A 30-year-old man was killed in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area early Thursday after being hit by a covered van following an altercation with its driver. The deceased, Sujan Sarkar, worked as a helper for a Green Line Paribahan bus and was the son of Gopal Chandra Sarkar. The incident began late Wednesday night when a Green Line Paribahan bus traveling from Khagrachhari to Dhaka became stuck in traffic at Matuail. According to Sub-Inspector Emran Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station, the bus’s side mirror was smashed by a covered van, sparking a heated argument between Sujan and the van driver. During the altercation, the van driver attempted to flee the scene but hit Sujan in the process, leaving him critically injured. Sujan was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead around 3:10 am. A woman and her six-month old grandchild were killed when a motorbike hit them near Diabari Metro Rail road in the capital early Thursday. The deceased were identified as Mazeda alias Khuki, 45, wife of Ismail Sarkar and her grandchild Rafia Akter  of Sholohati in the area. Moudud Hawladar, officer-in-charge of Turag Police Station, said the accident occurred around 12:45 am when a motorbike knocked down Mazeda with her grandchild on lap crossed the no-2 station of the metro rail, leaving them critically injured. Also read: Road accidents leave 3, including 2 siblings, dead in Bogura Later, they were taken to Uttara Modern Medical College and Hospital from where Rafia was taken to Dhaka Medical College and hospital for better treatment but doctors declared him dead at 2:30 am. However, Mazeda succumbed to her injuries around 1:45 am.  

 A van driver was killed as a speedy truck knocked him down while he was crossing a road at Malibagh in the city early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Md Mamun, 35, son of Abdul Jalil of Baufal upazila in Patuakhali district. He used to live in a rented house in Malibagh Chowdhurypara. Also read: Five die in Chandpur road accident Quoting victims’ cousin Nasir Uddin,  police said  the accident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Friday when Mamun was crossing the road in front of Abul Hotel, leaving him injured. Mamun was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 am on Saturday. A motorbike rider of Pathao, a ride sharing app, was killed in a road accident in airport area of Dhaka early Thursday. The deceased was identified as Yusuf Mia, 20, son of Ansar Mia, hailing from Boro Bhag village of Alfadanga Upazila in Faridpur District. Victim’s cousin Robin Mia said Yusuf used to live in a rented house at Uttara. When he reached airport an unidentified vehicle hit his motorbike around 2:30am, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Mamunur Rashid, sub-inspector of Airport Police Station. The body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy, he said.   

A rickshaw puller was killed as a speeding car hit his rickshaw on Basabo flyover in the capital's Sabujbagh on Wednesday morning. The identity of the deceased, aged about 35, could not be ascertained yet. He was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead by a doctor at around 5.30 am. Also read: 4 of a family among 5 killed in Sylhet road crash Mohammad Bachchu Mia, in-charge (inspector) of the police camp at DMCH confirmed the death and said the body has been kept at the morgue of the hospital for an autopsy.

A woman was killed when a speedy bus hit her in front of Matuail Mother and Child Hospital at Jatrabari in the city on Wednesday.
