2 children drown in Jamalpur pond
Two children drowned in a pond at Sirajabad in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Simanto, 7, son of Ibrahim Khalil and Minal, 8, son of Shukkur Ali of the upazila.
Mostafizur Rahman Kamal, Palabanda Union chairman, said the two children went missing while they were taking bath in the pond at noon.

After noticing that the two children were missing for a long time, local people started searching for them. Later they recovered them from the pond and took the children to a local hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
2 children drown in Kurigram
Two children drowned in a canal in Alsiar area in Kurigram’s Rajarhat upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Mahadi, 13, son of Sajidul Islam, and Farabi, 12, son of Sohan Mia.
As family members were not around, the two cousins drowned in the canal.

Locals found their bodies floating in the water.
Abdullah Hil Zaman, officer-in-charge of Rajarhar police station, said their bodies were recovered but no complaint was lodged in this regard.
2 children drown in Thakurgaon
Two children drowned in a pond at Nuntor village in Thakurgaon’s Ranisankail upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Md Siam, 10, son of Makbul Hossain, and Al Amin, 12, son of Muktar Hossain.
According to their family, one of them fell into the pond while trying to pick up his shoe, while the other fell while trying to save him.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and recovered the bodies from the pond, said Gulfamul Islam Mandal, officer-in-charge of Ranisankail Police Station.
Three, including two children, drown in Sitakunda
Three people, including two children, drowned in separate incidents in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Tuesday.The deceased were identified as Md. Sohel (44), son of Rafikul Islam and resident of Muradpur union of the upazila, Ishan Das, 3, son of Mithun Das and resident of South Edulpur, and Abraham, 1.5 years, son of Jahed Hossain and resident of Sayedpur union.Dr. Nur Uddin Rashed, Health and Family Planning officer of Sitakund Upazila, said that from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, three people, including two children, who drowned in water bodies in different areas of the upazila, were brought to the health complex.
Two children drown in Chattogram pond
Two children drowned while another went missing in a pond in the Chawkbazar area of the port city on Wednesday night, police said.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Ferdous Hasan, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said the three children had gone to take a bath in the pond belonging to a person, Omar Ali Matobbar, in East Sholoshohor and went missing.

On information, drivers from the local fire service rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies of two children, aged about seven and five, respectively.
"Divers are searching for the missing child," the OC said.
Madaripur toddler drowns in pond
A three-year-old drowned after falling into a pond in Madaripur's Kalkini upazila Sunday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Habiba, daughter of expatriate Iqbal Hossain of Purbo Shikarmangal village.

As the family members were not around, she went near the pond, fell into it, and drowned, Md Shamim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kalkini Police Station.
"Habiba's family members started looking for her as she was not seen anywhere. At one stage, her body was found floating on the pond near her house," Shamim said.
Two cousins drown in Panchagarh
Two minor cousins drowned in a pond at the Khasmahal area of Satmera Union of Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday evening.The deceased were identified as Rashed,11, son of Abu Taleb and Anis, 9, son of Rahmat Ali of the area.Robiul Islam Robi, chairman of Satmera Union said the cousins fell into the pond in the morning while playing on its bank.

Two including a child drowned in separate places of Agailjhara upazila in Barishal on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Yasin Foria, 20, from Sullashi village and Ibrahim Shikder, 1, from Chadtrishira village.

Yasin went missing after he went for a bath in the pond at noon, said his father Shahjalal Foria.
He was later rescued from the upazila health complex where doctors announced him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim drowned in a pond while playing and was declared dead after being taken to upazila health complex,said his father Mozam Shikder.

Two siblings drown in Panchagarh
Two siblings have drowned in a pond in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Mojibor Rahman, 8, and Habiba, 6, children of Abdul Hannan of Shalbahan union in the upazila, said Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Tetulia model police station.
The tragedy occurred on Monday evening when their father left them near the pond in the Khalpara area so as to ferry bricks to the family house in the Nalagach area in an auto-rickshaw.

As they were missing when he returned, along with locals, he started searching for them and recovered their bodies from the pond later, the OC said.
“A case of unnatural death has been filed in this regard,” said the officer.

According to WHO and UNICEF, each year, over 14,000 children in Bangladesh die due to drowning.
Although largely unrecognised, drowning is the second leading cause of death for children under the age of five in the country.
Boat capsizes in Turag, pregnant woman drowns
The body of a pregnant woman was recovered from the Turag River in Ashulia union of Savar upazila of Dhaka after a boat sank in the river Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rozina Begum, 22, wife of Ashiqur Rahman of Rangpur and a garment worker in Ashulia, said Idris Hossain, in charge of Tongi Fire Service.
The boat with 30 passengers on board sank in the mid river in the morning. All the passengers but Rozina managed to swim ashore, he said.

A diving team of Tongi fire service fished out her body from the river around 12 pm.
“The boat might have capsized due to overload. The body has been handed to the family,” he said.
