Bangladesh Ambassador meets House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, other members of US Congress
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Muhammad Imran has met several congressmen and congresswomen over the last few weeks and briefed them about Bangladesh’s impressive socio-economic development that took place under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
They also discussed various other issues of bilateral interests like the Rohingya issue, peace-keeping, labor issues, trade cooperation, Indo-Pacific Strategy, and regional and global issues.

Ambassador Imran met House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-08), who has joined as a member of Bangladesh Caucus recently, said the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington on Saturday.
He also met four Co-chairs of the Bangladesh Caucus — Claudia Tenny (R-NY 24), Gerry Connolly (D-VA 11), Dwight Evans (D-PA 03) and Joe Wilson (R-SC 02) — at their respective offices.

The Ambassador also met congressmen Rep. William Keating (D-MA 09), Rep. James P McGovern (D-MA 02), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA 21), Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ 09), Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA 06) and Chief of Staff of Congressman Rep. Barry Moore (R-LA 02) recently.

Mehdi Hasan new Bangladesh Ambassador to Sweden
The government has appointed Mehdi Hasan, currently serving as the Director General (Administration) at the Ministry, as the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to Sweden.
Ambassador-designate Mehdi Hasan is a career diplomat belonging to the 17th batch of the BCS (Foreign Affairs) cadre, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

In his diplomatic career, he served as the Consul General in Hong Kong and Counsellor in Manama. He also served at Bangladesh Missions in Moscow and New Delhi in different capacities.
Mehdi Hasan did his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Masters in Water Resource Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).

He obtained a ‘Diploma’ (Masters) in International Relations from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.

Delwar Hossain next Bangladesh Ambassador to South Korea
The government has appointed Md. Delwar Hossain, currently serving as the Director General of Myanmar Wing in the Ministry, as the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea.
Hossain is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 17th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre.

He served in various capacities in Bangladesh Missions in Paris, Tripoli, Thimphu and Beijing in his distinguished diplomatic career, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
At the headquarters, he worked for multiple Wings in different capacities.
Hossain obtained his MBA from IBA, Dhaka University and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology.
He also earned a diploma in International Relations from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, France.

US urged to lead in finding durable solution to Rohingya crisis
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M Shahidul Islam has urged the United States to lead the international community to find a durable solution to the long-standing Rohingya crisis before it becomes a security threat for the entire Indo-Pacific Region.
He expressed deep appreciation for the sustained humanitarian assistance and political support of the United States to the persecuted Rohingya population of Myanmar.

The Ambassador was addressing a function celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with due respect and enthusiasm.
At the beginning of the day's programme, Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M Shahidul Islam, along with the guest of honour, State Department's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ervin Massinga, officially hoisted the national flag of Bangladesh.

Later, the Ambassador and the guest of honour placed a floral wreath at the bust of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
After playing of the national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States, a video message by the Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina was screened.
Ambassador Shahidul Islam paid deep homage to the architect of independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and to the valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of Independence.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Ervin Massinga extended greeting to the government and the people of Bangladesh.
He said the USA sees Bangladesh as an important economic and security partner in the Indo Pacific.
“Bangladesh has established itself as a leading voice on how climate change solutions must protect the most vulnerable. This leadership will contribute to a successful COP26," Ervin Massinga said.

In the second part of the programme, the messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out.
The day’s programme ended with a pleasant cultural program participated by the members of the Embassy family.
On this auspicious occasion, the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken issued a press statement congratulating the people of Bangladesh.

“As we work together towards a safe and secure region and a healthy and prosperous future, we recognise the remarkable contributions Bangladesh has made to global development,” Blinken said in the statement.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Biden said that Bangladesh’s hosting of one million Rohingyas is an example to the world of humanity and generosity.
He also said the United States would continue to be a steadfast partner in finding a durable solution to the crisis.

The government has appointed Ambassador Kamrul Ahsan, currently serving as Secretary for Bilateral and Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the new Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Russian Federation.
Ambassador designate Ahsan is a career foreign service officer, belonging to 1985 batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
In his diplomatic career, he has served in various capacities at Bangladesh Missions in Beijing, London, Washington DC and Dubai.
He also served as High Commissioner to Canada and Singapore. He was promoted to the rank of Secretary in 2016.
Ahsan obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
He also studied at Beijing Language and Culture University and Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies, Hawaii, USA.
