Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)  arrested an alleged rapist along with his female associate  from the city’s  Monipur under Mirpur Police Station on Saturday night. The arrestees were identified as Md Monowar Hossain alias Sojib,43, and his associate  Mashnu Ara Begum Shilpi,40. Sources at the Rab-2 battalion headquarters said the elite force arrested the duo in connection with the rape of a woman in Monipur on September 16. The victim had admitted her ailing husband to the medicine department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital at around 4:00 pm on September 15. As the on-duty doctor advised the woman to collect O+ blood for her husband, she went to the blood bank of the hospital. As she saw 3-4 people were sitting near the blood bank, she wanted to know about O+ blood.   Monowar, who was standing in front of the blood bank, assured the victim of providing blood. Later he tactfully took the woman  to the flat of Mashnu Ara Begum at Shifa Vila of  Monipur under Mirpur police station at around 1:30 pm on September 16 and allegedly raped her with the help of Mashnu Ara, said ASP Md Abdullah Al Mamun of the Rab-2. The victim did not disclose the matter to anyone  immediately due to the illness of her husband, as well as fearing shame from the society, the ASP said. When the rapist called the victim's husband over cellphone and told him to send his wife to 1st floor of the hospital as  he had managed blood on September 24 at around 7:30 pm,  the victim told her husband about being raped.
