In terms of the model and capacity, the processor is worth the price, as the Nord CE 4 also uses a 4 nm processor of similar performance. The RAM capacity of 50 Neo ranges from 8 to 12 GB. Starting from 256GB, the internal storage capacity of this phone reaches up to 512 GB supported by UFS mechanism. High-end games like Pubg and Call of Duty can be played in 50 Neo without lag; the phone still loses to the broader screen size and better graphics of the Nord CE 4 while playing video games. 50 Neo uses the latest Android 14 with Motorola’s Hello UI skin. The 10 MP (f/2.0) telephoto lens provides clear 3x zoom without losing detail. In low light situations, its camera holds up well, with noise reduction and improved quality through night mode. The 32 MP (f/2.4) front camera delivers sharp, vibrant selfies in good lighting. Overall, the Edge 50 Neo offers great performance for everyday photography and portrait shots. When it comes to mid-range smartphones, Motorola has been consistent with their G series. Last year we had the Moto G84 with its impressive design, display, and performance. Motorola launched the updated G85 5G this year on 25th June 2024. Does the Motorola Moto G85 5G bring value for money performance with other upgraded features? Let’s check it out in detail.  Key Specifications of Motorola Moto G85 5G   Design and Build Quality  The design and build quality of the G85 is almost reminiscent of the outgoing G84. The near edge-to-edge front, tapering edges, matte back, and merging camera housing make the G85 stand out as uniquely Moto.  The dimension of the device comes in at 161.91 mm by 73.06 mm by 7.59 mm with around 171 g or 173 g weight (depending on the vegan leather option). As for the back, there’s either a PMMA/acrylic finish or a silicone/vegan leather finish. There’s an extendable storage option through micro SDXC. However, there’s no headphone jack on the G85 which was one of the highlights on the G84. There’s a single nano-SIM configuration with an additional e-SIM option.  Motorola claims a water-repellent design on the G85 but they didn’t provide any certification for it.  The Display  The display is the biggest highlight of the G85. Unlike last year, the G85 features a near edge-to-edge curved panel. The 6.67 inches P-OLED display has 1B colors, 120 Hz high refresh rate, and 1600 nits of peak brightness. The panel has a 2400 by 1080 resolution with 395 ppi density. Motorola has also included DCI-P3 color space SGS Blue Light Reduction and SGS Motion Blur Reduction technology for increased ease of use.  In terms of real-world use, the display on the G85 feels every bit like a flagship. The steady refresh rate, color calibration, and excellent viewing angles make the G85 a treat to use. The front glass is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 so you can rest assured about its durability.  The Camera  There’s a dual camera setup on the Moto G85. The main camera is a 50 MP, f/1.8 wide-angle shooter with a 1/1.95" sensor and 0.8µm pixels along with PDAF and OIS. The main sensor is the Sony LYT 600 which is commonly seen in mid-range devices. The secondary camera is an 8 MP, f/2.2, 118˚  ultrawide shooter with AF. The main sensor can take some great photos in daylight and well-lit environments. The excellent dynamic range especially stands out due to its balance. There’s a good contrast, color reproduction, and details in each shot. However, the pictures may seem a bit overprocessed in subjects with a lot of colors. The portrait mode lacked a 2x feature. Other than that, it produced decent results.  The wide-angle shooter also performed well though it didn’t quite match the details and vividness of the main sensor.  The night mode on the G85 is the saver when it comes to night photography. The included OIS does a pretty good job of stabilizing the footage.  Processor and Performance  The processor on the Moto G85 is Qualcomm SM6375 Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 based on a 6 Nm architecture. The 6s Gen 3 is a slightly upgraded version of the Snapdragon 695 5G in terms of raw performance.  The processor has a chip design of 2x2.2 GHz Kryo 660 Gold & 6x1.7 GHz Kryo 660 Silver with Adreno 619 GPU. The internal storage is UFS 2.2 which is a slight bummer considering the “ancient” read and write speed. Games like PUBG could be played at Smooth/Ultra settings with smooth frame rates and zero jitters. Free Fire and COD also performed well. However, Genshin Impact saw frame drops here and there with noticeable stutters in the gameplay at times.  The device did pretty well in heat management as we didn’t notice any thermal throttling.  Its RAM power ranges from 8 to 12 GB. Starting from 128GB its internal storage ranges up to 256GB. The battery is complemented by 30W if wired for fast charging. If you’re going with the Indian variant, you’ll get a 33W wired option. Motorola claims up to 34 hours of normal usage on a single charge. In terms of performance, the G85 holds steady though a faster ROM and RAM would’ve benefitted the overall experience.  Xiaomi Redmi Note 13, Nothing CMF Phone 1, and the Samsung Galaxy M35 can be considerable alternatives at a similar price. In the early 2000s, the Razr lineup took the world by storm with the Razr V3. The feature phone was the slimmest flip phone with a futuristic design that looked decades ahead. Over two decades later, the Razr line now represents cutting-edge foldable smartphones from Motorola. The new Razr 50 Ultra was released on June 25, 2024, as a successor to last year’s 40 Ultra. Here’s a detailed take on this year’s flip from Moto. Key Specs of Motorola Razr 50 Ultra   Design and Build Quality By all means, the Razr 50 Ultra brings a similar aesthetic to the bygone era of feature flip phones. The same compact form factor has now incorporated a large cover display and a foldable inner display, among a host of other improvements. The device has a dimension of 73.99 mm by 171.42 mm by 7.09 mm (open) and 73.99 mm by 88.09 mm by 15.32 mm (closed). The effective weight comes in at 189 g with a 6000 series high-strength aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus front, and a vegan leather back. Users will now get a larger cover display, a revamped camera system, and an improved stainless steel hinge mechanism. The crease on the inner display looks even more minimal than last year, visible only under direct light. Ports and buttons are all in their usual positions. As with all flip phones, the in-display fingerprint scanner is scrapped in favor of a side-mounted power button. This year, the device's IPX8 water and dust resistance has also improved. The 50 Ultra will be available in four color options, Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Peach Fuzz, and Hot Pink. The Display Both the cover and inner display on the 50 Ultra use the LTPO AMOLED panel, which has been a trademark choice for Motorola in its high-end offerings. The cover display now comes in at 4 inches with a 1272 by 1080 pixels resolution, 417 ppi, and a 165 Hz refresh rate. It also supports a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, while the inner screen bumps it up to 120%. This is by far one of the largest cover displays among any flip phone out there. The resolution is 1080 by 2640 pixels with a 413 ppi density. The aspect ratio on the inner screen is 85.33% due to the tall aspect ratio of 22:9. Both the cover and inner screen look every bit flagship-worthy. Especially the cover screen, which now supports Google Maps, photos, and Gmail natively. Other apps are available as widgets. App functions are also seamlessly transitioned between the cover and inner screen, making it convenient to use at a glance. The Camera There’s a dual camera setup on the 50 Ultra, with the main camera being a 50 MP, f/1.7, 24mm wide-angle shooter with a 1/1.95" sensor. The front camera is a 32 MP f/2.4 wide-angle shooter. In terms of performance, the camera won’t exactly blow you away. Foldable and flip phones have a track record of prioritizing cameras less, and the 50 Ultra is no different. But it's an improvement over the 40 Ultra. The main camera can take well-exposed and detailed pictures in daylight. The color balance and contrast were on point, with great dynamic range. However, the white balance appears to be a bit saturated, which doesn’t translate to natural images. The details may look a bit oversharpened when zoomed in, but other than that, it was a smooth sail. As for the front camera, it also produced decent selfies. However, you can easily use the main 50 MP camera as your selfie cam thanks to the large cover screen. The videography on the 50 Ultra is rated at 4K at 30/60fps and 1080P at 30/60/120/240/960fps. Processor and Performance The processor on the 50 Ultra is Qualcomm SM8635 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 based on a 4 Nm architecture. It has a chip design of 1x3.0 GHz Cortex-X4, 4x2.8 GHz Cortex-A720 & 3x2.0 GHz Cortex-A520 with an Adreno 735 GPU. On paper, the 8s Gen 3 is slightly below the flagship 8 Gen 3 and more on par with the outgoing 8 Gen 2. But in day-to-day use, you’ll hardly notice any difference. Gaming titles like PUBG and Genshin Impact could be easily played at max settings. Optimized titles like Asphalt 9 ran smoothly without any hiccups. However, the thermal management hasn’t been great on the 50 Ultra. As is typical of most flip phones, this device also suffers from thermal throttling. We noticed a 51% rating on the CPU throttling test, which isn’t all that great. Battery and Charge Time The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra comes with a 4000 mAh battery. The relatively smaller battery can be charged up by the included 45W TurboPowerTM charging support. Additionally, the device supports 15W of wireless charging and 5W of reverse wireless charging. With its improvements, the 50 Ultra feels like a strong contender to this year’s industry-leading flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Although the Razr falls short in terms of performance and other metrics, it also comes at a reduced price point. If you are looking for a solid flip phone with a dash of Razr nostalgia from the yester-decades, then the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra will be an easy pick for you. The Pro lineup from Motorola has been their flagship for quite a few years. Motorola released the Edge 40 Pro last year and the Edge 30 Pro the year before as premium top-of-the-line flagship devices. But this year, the Edge 50 Pro takes an in-between route between a mid-ranger and flagship with the Ultra taking the top spot. The Edge 50 Pro was launched on 8th April 2024 globally as a toned-down version of the Ultra. But as things stand, it might be a better deal than the Ultra for its price. The Pantone color collaboration, back materials, and AI integration all suggest a shift to a statement piece rather than a performance brick.  The dimensions of the Edge 50 Pro come in at 161.2 mm by 72.4 mm by 8.2 mm with 186 g weight. The aluminum frame adds rigidity to the curving design. Additionally, the display is SGS Low Blue Light, SGS Low Motion Blur, Pantone color & Pantone Skintone certified.  In use, the colors look sharp and vivid with a natural feel. The viewing angles are excellent with great visibility outdoors. It’s a pretty well-rounded display that can easily be considered on par with the Ultra model.  The Camera  There’s a triple-sensor camera system on the Edge 50 Pro. The main sensor is a 50 MP, f/1.4, 25mm wide-angle shooter with PDAF and OIS. The other two sensors are a 10 MP, f/2.0, 67mm telephoto lens and a 13 MP, f/2.2, 120˚, 16mm ultrawide shooter. The front camera is a 50 MP, f/1.9, 21mm shooter. Again, the Pantone profile is fully on display here as the colors look vivid and natural. The super-wide aperture of the main sensor also allows for a natural bokeh on the subject background which blends in nicely with the image. The performance was more or less the same with the ultrawide, telephoto as well as the front camera.  The night photography is also on par with the daytime. It has a chip design of 1x2.63 GHz Cortex-A715 & 4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A715 & 3x1.8 GHz Cortex-A510 with Adreno 720 GPU.  The processor also takes a hit in terms of performance as last year’s Edge 40 Pro came with the flagship 8 Gen 2 processor. It has good contrast and viewing angles and the panel was able to consistently push 90 Hz in intensive use and general browsing. It's on par with its competitors like the Redmi 13C and the POCO C65. The only gripe is that the G23 had a Panda Glass protection which is unavailable on the G24 Power.  As an HD+ panel, the display won’t blow you away in any way, but considering its budget-friendly price tag, the room to complain is next to none.  The Camera  There’s a dual camera setup on the Moto G24 Power. The quad-pixel technology brings better details, sharpness, and dynamic range to the images. The post-processing creates 12.5 MP images using the pixel binning method. Images taken in the daylight had a good contrast and exposure ratio. The outcome was similar on artificial light as well with slight overall softness in the pictures. The front camera was also able to capture great details in both outdoor and indoor lighting. In comparison to the other 50 MP sensors of the Redmi 13C, POCO C65, and Galaxy A15, the G24 Power easily comes out on top.  The videography on the G24 Power is limited to 1080P at 30 fps. It produces generic results with stabilization and exposure issues.  Processor and Performance  The processor on the G24 Power is MediaTek Helio G85 based on 12 Nm architecture. It has a chip design of 2x2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6x1.7 GHz Cortex-A55 with Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.  The G85 is a basic entry-level processor at best. Coupled with the eMMC 5.1 slow storage type, the overall performance is slightly hampered even by the entry-level phone standards. The best thing about the skin is that it’s near-stock in UI. It might sound a little odd design-wise, but it seemingly blends with the overall minimalist approach.  The dimension of the device comes in at 162.7 mm by 74.6 mm by 8.0mm with a body weight of 180g.  The top frame has an etched Dolby Atmos logo referring to the collaboration. On the front, there’s a punch-hole display with a sizable bezel on the chin and the sides. But given the price, this is an acceptable design compromise. Being a budget-friendly smartphone, the screen-to-body ratio comes in at 85% and the active area-touch panel comes in at 89%.  The resolution of the panel is 720 by 1600 pixels with 269 ppi and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display performance is satisfactory considering the price. The display is usable in bright light but you’d have to squint your eyes under direct sunlight.  The Camera: A 50 MP Main and 2 MP Macro The Moto G34 features a dual camera setup with the main camera being a 50 MP f/1.8 wide-angle shooter. The included secondary camera is a 2 MP f/2.4 macro shooter. In effect, the G34 is a single-shooter device relying on its primary camera. The smartphone also features a 16 MP f/2.4 wide-angle selfie camera.  Speaking of performance, the G34 produces passable results. Pictures came out decently in bright daylight with a decent dynamic range. The portrait mode of the main shooter was surprisingly good with great edge detection. However, the background blurring may seem a bit too blurred for many.  Pictures taken indoors had some softness issues. The night mode made things a bit better with its exposure and details but the overall softness remained. The lack of any OIS and EIS is felt in choppy video quality overall.  Processor and Performance: A Touch Above the Competition   One of the key highlights of the G34 is its processor. Motorola went with a Snapdragon 695 5G chip based on the 6 Nm architecture. By all means, the 695 5G can be considered as a proper mid-range processor. Using it on a budget-friendly smartphone like the G34 gives it the edge over its competitors. The processor has a chip design of 2x2.2 GHz Kryo 660 Gold & 6x1.7 GHz Kryo 660 Silver with Adreno 619 GPU. The Snapdragon 695 scored up to 439099 on Antutu 10 and 908 (single core) and 2134 (multi core) on Geekbench 6. Sure enough, the processor didn’t maintain constant frame rates, but we didn’t see any noticeable frame drops. However, the device did get hot after 30-odd minutes of gaming but thankfully the processor didn’t throttle.  Needless to say, the device was an absolute breeze in day-to-day use. The high refresh rate display aided well in this regard.  Software: Android 14 with Useful Bloatware  The Moto G34 is running Motorola’s custom OS based on Android 14. Motorola guaranteed another OS update with up to 3 years of security patches. The OS itself isn’t too bloatware-heavy. Since then, the company has evolved with time and introduced traditional smartphones in the market. Particularly, the Edge series from Motorola has been a hit in the mid-range market. This year Motorola released the updated Edge 40 on 4th May 2023 globally. Here’s a detailed take on the device.  Key Specifications of Motorola Edge 40  Design and Build Quality  The Motorola Edge 40 can be considered an incremental update over the Edge 30. Other than some slight changes in the camera housing, not much has changed from the previous gen.  Users will be getting a front glass, metal frame, and plastic back with the Edge 40. And if media consumption is the priority, the Edge 40 can be an easy choice.  The Camera  There is a dual camera setup on the Edge 40. It might be considered a step down from the Edge 30 as the previous model had a triple camera setup.
