Nazmul blames three seniors for Bangladesh’s defeat to Scotland
The defeat in Bangladesh’s first match in the T20 World Cup against Scotland left president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hasan shocked. He said failure of three seniors was the main reason behind the defeat.
Ahead of Bangladesh’s second match in the World Cup against the hosts Oman, Nazmul said it would be impossible for Bangladesh to do well if the three seniors— Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad— continue to play like this.

“We have never thought that we could be defeated against Scotland,” Nazmul said in Oman. “We have lost practice matches against Sri Lanka and Ireland. That was fine because we didn't have Shakib, Mahmudullah and Mustafizur Rhaman in those matches. No team can expect a win without their key players. But in the match against Scotland we had everyone. So it was unexpected.”
Bangladesh failed to have a good start while chasing a moderate target of 141. Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar opened the innings, but failed t0 deliver a strong foundation. Nazmul said it can happen in the matches, but what the next three batters did was horrible.
“Let’s not speak about the first two batters,” Nazmul said. “The way our batters did after the dismissals of the first two batters was the reason behind the defeat. We won’t be able to chase in the World Cup if we play like this— every player of the team knows it. We have to change our batting approach in order to do well.”

In the powerplay, Bangladesh were able to score only 25— 4.16 runs per over, which was one of the main reasons for Bangladesh's shocking defeat. Nazmul said the Tigers should exploit the chance of scoring more runs in those overs.
“I didn’t understand the plan of our team,” Nazmul added. “Many of our batters were caught at the boundary line. We have to play those shots during the first six overs. You cannot play those shots when there are many fielders at the boundary lines.”

Bangladesh's Predicted XI: If ODI and Test Teams Played on the Same Day
Cricket resumed at the end of last year after a notable number of international cricket series were postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020. However, we missed some FTP fixtures due to the pandemic. Cricketers are now not getting enough rest while playing the international series. In light of this, the BCCI has confirmed that India will play two international series at the same time in July and August. What would the XIs be if Bangladesh's ODI and Test Teams Played on the Same Day? We form two separate Bangladesh national teams for Test and ODI format in this article.
ICC's initiatives to resume cricket
Bringing cricket back to the field was the biggest challenge for the international cricket council. Initially, ICC’s medical board handed over a guideline manual to the cricket boards across the world, and the cricket committee had taken some important decisions to create a bio-secure environment for the players.
Read: Ban vs SL 2021: How Bangladesh can clinch the ODI series against Sri Lanka
Following their advice, Cricket boards across the world are now organized international series by encapsulating the players in a bio-secure bubble. However, spectators are not permitted to come into the stadium for the time being in order to maintain social distance.
Is playing two international series simultaneously realistic?
It was predicted that ICC will face difficulty organizing the suspended matches when the situation gets normal. That prediction came true as we saw ICC had to cancel a notable number of international series due to the complexity of the schedule. Many think that two international series can be played simultaneously to solve this problem. But is it possible to make two squads for teams other than Australia, England, New Zealand, and India?
The Indian Cricket Board has already confirmed that two separate teams will be announced for the July and August tours to England and Sri Lanka. Both teams will be representing India simultaneously. In July, the Indian white-ball team will face Sri Lanka for ODI and T20I series, while Virat Kohli will lead the Indian red-ball team in a five-match Test series against England in July-August. India has shown that two separate international teams can be formed.

Is BCB ready to accept two separate teams for Test and ODI?
If a circumstance like this appears in the near future, is BCB ready to develop entirely independent Test and ODI teams? The Cricket Board has a lot of very good players, but the reality is, BCB is not ready to accept the formation of two separate national cricket teams for Bangladesh at this moment.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board officials previously told the media that they are exploring the option of forming separate teams for each format, but little has been done other than the selection of different captains for each format. The pandemic coronavirus has taught us that we must be ready for any situation that arises.
Senior players are picked for Test cricket because the longer version format requires a test of maturity and patience. Mominul Haque is our choice to lead the Bangladesh Test side. On the other hand, Bangladesh thrives in limited-over cricket. However, we put an emphasis on selecting young cricketers for the One-Day International format. We believe they can provide the team with a lot of energy and variety. We pick veteran Mahmudullah Riyad to lead the Bangladesh ODI team.

Bangladesh Test XI:
Tamim Iqbal, Shadman Islam, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam
Bangladesh ODI XI:
Liton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah Riyad (captain), Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahadi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain
Bottom Line
Several international and domestic cricket series were deferred last year in the wake of the pandemic coronavirus. By the end of 2020, all kinds of cricket-related activities resumed cricket and we've had a good amount of international series in the last six months. BCB has now realized that they should be prepared for any circumstance. Then all kinds of problems will be easy to solve. If Bangladesh's ODI and Test Teams Played on the Same Day, the cricket board would have no trouble forming separate squads if they developed players for each format.

BCB trying to relax quarantine rules for Shakib, Mustafiz
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to convince the government to relax the quarantine rules for Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, the board's CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said Saturday.
Shakib and Mustafiz returned home from India on Thursday, and are under a 14-day institutional quarantine in Dhaka.
Both players were playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was suspended as some cricketers had tested positive for Covid-19.
Although the government's Covid protocol requires all the inbound passengers to go through a mandatory 14-day quarantine period, the general protocol is not supposed to apply to athletes, Nizamuddin said.

"We are not expecting any special arrangement or privilege for Shakib and Mustafiz. The Covid protocol followed by our country is for general people. But it is different for the international players.
"The general protocol is for people who come to the country by passenger flight after receiving a Covid negative certificate, but Shakib and Mustafiz returned home in a chartered flight and maintained a tight protocol," the BCB CEO added.
He also said the board was working closely with the health authority to minimise the quarantine period of these two cricketers.
The BCB earlier urged the health authority to reduce the period of quarantine for them, but the Directorate General of Health Services declined the request.

The Tigers are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting May 23.
If the authority stays firm to not reduce the quarantine period of Shakib and Mustafiz, the players will have to stay in institutional quarantine till May 19. This means they will get only four days to practice ahead of the series.
The Tigers recently played a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and lost it 1-0.
Bangladesh's last ODI series was in New Zealand where they lost the series 3-0 to the hosts.

14-day quarantine must for Shakib, Mustafizur
Bangladesh cricket stars— Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman— are set to return home from India within 48 hours, and right after arriving in Dhaka, they will have to maintain a mandatory 14-day quarantine period in a government-specified institute, confirmed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The duo were playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was postponed on Tuesday after some players tested positive for Covid-19. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has earlier applied to DGHS to relax quarantine for these two, but DGHS said they have no choice but to maintain a quarantine period.
Currently, there is no flight operational between India and Bangladesh. The Bangladesh authority has put international flights with India on hold aiming to avoid the risk of bringing Covid-19 infected people to Bangladesh.
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief executive officer of BCB, has said Shakib and Mustafizur will have to return home with a special arrangement. He, however, didn’t specify what the special arrangement would be to bring them back home.
BCB is eager to ensure the service of these two in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which will take place later in May. BCB has already announced a preliminary squad for this series which includes both Shakib and Mustafizur.
Bangladesh’s last international assignment was in Sri Lanka where they played two Tests. The first match of the series ended in a draw, the other game was won by the hosts by 209 runs.
Bangladesh returned home on Tuesday from Sri Lanka. After arriving in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s head coach Russell Domingo talked to the media. While talking about Shakib and Mustafizur, he said their inclusion is vital for Bangladesh to win the series against Sri Lanka at home.
“It’s good to have Shakib and Mustafizur back (in the team). The next series will be important as (World Cup) qualification points are up for grabs. We need to bounce back after a tough series in New Zealand,” Domingo told the media.
“It's good to be playing in the home conditions again. As I said, it's good to get experienced players like Shakib and Mustafiz back. We will be playing against a very dangerous side. So, we have to play really well to beat them,” Domingo added saying that the team will practice for three days before the Eid vacation.
