Bangladesh records 4 more suspected measles deaths; fatalities reach 712
Four more children have died with symptoms consistent with measles in 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday, bringing Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 712.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified the latest deaths as suspected measles fatalities.
With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 619, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93, it said.
A total of 941 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 99,207.
Meanwhile, 116 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 11,710.
Since April 10, a total of 82,844 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 79,152 have recovered, according to DGHS data.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 596, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93, it said.
A total of 996 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 95,760.
Meanwhile, 93 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 11,390.
Since April 10, a total of 79,637patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 75,882 have recovered, according to DGHS data.

Seven more children have died from symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths in Bangladesh to 620.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified the latest casualties as suspected.
With the latest figure, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 529, while the confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 91.
A total of 1,221 suspected measles cases were recorded in 24 hours, taking the overall cases to 79,012.
During the same period, 66 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 9,686.
Since March 15, a total of 64,263 suspected measles patients were hospitalised, of whom 60,084 have recovered, according to the DGHS.

Daily measles deaths hit record 17 again
Bangladesh logged another record-high daily measles death toll as 17 children died from measles and related symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest fatalities, the total deaths from the ongoing outbreak have risen to 545 since March 15 this year.
This marks the second time the country has recorded 17 deaths in a single day – the highest daily toll since the outbreak began. Bangladesh previously reported 17 measles-related deaths on May 4.
Of the new deaths, one was confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining 16 were classified as suspected.
Among the suspected deaths, the highest five were reported in Dhaka division.
With this, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 458, while the confirmed deaths stood at 87.
According to DGHS data, a total of 1,127 suspected measles cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the overall suspected cases to 64,940.
During the period, 97 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 8,719.
Since March 15, a total of 51,585 suspected measles patients were hospitalised, of whom 47,619 have recovered.

Global measles deaths up 50% since 2016
Global measles deaths climbed by nearly 50 percent since 2016, claiming an estimated 207,500 lives in 2019 alone, said Unicef on Friday.
