DSCC drive: Aedes larvae found at 5 buildings
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday found Aedes mosquito larvae at 5 buildings including an under-construction building of Partex Group on the first day of its combing operation launched to keep the dengue situation under control.
After visiting 30 houses and under-construction buildings, the DSCC mobile court fined Tk 28,000 in five cases after finding a favourable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding at five of them.
Led by DSCC's Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam, the drive was conducted in the capital's Dhalpur and Maniknagar areas.

Among others, Ward No. 49 Councilor Badal Sardar, Region-5 Assistant Health Officer Dr. Shihab Uddin and others were present during the drive.
Earlier, Md Mizanur Rahman, chief executive officer of DSCC, directed its officials concerned on various issues and told them to start operating mobile courts at the field level.

He said that it is a proven method to destroy the breeding sources of Aedes mosquitoes to control the dengue outbreak.
Besides, public awareness is also very important to destroy the breeding sources of Aedes mosquitoes.

"We hope that through this initiative we will be able to control the dengue disease in the area under the Dhaka South City Corporation," he added.

7 vehicles fined Tk 22,000 for polluting air in Dhaka’s Khilkhet
A mobile court in a drive on Tuesday fined seven vehicles Tk 22,000 for polluting air in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area.
The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Asma Shaheen of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry conducted the drive and found seven vehicles responsible for polluting air through emitting black smoke.
Later, the mobile court fined the vehicles.
The Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of Department of Environment (DoE) conducted the mobile court drive in Khilkhet area as part of drive against environment pollution and it will continue in Dhaka and its adjacent areas.

Anti-corruption drive absent: Menon
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon on Monday said that the anti-corruption drive of the government has grinded to a halt.
“Corruption is a part of development. But those countries that are on the path of development have taken strict measures to prevent corruption,” he said.
Rashed Khan Menon said this while participating in the discussion of the thanksgiving motion on the President's speech in the Parliament.
He said that China has punished 150,000 persons for various terms on corruption charges.
“Which includes Politburo members. Vietnam has sacked its deputy prime minister. But what have we done in the case of ministers and bureaucrats? No we don’t,” he said.

Rashed Khan Menon said that he will not talk about defaulted loans and money laundering.
“There has been a lot of talk about this in Parliament. In this case, the government's thinking is like that you can say whatever you want, bit I will not pay any heed,” he said.
Rashed Khan Menon said that the US and western imperialism wanted to involve Bangladesh in their plot of war in Russia and Ukraine, whichnis leading the world towards third world war.
“The Prime Minister has managed to keep Bangladesh away from it so far. And this is why all those forces are so vocal about our elections and democracy.”
Menon made it clear that Bangladesh's democracy and elections are its own affairs.
“They should rather take care of their own matters and talk about others later,” he added.
Criticising BNP, Rashed Khan Menon said that they have given 27 points to repair the state is an attempt to take the state back to the 'illegal fifth amendment era'.
“Their 'Rainbow Nation' stands for abolishing the verdicts of the war criminals trials.”

76 arrested in DMP’s anti-narcotics drive in city
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 76 people in separate drives in the capital on charges of selling and consuming drugs in 24 hours till 6 am on Wednesday.
During the drives, 11,303 yaba pills, 195 grams of heroin, 29 bottles of Phensidyle and 19.130 kg of cannabis were recovered from the possessions of the arrestees.

As part of the DMP’s regular anti-drug drive, Detective Branch (DB) and local police raided on various areas in the capital from Tuesday 6 am to 6 am on Wednesday and recovered the drugs.
total of 59 cases were registered with local police stations against the arrested people under the Narcotics Control Act.

Drive inside BNP head office was against attempts for subversive activities, says DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq said on Wednesday that a drive was conducted in the BNP’s Nayapaltan head office on information that they stored rice, pulse, sticks and cocktails.
“Today was an office day. They demonstrated there without any prior permission. SWAT and M-16 have been used against their attempt of committing subversive activities,” he told reporters.
He made the remark while replying to questions from journalists at an emergency press conference at the DMP Media Centre.
The DMP commissioner said the BNP men exploded cocktails from their party office and for that the drive was carried out.
“We beefed up security by increasing the number of police. It was an official day, and they (BNP) didn’t take prior permission to hold the rally”, he said.
Replying to a question whether a BNP activist was killed, the police officer said that they could not confirm the information.
“I was in a meeting. It has to be looked into,” he said.

Asked why police attacked the BNP men and party office, which was seen on a video footage, he said “I don’t know how much footage you have seen; I didn’t see it.”
“So far, I know, their rally is on December 10. Today was an official day. They were holding the rally by blocking the road. They gathered and held rally by stopping traffic despite no scheduled programme. This is not lawful. They did not do the right thing,” he said.
About arrest and harassment of the BNP leaders and activists, the commissioner said that he had no idea about anything like this.
The DMP Commissioner also said that they beefed up security in the city to ward off any untoward incident centring the Christmas Day.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, the BNP activists gathered in front of the head office and started chanting slogans at Nayapaltan. Sensing that the situation could turn volatile, police asked the party members to leave the area immediately. This resulted in a heated argument and at one point, police started beating the activists with batons to disperse them.
Taking shelter in nearby lanes, BNP activists started throwing brickbats in return. To quell the protesters, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets towards them, which injured around 50 people.

Falling sick due to inhaling tear gas, some 200 activists took shelter inside the BNP office. Later, police conducted a drive inside the office and arrested about 100 activists along with party leaders like Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie.
In another development, police obstructed Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Ganatantra Mancha at the Nightingale Intersection of the capital from advancing towards Naya Paltan.

DNCC to launch 30-day drive amid uptick in dengue cases
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will conduct a 30-day anti-mosquito drive in all of its wards, starting November 1, as the capital remains the main hotspot of a recent spike in dengue cases.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam announced the launch of the special drive said during a meeting in Dhaka's Gulshan Thursday.
"Dengue cases are now on an upswing due to untimely storms and rains.The city corporation will work round-the-clock throughout the month to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes, the carrier of the dengue virus, and Culex mosquitoes. The councillors, regional executive officers and health directorate officials will be on the field in each ward," he said.
Even before the country's healthcare system has been able to fully recover from the blow of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is being hit hard by a recurrence of an outbreak of dengue, the disease that is endemic to Bangladesh.

With three more deaths from dengue confirmed today, the official death toll from the disease rose to 123 in 2022 – the second-highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019.
Doctors and health experts say that measures taken by the city corporations and other authorities are not proving to be effective. The publicity and drives carried out by the authorities to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquito are proving to be inadequate.

Eviction drive starts to free Sitakunda hill
Chattogram district administration started a drive on Tuesday to evict people living illegally on the hilly slopes in Sitakunda upazila in the district.
The drive led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman was carried out in remote Alinagar area under Salimpur union of the upazila.
A good number of establishments including dwelling houses and shops were bulldozed during the drive conducted by police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Ansar members.
Mominur said that the eviction drive was conducted as part of a mega plan taken by the government.
He said Alinagar area will be freed from the clutches of criminals within one month as they turned the area into their den.
The DC also said that those who have been living illegally in the area by setting up establishments will be evicted soon.

He, however, said those who are actual landless will be enlisted for their rehabilitation and the drive will continue.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district SM Rashidul Hoque, Additional DC (Revenue) Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan, Additional DC (LA) Masud Kamal and Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shahdat Hossain among others were present during the drive.

DGHS drive: 37 unregistered hospitals sealed across the country
The local administrations of Faridpur, Natore, Kushtia, Chandpur and Bhola districts have shut at least 37 unregistered clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers following the directions of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of them 20 were sealed in five upazilas of Faridpur, seven in Natore, five in Kushtia, four in Chandpur and one in Bhola according to local authorities.

On Thursday, DGHS directed the authorities concerned to close all unregistered clinics, private hospitals and diagnostic centres across the country within 72 hours.
No clinic, private hospital and diagnostics center will be allowed to run their activities until they get a license, said the health authority.
A team of the health service division led by Faridpur district Civil Surgeon Dr Md Siddiqur Rahman shutted down two diagnostic centers in Faridpur sadar upazila, three in Saltha upazila, seven each in Madhukhali and Boalmari upazila, and one in Sadarpur upazila.
During a joint drive conducted by Natore Health Service division and district administration Central Lab Diagnostic, Padma Clinic, Faim Diagnostic, Barat Diagnostic and Clinic, Healthcare Diagnostic, Tamanna Diagnostic, and Madina Eye Hospital were sealed.

Meanwhile, Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr HM Anwarul Islam said following the direction five illegal private clinics of Kumarkhali upazila were shut and another was warned . The closed clinics are, Pratik Adhunik Clinic & Diagnostic Center, Pradip Digital Diagnostic Center, Biswash Dental Care, Shimul Dental Care and Kumarkhali Diabetic Association.
Besides, three illegal diagnostic centers in Haimchar upazila and another in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur district were shut, said Dr Belayet Hossain and Dr Golam Mowla Health and Family Planning officers of the respective upazilas.
Bhola executive magistrate Ali Suja sealed Abdul Khaleque Memorial Hospital after it could not provide legal documents and license while conducting a mobile court drive.

DSCC anti-mosquito drive to begin from June 15
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday said an anti-mosquito drive will be conducted in the DSCC area from June 15 to control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
The drive will be conducted in ten areas under DSCC, he said while speaking at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.
“We have made a plea to the authorities concerned seeking ten executive magistrates to conduct the drives and we hope we’ll get them soon. Apart from it, the combing operation will continue,” he said.

This year, we will keep open the mosquito monitoring control room for two months instead of one month and through it we will monitor the combing operations, he added.
Taposh also urged the building owners to keep their terrace, rooftop, clay pot clean to avoid stagnant water regularly.

2 members of fraud syndicate held in city
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained two members of fraud a syndicate from the city’s Paltan area Tuesday night.
The detainees were Mansur Ahmed, 33 and Mohsin Chowdhury, 55.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-3 and members of National Security Intelligence (NSI) conducted a drive in the area and detained them, said Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab’s Legal and Media Wing.
During the briefing, Moin said the detainees were involved in cheating contractors and construction firms alluring them of giving contracts of different development projects claiming that they have close relationship with some influential persons of the country.
The elite force of seized some documents and digital footprints from their possession.
“There are 5/7 members in the syndicate and Mansur is the ringleader of the syndicate,” said the Rab director.

Mansur was a broker of land and later he got a job in a construction firm, said Moin.
Mansur created the syndicate with the help of Saiful, who is now in the united Arab Emirates, and started cheating people.
