BNP’s associate bodies announce road march on Sept. 16-17
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swechchasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal under the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have jointly announced a road march programme on September 16 and 17.
The protest aims to realise a one-point demand --removal of the current government and appointment of an election-time government, said Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku during a press conference held at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday (September 13, 2023).

"Our primary objective is to assert our right to vote by challenging the current government. We are also committed to restoring democracy, a fundamental pillar of Bangladesh's independence,” he said.
Tuku said they would organise the road march on September 16 in Rangpur to Dinajpur, and on September 17 from Bogura to Rajshahi.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will inaugurate the protest march as the chief guest while senior BNP leaders are also expected to join.

"Similar to previous demonstrations, we encourage everyone, including motorcycle riders, to join our road march programme,” Tuku said.
“We hold great hope that the youths of our nation will come forward--peacefully and democratically--to take part in this movement. Our objective is to mobilise popular support and bring about a change in government leadership,” he said.

Bagerhat Swechchasebak Dal general secretary shot dead
The general secretary of the Bagerhat unit of Swechchasebak Dal, the BNP volunteers' wing, was shot dead by unidentified assailants Friday, police said.
Tanu Bhuiyan, 25, was from the Bashabati area of Bagerhat town.
"The Swechchasebak Dal leader was gunned down near his house around 9:30pm. The unidentified men, who shot him multiple times, ran away," KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagerhat Model Police Station, said.

Tanu was declared dead after he was rushed to Bagerhat Sheikh Razia Naser General Hospital.
"Police are working to find out the reason behind the murder and arrest the killers. We are assuming that someone assassinated him to settle an old score," the OC said.

Swechchasebak Dal’s partial committee announced
BNP on Sunday announced a five-member partial committee of its voluntary wing, Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal, as part of its move to overhaul the party and its associate bodies before the next general election.
SM Zilani and Rajib Ahsan were made the president and the general secretary, respectively, of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said in a release.
Zilani was the former president of Swechchasebak Dal’s Dhaka south city unit while Rajib was the ex-president of BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Besides, Yasin Ali, the former organising secretary of the organisation was promoted to No-1 vice president while Saiful Islam Firoz was kept in his previous position of no-1 joint general secretary and former JCD president Nazmul Hasan was made the organising secretary.
The party also announced the partial committees of Swechchasebak Dal’s Dhaka south and north city units.

Shafiuddin Sentu was made president of Swechchasebak Dal’s Dhaka south city unit while Zakir Hossain its general secretary and Omar Farooq organizing secretary.
Besides, Anwar Hossain was appointed to the post of president of Dhaka's north city unit while Azizur Rahman Mosabbir and Farid Hossain to general secretary and organising secretary post respectively.

Swechchasebak Dal’s partial committee formed
BNP on Saturday announced a 149-member partial committee of its voluntary wing Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal, making Mostafizur Rahman its acting president and Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel general secretary.
