FC Brahmanbaria beat Cumilla United 2-0 in the Bashundhara Group Women's Football League 2021-22 at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in the capital's Kamalapur on Wednesday.
Amena scored first for FC Brahmanbaria in the 34th minute (1-0), and Sagorika sealed the fate of the match by scoring one more goal in the 81st minute (2-0).
In the day's other match, Suddopuskorini JSC beat Siraj Smriti Sangsad 1-0 at the same venue.
Siraj Smriti Sangsad defender Joynab scored an own goal in the 19th minute.

Yonex International Badminton: 3 Bangladesh pairs reach men's doubles pre-quarterfinals
Three Bangladesh pairs reached the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International (Badminton) Challenge 2022 beating their rivals in the round of 32 at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium Thursday.
National player Rahat Ul Nayeem paired with Md Mizanoor Rahman to beat Kanjanakeereewong and Vichayapong Laotherdpong Narueset of Thailand by 21-18, 21-17 points.
Also, Bangladeshi pair Md Nazmul Islam and Md Nishan Uddin beat their Indian rivals Umang Kaushik and Bhawesh Pandey by 21-16, 21-19 points.

Asian Chess: Bangladesh's Razib, Jannatul lose 2nd-round matches
Bangladeshi players GM Enamul Haque Razib and WCM Jannatul Ferdous lost their second-round matches of the Asian Continental Chess Championships 2022 in the Indian capital New Delhi Thursday.
GM Enamul Hussain Razib lost to Grandmaster Rinat Jumabayev of Kazakhstan in the open category. WCM Jannatul Ferdous conceded defeat to WGM Yakubbayeva Nilufar of Uzbekistan in the women's category.
After the matches, WCM Jannatul Ferdous secured one point and GM Razib half a point.

The top four players from the open category will get the chance to participate in the 2023 FIDE World Cup Chess.

BFF U-18 Football: Bashundhara play to 1-1 draw with Sheikh Jamal
Bashundhara Kings drew 1-1 with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi in the BFF U-18 Football League Wednesday.
Golam Rabbi put Sheikh Jamal in the lead in the 4th minute (1-0). Sabbir pulled one back for Bashundhara in the 12th minute (1-1).
In the day's other match, Dhaka Abahani beat Swadhinata 2-0.
Asif Rahman put Abahani ahead in the 5th minute (1-0) and Abdullah Noman Dipu doubled the margin in the 52nd minute (2-0).

Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess begins
The six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022, began Thursday at the Bangladesh Chess Federation in Dhaka, marking Sheikh Russell Day.
All the six zone 3.2 countries of the World Chess Federation – Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh are taking part in the invitational team chess event.
Youth and Sports Secretary Mesbah Uddin officially inaugurated the six-nation meet as the chief guest.
Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif, director of the competition's sponsor Saif Powertec, Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, general secretary of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, and KM Shahidullah, vice-president of the federation, were also present.

All teams will participate in the round-robin league system. At the end of the first phase, the super league will be held with the top three teams. It will also be held in a round-robin league format.
A total of $10,000 will be awarded to the winners. The champion team will receive $ 4,000, the runners-up $3,000, the third-place finishers $2,000 and the fourth-place team $1,000.
In the day's first-round matches after the inauguration ceremony, Bangladesh played against Sri Lanka, Pakistan faced the Maldives, and Nepal played against Bhutan.
The second round matches will start at 3pm Friday at the same venue.
In the second round, Pakistan will play Bangladesh, Bhutan will face Sri Lanka and the Maldives will play Nepal.

National Youth Hockey: Holders BKSP, Dhaka District make flying start
Defending champions Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) and former champions Dhaka District team made flying start in the Al Arafah Islami Bank 27th National Youth Hockey Tournament' 2022 crushing their opponents in two opening day's fixture at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Thursday.BKSP earned an emphatic 12-0 goal victory over Narayanganj District team in the day's 2nd match. Earlier in the day's first match, Dhaka District crushed Shariatpur District by 13-0 goal. Tanjil Rahman Ronak and Mohammad Emon scored three goals each, Rafiul Haque and Najmus Sabid scored two goals each while Shihab Hossain, Pavel Hossain Pappu and Shahrukh Mia Siam scored one each for Dhaka District team. Earlier, President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan inaugurated the meet as chief guest. Chairman of the meet's sponsor Al Arafah Islami Bank Ltd Alhaj Salim Rahman was also present on the occasion as special guest.

Two more matches will be held on Friday (Sept 30) at the same venue. Gazipur DSA will play Shariatpur DSA at 2 pm while Kishoreganj DSA will face Narayanganj DSA at 4 pm on Friday. A record 57 teams, split into nine groups, are taking part in the first phase of the country wide meet.The nine zonal venues are: Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Narail, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Faridpur, Cumilla and Chattogram.

Naniarchar ready to embrace its daughters Rupna, Ritu Porna after brilliance in SAFF Women's tournament
Residents of Naniarchar upazila in Rangamati are overwhelmed with joy as two girls from the sub-district were crucial parts of the Bangladesh women's football team — the current seven-nation SAFF Women's champions.
The best goalkeeper of the tournament Rupna Chakma, who demonstrated her brilliance under the bar, and defender Ritu Porna Chakma are now the pride of Naniarchar.
Rupna and Ritu Porna’s families and neighbours are eagerly waiting to receive them with love for their historic triumph in the tournament. Fans and journalists are thronging their homes to congratulate the families.
Following their success, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman visited Rupana and Ritu Porna’s houses this noon with sweets, fruits and flowers.

The DC also handed over a check of Tk 1.50 lakh each to their families as financial assistance.
DC Mizanur said Rupna and Ritu Porna have made Bangladesh proud through their extraordinary skills in the SAFF tournament and specifically the final.

During his visit at Rupna’s dilapidated home, the DC also instructed Naniarchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Bajlur Rahman, to do everything necessary for building a new house for her and improve the road leading to her house.

SAFF U-20 Championship: Bangladesh to play Maldives on Friday
With a sweet memory of beating defending champions India 2-1, last time runners up Bangladesh will play the Maldives in their 3rd match of the five-nation SAFF U-20 Championship'2022 at the Kalinga Stadium in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar on Friday (July 29).
The match will kick-off at 7:30 pm (Bangladesh time).
Holders India will play all losers Sri Lanka at 3:30 pm (BST) in the day's other match at the same venue.
After the 2nd matches, Nepal and Bangladesh dominated the meet securing full six points from straight two matches while hosts India yet to open the account losing their first match to neighbor Bangladesh.
But, in the goal differences, Nepal top the list scoring seven goals without conceding any (7-0) while Bangladesh is in the 2nd slot scoring three goals against conceding one (3-1).
In the remaining match, Bangladesh will face two times champions and league leader Nepal on August 2.
Bangladesh made a good start in ongoing meet after beating Sri Lanka 1-0 by a Merazul goal in the first match and they brightened their change to reach the final upsetting holders India by 2-1 goal in the 2nd match, thanks to Pias Ahmed Nova for scoring a brace.

The Himalayan nation Nepal made a flying start crushing the Maldives by 4-0 goal in the opener and outplayed the Islanders Sri Lanka by 3-0 goal in the 2nd match
Ahead of the Friday's match, Bangladesh team, divided in two groups, made strength and conditioning, gym, ice bath and pool session at the team hotel Thursday morning and made their practices at the Capital Practice ground in the afternoon.
Five South Asian nations – India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka-- are taking part in this year's fourth edition of the regional youth soccer meet.
After the league basis matches, top two teams will play in the final on August 5.
Nepal are the most successful nation in the meet winning the title twice while India lifted its first title in 2019 after beating two times runners-up Bangladesh.

LAN tournament: Grand finale of D1 Cup Bangladesh 2022 held
The grand finale of the esports championship "D1 Cup Bangladesh 2022," "the largest LAN tournament in the country's history," was recently held at International Convention City Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The tournament, hosted by Discovery One, started on June 14 with a prize pool of over Tk40 lakh – "the highest to date."
One hundred and twenty-eight teams took part in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Valorant; 36 teams participated in the Dota 2 game.
Covenant won the Dota 2 tournament, Septem Exierant Valorant and Venom CR Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Prottoy Hossain, chairman of Discovery One, Shadab Hossain, managing director of Discovery One, Razib Khan, CFO of Dekko ISHO Venture Capital, Md Masudur Rahman, COO of Dekko ISHO Venture Capital, Mohammad Jahidul Abedin, CFO of Paramount Venture Capital, and Md Aliur Rahman Sohan, CEO of Level 7 Solutions and Zenetic E-sports, were present at the final event Sunday.

National Ranking Open Archery Tournament in Tongi on Thursday
The daylong National Ranking Open Archery Tournament will be held on Thursday (July 21) at the Archery Training Centre of the Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi. Some 61 male and female archers will take part in the singles event of the recurve men's, recurve women's, compound men's and compound women's competitions.The ranking tournament will begin at 9 am on Thursday and the final matches will start at 12 noon on the day.
