Election 2024: List of winners from Dhaka division
The Awami League won a comfortable two-thirds majority for a fourth election in a row on Sunday (January 07, 2024), in 299 out of 300 constituencies, and a strong showing by independent candidates as predicted.
Ruling party candidates won in 222 seats in Sunday’s election, while independent candidates — most of them belonging to AL — won 62 seats.

519 dead in 458 accidents in August, over 27% accidents in Dhaka division
As many as 519 people, including 69 children, were dead and 961 were injured in road accidents in August, said a report today (September 3, 2022).
Besides, 172 lives were lost in 183 motorcycle accidents, which is 33.14% of the total deaths, the Road Safety Foundation said in its latest report, released today.
Also, 109 pedestrians and 94 drivers and their assistants were killed during this period.
Accidents on waterways claimed at least eight lives while six people went missing in 11 river accidents and 24 were killed and nine injured in train accidents across Bangladesh last month.
Road Safety Foundation based its findings on the reports of nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.
Of the total accidents, 252 accidents occurred on the national highways, 199 on regional roads, 109 on rural roads, 64 on city roads and eight in other places, said the report.

According to the report, 27.72% accidents occurred in Dhaka division, 15.28 % in Rajshahi, 21.61% in Chattogram, 10.08% in Khulna, 8.80% in Barishal, 4.14 % in Sylhet, 8.95% in Rangpur and 7.42% in Mymensingh divisions.
The highest number of accidents was recorded in Dhaka division where 242 people were killed in 127 accidents. Twenty-one people were killed in Sylhet division, the lowest compared to other divisions, said the report.
The RSF pointed out several major reasons behind the rise in the number of road accidents.
The reasons include faulty vehicles; reckless driving; desperate mentality, incompetence and illness of drivers; unsettled wages and working hours; prevalence of low-speed traffic on highways; reckless motorcycling by the youth; the tendency of flouting traffic rules, poor management of traffic; lack of efficiency of the BRTA; and extortion in the sector.

Covid-19: Dhaka div sees highest mortality rate
Dhaka division reported a 43.91 per cent mortality rate of Covid-19, the highest among the eight divisions in the country, said Director General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday. Dr Robed Amin, spokesperson for DGHS said this while speaking at a regular press briefing virtually on Sunday.
Read: Govt aims at boosting revenue collection amid recovery from Covid shocks According to the report, Dhaka division recorded the highest fatality rates of Covid while second highest 20.15 per cent death were reported in Chattogram followed by 12.77 per cent in Khulna, 7.66 per cent in Rajshahi, 4.8 per cent in Rangpur, 4.55 per cent in Sylhet, 3.37 per cent in Barishal and 3.02 per cent in Mymensingh divisions. Fatality rates according to age groups: 7 per cent for 51 to 80 ; 11 per cent for 41-50 ; 5.83 per cent for 31-40 and 2.35 per cent for 21-30. However, the mortality rate in the country is 5.87%, he said. Bangladesh reported eight more Covid-linked deaths with 529 fresh cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning. The daily positivity rate slightly increased to 2.63 per cent from Saturday’s 2.11 per cent after testing 20,062 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Dhaka Division win National Cricket League 2021
Dhaka Division lifted their first National Cricket League (NCL) title after seven years Wednesday after beating Khulna Division by 179 runs in the sixth round of the NCL 2021 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).
Khulna needed to score 379 runs to beat Dhaka, but they were bundled out for 199 runs in the last innings of the match. Dhaka won the match by 179 runs.
Taibur Rahman, captain of Dhaka, bagged five wickets in the last innings, conceding 40 runs. In the first innings of Khulna, Dhaka's right-arm spinner Shuvagata Hom grabbed seven wickets.
With three wins in six matches, two draws and one defeat, champion Dhaka earned 35.29 points. Runners-up Rangpur secured 31.74 points.
Fazle Mahmud of Barisal scored the most runs, 603, in this season of NCL with a century and five fifties. Amite Hasan, 590, of Sylhet and Abdul Mazid, 521, of Dhaka were other batters to score more than 500 runs. Amite hit two centuries and Mazid one.
Hasan Murad of Chattogram was the best performer with the ball in this season of the NCL. The left-arm spinner picked up 33 wickets with two five-wicket hauls. Three other spinners – Nayeem Hasan of Chattogram and Nazmul Islam of Dhaka, and Sunzamul Islam of Rajshahi – bagged 32 wickets each.
All of the top-five bowlers of this season's NCL were spinners, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Khulna being the number five, taking 28 wickets.
There was only one pacer who made it to the list of top 10 bowlers in this NCL – Al-Amin Hossain of Khulna, who bagged 20 wickets.

Zakir, Nazmul best performers of NCL 1st round
Sylhet Division's Zakir Hasan and Dhaka Division's Nazmul Islam Apu ended the first round of the Bangabandhu 22nd National Cricket League (NCL) as the best batsman and bowler.
Despite scoring most runs in the first round of NCL, Zakir could not help his team to register a win due to the failure of his teammates. However, Nazmul helped Dhaka pull off a victory against Rangpur.
Zakir hit 151 with a highest of 140 while Nazmul bagged 10 wickets with a six-wicket haul.
All four matches of the round got a winner as Dhaka beat Rangpur by 80 runs, Khulna beat Sylhet by eight wickets, Chattogram beat Rajshahi by 88 runs while Dhaka Metropolis beat Barishal by eight wickets.

Covid-19: Dhaka division sees more deaths than other divisions
With the death of 28 more new Covid-19 patients in 24 hours across the country, the total fatalities in Dhaka division reached 2,507 till Thursday morning as 17 of them died within the capital and its surrounding districts.
