Man to die for killing 2 ethnic girls after rape
A Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing two teenage ethnic girls after rape in Sitakunda upazila in 2018.
The condemned convict is Abul Hossain, of the upazila.
Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Alimullah delivered the judgment.

Another accused Md Manik was acquitted as the charges against him were not proved, said Special Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Ashok Kumar Roy.
According to the case, police recovered the bodies of two ethnic girls from Jangal Mahadevpur Pahari Adibasi Palli in Sitakundu Upazila on May 18 in 2018.
The deceased were- Sukhlati Tripura, 15, and Chitra Rani Tripura, 12, of Tripura Adibasi Palli of the upazila.
Victim Rani’s Father Sumon Tripura filed a case at Sitakundu police station on the following day against the three including the duo alleging that they used to harass the girls.

Another accused Md Rijib died during the trial.
Later, the investigating officer of the case submitted a chargesheet against Abul Hossain and Manik.

4 to die for murder in Rajshahi
A Rajshahi court on Sunday sentenced four people to death for killing a man in 2021.
Judge Anup Kumar of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the judgment.

The convicts are Badal Mandal, 46, of Shampur Paschimpara village in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon, Bimal Singh, 50, of Enayetpur Chorkhair village in Tanore upazila, his wife Anjali Rani, 45, and son Subodh Singh, 28.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each
According to the case statement, Prakash Singh, 20, son of Nirmal Singh of Enayetpur Chorkhair village and a cleaning staff at a sweetmeat shop in Rajshahi, was found dead near Banshidharpur bridge in Tanore upazila with wound marks.
Father of Nirmal filed a case at Tanore police station in this regard.

Convict Badal Mandal had an extramarital affair with Anjali Rani.
As Prakash came to know about their secrete relationship he was killed in a planned way.

Judgment in Hoseni Dalan blast case on March 15
The Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal has fixed March 15 to deliver the judgment in the case over bomb blast at Hoseni Dalan during the preparation for Tajia procession ahead of the holy Ashura in 2015.
Tribunal judge Mojibur Rahman fixed the date on Thursday after hearing the arguments of both the state and the defence counsels, said defence lawyer Faruq Ahamed.
On October 23, 2015, five members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) blasted a bomb at Hoseni Dalan which killed two people and injured hundreds more.

A case was filed with the city’s Chawkbazar police station in this regard and later it was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) police for investigation.
In October, 2016, Md Shafiuddin Sheikh, Inspector of DB (south) submitted a charge sheet in the case accusing 10 militants after getting approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On May 31, 2017, a court framed charges against the 10 accused and official trial in the case began.
On May 14, 2018, the case was transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal where lawyers of two accused claimed that they were minor and submitted documents in this regard.

Later the court announced the two accused as juvenile and asked the investigation officer to submit a supplementary charge sheet mentioning them as under-age.
Their cases are currently under trial at the juvenile court.
The eight accused JMB members in the case are Omar Faruq Manik, Hafiz Ahsan Ullah Mahmud, Sahjalal Mia, Chan Mia, Kabir Hossain alias Rashed, Rubel Islam alias Shajb, Abu Sayeed alias Solayman or Symon, Arman alias Monir.
Of them, Arman, Rubel and Kabir gave confessional statements before court.
The court also recorded statements of 31 witnesses in the case.

Sinha murder verdict: Security beefed up in Cox’s Bazar
Security has been beefed up in Cox’s Bazar town ahead of the delivery of judgment in Maj (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in and around the court premises while a number of check-post were set up at different points.
The movement of pedestrians around the court is also being restricted.

On January 12, a Cox’s Bazar court fixed Monday for delivery of the judgment.
District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail will pronounce the verdict, said Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam.
On July 31, 2020, Sinha was shot dead at the Shamlapur police check-post in Baharchhara Union of Cox's Bazar while returning to town after filming for a documentary.
On August 5, 2020, Sinha's sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court accusing nine members of law enforcement agencies of being involved in the killing, including former officer-in-charge of Teknaf model police station Pradeep Kumar Das and Baharchhara police outpost inspector Liakat Ali.
On December 13, same year, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) submitted a charge sheet against 15 people, including ex-OC Pradeep, police source Ayaz and three APBn members, in connection with the case.
On June 27, 2021, a Cox’s Bazar court framed charges against them.

All the 15 accused are currently in jail. Of them, 12 have given confessional statements before court except ex-OC Pradeep Kumar Das, Constable Sagar Dev and Rubel Sharma.
Other accused in the case are- Inspector of Baharchara Police outpost Liakat Ali, sub-inspectors Nandolal Rakkhit and Tutul, assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia; constables Shafanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah AL Mamun, , Md Rajib and Md Abdullah, ASI of APBN Md Shahjahan and Nurul Amin, Md Nizamuddin and Ayaz Uddin.

Abrar murder case: Court set to deliver judgment today
The verdict in Buet student Abrar Fahad murder case is scheduled to be delivered on Sunday.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamaruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 will deliver the verdict.
On November 14, the tribunal fixed the date (Nov 28) for delivering the judgment after completion of arguments of both the state and defendants.

In 2019, Abrar, 21, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
He was found dead on the staircase of the hall in the early hours of October 7 after he was taken to room No-2011 around 8pm on October 6 and beaten mercilessly.
On October 7, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case with the Chawkbazar police station accusing 19 people.
On November 13, 2019, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector and investigation officer of the case Wahiduzzaman submitted the charge sheet against the 25 accused.
On September 15, 2020, the court framed charges against the accused.

The court recorded statements of 47 witnesses among the 60 in the case.
On March 14, this year, 22 accused, arrested in the case, claimed their innocence while testifying in self-defense.
Three of the accused – Jishan, Rafid and Tanim – remained absconding.

Judgment deferred again in Banani double rape case
With the courts closed in Dhaka Wednesday over the death of a Supreme Court lawyer, the judgment in the Banani double rape case has been deferred for the second time in a fortnight.
The five men are accused in the rape case of two female university students at a posh hotel in the capital's Banani area in March 2017. Police filed the chargesheet against them in June that year.

"The courts are closed due to the death of Abdul Baset Majumder, a senior Supreme Court advocate and that’s why the judgment in this case will not be pronounced," Afroza Farhana Orange, special public prosecutor, told UNB.
On October 3, the trial court set October 12 as the judgment day. But the judgment was deferred on that day too as the judge went on sick leave.

The five accused in the case -- Shafat Ahmed, Nayeem Ashraf alias Halif, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali -- are currently in judicial custody.

Ex-CJ corruption case: Spl court defers judgment to Nov 9
A special court in Dhaka on Thursday deferred to November 9 the pronouncement of its judgment in the graft case against former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and 10 others.
Dhaka Special Judge (Court-4) Sheikh Nazmul Alam Khan set the new date.

On October 5, the court fixed October 21 for delivering the judgment in the graft case filed against the former chief justice and 10 others for laundering Tk 4 crore.
On August 29, seven of the 11 accused in the case pleaded "not guilty" in the case.
They are Mahbubul Haque Chisty, former audit committee chairman of Farmers Bank, former managing director of the bank AKM Shamim, vice presidents Swapan Kumar Rat and Md Lutful Haque, and former SEVPs Gazi Salahudiin, Md Shahjahan and Niranjan Chandra Saha.
On August 24, the defence lawyers grilled the investigating officer in the case, Benazir Ahmed, the director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Some 21 witnesses had testified in the case.

On July 10, 2019, the ACC filed the case accusing former chief justice Sinha and 10 others of accumulating illegal wealth and laundering Tk 4 crore.
On September 25, 2019, the anti-graft body summoned five officials of Farmers Bank for interrogation over the deposit of Tk 4 crore in Sinha’s account with the Supreme Court branch of Sonali Bank.
On December 10, 2019, the investigation officer in the case filed a chargesheet against the 11 accused. On August 13, 2020, a court framed charges against the 11, including Sinha.

Jaha Alam Ordeal: HC fixes Wednesday for delivering verdict
The High Court will deliver its judgment on a rule on Wednesday on compensation to Jaha Alam who languished in jail for three years instead of the real accused in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission for misappropriating Sonali Bank money.
