batch of 1.06 lakh doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Dhaka on Monday night under the global vaccine initiative Covax.
On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration approved the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine.
So far, four vaccines – Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield), Sputnik-V, Sinopharm, and Pfizer-BioNTech – have got emergency use authorisation in Bangladesh.
The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on May 27 gave the final approval to a proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry to procure 1.5 crore Chinese Sinofarm Covid-19 vaccine.
As per the approval, the Health Services Division under the Health and Family Welfare Ministry will procure a total of 15 million (1.5 crore) vaccine doses in three months—June, July and August.
Vaccination drive

As countries grapple to curb the spread of coronavirus, the global Covid-19 caseload reached near 153 million as of Monday.
The total case count and fatalities stand at 152, 871, 267 and 3,202,699 respectively as of Monday , according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU) data.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has logged 32,421,598 cases and 577,045 deaths to date, as per the university data.

With new variants of Covid-19 spreading rapidly, the global Covid-19 caseload on Saturday touched the grim milestone of 151 million.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh on Saturday recorded its lowest single-day more coronavirus-related death of 57 and 2,177 new cases amid a rising tide of virus.
The daily infection rate rose to 10.34 percent from Friday’s 9.39 percent but the mortality rate was at 1.51 percent. However, the infection rate in the country came down to 10 percent after over a month.
As of Saturday, 7,59,132 cases and 11,450 deaths have been recorded, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a handout.
The number of recoveries now stands at 681,426, (89.76 %), according to the directorate.

The disturbing surge in Covid cases prompted the government to go for a lockdown from early April. Having failed to achieve the intended result, it imposed a complete lockdown from April 11 and extended it to April 28.

However, shops and shopping malls will remain open from 10am to 8pm during the extended period, the government has said.

Bangladesh signed an agreement with Serum for 30 million doses. But a record number of cases in India has made the delivery of the vaccine doses uncertain.
The administering of the first dose will remain suspended from April 26, DGHS said today.DGHS DG Prof ABM Khurshid Alam assured that Bangladesh will get 2.1 million doses of vaccine by the first week of May.
So far, 5,798,880 people have received the first dose and 2,155,296 have got their second jab, according to official figures.
