Depression in Bay: Maritime ports asked to hoist distant cautionary signal no 1
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no one as the depression over Southwest Bay and adjoining area moved west-northwards over the same area.
At 6 am on Wednesday, it was centered about 1470 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1420 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar post, 1345km southwest of Mongla port and 1350 km southwest of Payra port, said a special bulletin of Met office.
It is likely to move west-northwesterly direction further.
Low pressure area formed over Bay
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 km of the depression centre is about 40 kph rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls.
Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Depression in Bay: Low-lying areas of 4 districts inundated
The low-lying areas of Barguna, Barishal, Jhalakathi and Bagerhat districts have been inundated due to the tidal surge triggered by the depression that lies over northeast Bay off West Bengal-North Odisha coast and adjoining areas.
All major rivers of the districts were flowing above its danger level, flooding many areas in the districts.
In Barguna, the residents of the districts have been experiencing incessant rainfall for the past six days from Tuesday due to the tidal surge, inundating low-lying areas of the district.
The rivers' waters were flowing above its red-zone. The Payra, the Bishkhali and the Baleshwar rivers were flowing above its danger mark, inundating many villages.
Officials of the Water Development Board, said the Bishkhali river water was flowing 72 cm above its danger zone at Barguna point while 125 cm above at Patharghata point. The weather observatory center has recorded 51.5 mm of rainfalls in the past 24 hours.
The maritime ports of Bangladesh have been asked to hoist local cautionary signal NO 3, according to the weather bulletin.
The low-lying areas have been inundated by the 2-4 feet height above its normal astronomical tide and all fishing boats and trawlers have been asked to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast until further notice.
The inhabitants of the river banks are passing their days in fear as the flood protection dam may collapse any time due to the tidal surge.
Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of Barguna District Trawler Owners Association, said the fishing trawlers were kept at safe places.
Golam Mahmud, radio operator of Barguna Cyclone Preparation Programme (CPP), said it is difficult to say how many days the rains will continue.
In Bagerhat, the Sundarbans have been flooded by the tidal surge caused by the depression in the Bay of Bengal. Many areas in the Sundarbans including Dublarchar, Karamjal and Katka have been inundated, creating a habitat crisis for wild animals.
The low-lying areas in Bagerhat, Sadar, Morelganj, Rampal and Mongla upazilas have been submerged.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans East Zone, said the river waters were flowing 3-3.5 feet above the normal tide. Many deer have taken shelter at high places in the pond.
The deer were seen running to take shelter in high places.
Besides, the fishermen have taken shelter in the Sundarbans.

Depression in Bay: Avoid Cox’s Bazar beach, say tourist police
Cox’s Bazar tourist police have warned visitors to avoid the beach area as the sea remains rough due to the impact of a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The Met office has advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No. 3.
Under its influence, light to moderate showers accompanied by squally winds have been occurring in Cox’s Bazar since Wednesday morning.
Md Rezaul Karim, additional superintendent of Cox's Bazar Tourist Police, said they are discouraging tourists from entering the beach area to avoid any untoward incident.
The tourist cops patrolling the beach have been making announcements and creating awareness among the tourists.
Abdul Hamid Mia, chief meteorologist at Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office, said all fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

The depression over coastal Odisha and the adjoining Northwest Bay moved westwards and weakened into a well-marked low on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the well-marked low over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of India moved westwards, weakening into a low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.
Steep pressure gradient persists over the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, as per the bulletin.

Depression in Bay: Low-lying areas in Bagerhat coastal areas submerged
Low-lying coastal areas of Bagerhat district were inundated due to the tidal surge triggered by the depression in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, causing immense sufferings to the dwellers.
The intermittent rainfall started from Tuesday morning disrupting the normal life of the people in the coastal areas.
Many low-lying areas including Suparipotti, Kachabazar and many roads in Bagerhat district town have been inundated as the water levels of many rivers in Sundarbans rose to 2.5 feet high above the normal tide due to the bay depression.
500 fishermen, who went out from home for the Bay have taken shelter in the Sundarbans' Alorkole, Dublarchar and Bedakhali canals. The sea became very rough.
The river waters also entered many houses.
According to the district Agriculture office, 6.11mm of rainfall has been recorded from 6 am Monday to 6 am Tuesday.

Well marked low intensifies into depression in Bay
All maritime ports of Bangladesh have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3 as the well marked low over Northwest Bay of Odisha Coast and adjoining area intensified into a depression lies over coastal Odisha and adjoining Northwest Bay.
It is likely to move Northwestwards further, said a special bulletin of Met office on Tuesday.

Depression in Bay: Rain across Bangladesh continues; more expected
Many parts of the country are experiencing light to moderate rain which is likely to continue for the next 24 hours due to a depression over the Bay, the Met Office said Friday.
