BNP Standing Committee Member and Chairman of the party’s Central Election steering Committee Nazrul Islam Khan on Wednesday urged party leaders, activists and voters to guard polling centres in shifts to ensure a free and fair election. He made the call at an emergency press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday night. Nazrul alleged that various “illegal activities” are taking place in different parts of the country and expressed concern over incidents involving activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the NCP. “Through you, we request all our leaders and activists, as well as the people of the country, to ensure that what we are about to achieve after years of struggle is not obstructed,” he said. “You will guard the polling centres in shifts. Everyone will go to the polling stations, cast their votes and remain there until the results are announced,” Nazrul added. He said the party wants the election to be held in a free, fair and neutral manner. “Our goal is to establish a strong democratic government with the support of the people and to ensure the welfare of the country in the coming days. Referring to alleged incidents in Dhaka, Thakurgaon, Shariatpur, Noakhali and other areas, Nazrul claimed that there have been attempts to infiltrate polling centres and engage in financial transactions. He also mentioned a reported incident at Saidpur Airport involving the recovery of money from a local leader. “We want tomorrow’s election to be free, fair and neutral. Many of our colleagues have sacrificed their lives for this. We want the democratic rights of the people to be established,” the BNP leader said. He said if entrusted with responsibility, their party will work to implement its election manifesto. Nazrul also protested what he described as “false reports” regarding the recovery of money from the vehicle of Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, the BNP candidate for Laxmipur-3. Members of the party’s election steering committee, including Ismail Zabihullah and Mahdi Amin, and BNP Chairman’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, were present at the briefing.

Some people have become rich through ‘mega corruption’ in the name of mega projects while the condition of the common people is getting worse day by day, said BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Saturday. “We have one demand….this government has to resign. Dissolve parliament and hold an election under a caretaker government,” said the BNP leader while inaugurating the party’s road march from Barishal to Patuakhali under Barishal division at Bangabandhu Uddyan in the town around 11 am.Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies from six districts under the division joined the road march. BNP extends 15-day programmes by 2 days“Apart from our leaders and workers, journalists are not spared when anyone speak out against the irregularities of the government. So dissolution of parliament and arranging the election under a caretaker government has become our lone demand,” he added.Earlier on September 18, BNP announced a 15-day programme till October 3, including road marches, as part of their ongoing one point-movement demanding resignation of the government.The programme was extended by two days till October 5 on Thursday.  5 road marches form centrepiece of BNP's 15 days of activism from TuesdayThe six road marches spread across the country started with Bhairab to Sylhet (Sylhet division) on September 21.The road march under Khulna division will be held on September 26, then Mymensingh to Kishoreganj (Mymensingh division) on October 1, and finally Cumilla to Chattogram (Cumilla and Chattogram divisions) on October 3.Khulna Division Road March will be led by Mirza Abbas and Babu Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.On September 27, public rallies will be held at Gabtoli in Dhaka metropolitan and Fatullah in Narayanganj district. Nazrul Islam Khan and Begum Selima Rahman (Gabtoli), Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury (Fatullah) will be present as the chief guests.A women's rally will be held in Dhaka on September 29. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Begum Selima Rahman will be present at the rally. Moreover, a Workers' Convention in Dhaka will be held on September 30, road march from Mymensingh to Kishoreganj on October 1, farmers rally in Dhaka on October 2, and road marches in Faridpur Comilla, Feni, Misrail and Chittagong on October 3.
