SWOT Analysis of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2022 Squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board revealed a 15-man roster for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday (September 14) in the late afternoon. Mahmudullah Riyad's exclusion and Najmul Hossain Shanto's inclusion in the World Cup team are the two main discussion points. In addition, the World Cup setup contained all the anticipated names. Let's look at the SWOT analysis of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2022 team
The players who have recently competed for Bangladesh in the Twenty20 International series are taken into account for the forthcoming eighth T20 World Cup in Australia. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the team in the main event.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s retirement announcement from the T20 format made the task easy for the selectors. The cricket board was in doubt over picking Mahmudullah Riyad for the tournament. They ultimately decided to go with Najmul Hossain and Yasir Ali on the team in place of Mahmudullah for the World Cup campaign.
Read Mahmudullah was Dhoni’s equivalent in Bangladesh: Sridharan
The social media platforms roared with Mahmudullah's omission from the squad. The majority of them have welcomed the BCB’s decision to exclude the veteran cricketer from the World Cup squad. A small portion of the Bangladesh supporters, though, haven’t liked the idea of a Bangladesh T20 World Cup team without Riyad. Only time will tell whether Mahmudullah’s exclusion was a timely decision or not. One thing is confirmed, that the Bangladesh Cricket Board wanted to give the young players a chance even though most of their recent performances haven’t been so impressive.
Among the young players, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s inclusion is a surprising one. Shanto has a BPL hundred, but his overall record hasn’t been impressive either. Then how did he make the squad? According to the chief selector, Najmul Hossain Shanto has the potential to play aggressive innings and was included as a backup opener.
But it is widely considered that Najmul Hossain was selected based on his age and his batting technique. The left-handed opener will likely open the innings by partnering with Litton Das. This will be another great opportunity for Najmul to showcase his talent on a big platform, and he should better seize the opportunity.

Besides, Yasir Ali was picked, which many believe is a direct replacement for Mahmudullah Riyad. Yasir has only played one T20I in his international career and that was against Afghanistan in March this year. The right-handed middle order is known to be a very effective hard-hitter in the middle-order. If given the chance, the selectors believe Yasir will excel.
This announced Bangladesh squad will play the New Zealand tri-nation series before taking part in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The selectors also picked four standby players, and they are Soumya Sarkar, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, and Sheikh Mahedi Hasan.

Let’s analyze the Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2022 squad’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Strengths: a versatile bowling attack
Bangladesh's roster has a variety of bowlers, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to display their full potential on Australian surfaces. The selectors included five fast bowlers, two left-arm orthodox spinners and two off-spinners in their kitty.
Therefore, Shakib has the luxury of picking suitable bowlers from the squad to form an effective bowling lineup. However, not having a leg-spinner could be an issue given the fact that leg-break bowlers have proven to be very effective in T20 format cricket.

Weaknesses: Unstable opening lineup and unreliable power hitters
Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto are the main two candidates to open the innings for Bangladesh in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. None of the batters have performed as expected on the international stage since 2021. But there are no ideal alternatives for Bangladesh in the opening at the moment. Therefore, the BCB has picked players who have better techniques as top order batters.
Another major concerning factor is the lack of power hitters in the death overs. Bangladesh's players are lacking in big hitting in the death overs to accelerate run rates. Sabbir, Afif, Mosaddek, Yasir, and Nurul will be responsible for doing the power hitting in the final five overs of the innings. They are all well-known for being aggressive, but none of them is consistent on the international platform.

Opportunities: Captain Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Yasir Ali and Najmul Hossain Shanto
Shakib Al Hasan will have a great chance to demonstrate that he is a captain who can make a difference with a decent team at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. It's a significant test for him, but Shakib enjoys taking on new challenges. Bangladesh will be trying to win at least two games during the main event. Shakib will face a barrage of criticism if his team loses these games.
The forthcoming mega event will be important for Sabbir Rahman, Yasir Ali, and Najmul Hossain Shanto, in addition to skipper Shakib. They are very talented players, and Bangladesh's cricket would greatly benefit if they could maintain consistency in their performances. Sabbir, Yasir, and Najmul will need to perform well at the next Twenty20 World Cup to secure their positions in the Bangladesh T20 lineup.
Threats: Poor form in the pace unit
Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mohammad Saifuddin are expected to make the Bangladesh playing XI. However, their recent T20I outings showed that none of the players are in the best of their form at the moment.

With low confidence, can they make an impact during the tournament? Bangladesh pacers should feel confident in getting an extra advantage from the Australian wickets, which will likely be pace-friendly. However, they need to be well prepared to face some of the world’s best power hitters.

Aftermath
There isn't a significant controversy regarding Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad, with the exception of Mahmudullah Riyad's omission. However, the main concern is whether this side is capable of competing against quality teams in unfamiliar Australian conditions. The Shakib-led team will need to put on a strong performance against teams like India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Afghanistan to vie for a semifinal spot.
As the Sri Lanka cricket team recently demonstrated in the Asia Cup 2022 competition, a team with good momentum can do incredible things in a big tournament. Bangladesh might perform well at the 2022 T20 World Cup if they can find a good team combination, even though the odds are not in their favour. Hope our T20 Cup 2022 Bangladesh team's SWOT analysis helps you find the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of tigers.

Bangladesh Cricket Captains: Performance Review for the Year 2021
Bangladesh played 46 international matches in the year 2021. They won 20 matches, lost 25, and drew one match. Bangladesh have three captains for each format, that had resulted in a variance of outcomes. ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal had the best % winning ratio among the captains, indicating that Bangladesh are a strong limited-overs team. Team tigers won the majority of international matches under T20 captain Mahmudullah's leadership, while Mominul was the most unsuccessful captain. Let's take a look at three captains' performances in 2021.
2021 International Record: Bangladesh National Men’s Cricket Team
The Bangladesh national men's cricket team had a packed calendar in the year 2021. Team Tigers played most of their international matches in the twenty20 format. As a result, they won the bulk of their matches in the shortest format. The majority of their losses also came in the T20 format, as predicted. Bangladesh won two of their historic T20 series under the captaincy of Mahmudullah Riyad, but he also had the most defeats as captain. ODI captain Tamim Iqbal did not play any international matches in the second half of the year, but he had a better winning ratio than the other two. Mominul Haque continued to struggle as Test captain in the year 2021.

Captains' Performance Review for the Year 2021
Bangladesh began their 2021 international campaign with a three-match One-Day International series against the West Indies at home. Team Tigers thrashed the Caribbean side in that series. However, Bangladesh's year came to an end with a 2-0 Test series loss to Pakistan at home. The following is a breakdown of each Bangladesh captain's performance.
Mominul Haque (Test)
Match as Captain: 7 | Won: 1 | Lost: 5 | Draw: 1
Left-hand batter Mominul Haque is still learning the art of captaincy and will require more time to adjust as a leader. Mominul recently guided Bangladesh to a historic Test match victory in New Zealand. Winning a match in New Zealand is a huge accomplishment for Mominul and the Bangladesh Test team. However, the Mominul-led Bangladesh Test team did not do well in 2021. Team Tigers won their lone Test match away from home, against Zimbabwe in July.
Bangladesh lost the remainder of their longer-version matches last year, aside from their lone Test victory. Bangladesh lost both of their Test series against Pakistan and the West Indies. Bangladesh put up a valiant fight against the West Indies but came up short in both matches. Besides, the performance against Pakistan was subpar. Pakistan dominated both matches and deservedly won each Test match by a big margin. Bangladesh's campaign hoped for a stronger showing against Sri Lanka, however, the Lankans also won the series 1-0. Overall, Mominul had a difficult year as captain last year.

Tamim Iqbal (ODI)
Match as Captain: 12 | Won: 8 | Lost: 4
A second-string West Indian squad visited Bangladesh at the beginning of 2021. Tamim Iqbal-led Bangladesh team thrashed that West Indian side 3-0 in the series. Though this type of outcome was predicted from Bangladesh. The New Zealand tour was Tamim Iqbal's toughest challenge as captain last year. As predicted, Bangladesh lost the ODI series (3-0) to New Zealand. They came close to winning in the second encounter in Christchurch but fell short against the Kiwis. Bangladesh went on to win two more ODI series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Tamim did a decent job as captain overall but all of Bangladesh's ODI victories in 2021 were predicted. Everyone would have applauded Tamim if his side had won a match on New Zealand soil.

Mahmudullah Riyad (T20I)
Match as Captain: 27 | Won: 11 | Lost: 16
Bangladesh lost their first and last T20I series of the year 2021 against New Zealand and Pakistan respectively. However, the captain of the Twenty20 team Mahmudullah Riyad was strongly criticized following his performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. Bangladesh did not win a match in the Super 12s, but more importantly, they lost a match against Scotland in the qualifiers. Fans were disappointed by Bangladesh's overall performance at the mega event.
Prior to the twenty20 World Cup 2021, Bangladesh had won two major home series against Australia and New Zealand, respectively. Many argue that winning two home series on slow pitches sent the wrong message to Bangladeshi players. As a result, Bangladeshi cricketers did not reach their full potential during the mega event. Another T20 series triumph for Bangladesh came against Zimbabwe in July. Overall, the team had made little progress in this format despite the fact that the Mahmudullah-led side won a record 11 T20 matches for Bangladesh in 2021.

None of the Bangladesh captains had shown much progress in terms of pushing the team to the next level last year. They all enjoyed some success as captains. but that was to be anticipated from the Bangladesh side. Winning two bilateral home series against Australia and New Zealand were two of the most noteworthy achievements in 2021, and T20 skipper Mahmudullah Riyad deserves credit for both.

Tigers chase down 194 to seal T20 series against Zimbabwe
Despite posting their highest T20 total against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe lost the third match of the three-match series by five wickets Sunday.
Bangladesh won the series 2-1 with a five-wicket victory at Harare Sports Club today.
Chasing 194, the Tigers failed to have a good start as Mohammad Naim fell prey to Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani for only three. However, Soumya Sarkar stood tall at the other end of the wicket.
In the second wicket stand, Soumya and Shakib Al Hasan added 50 runs. Shakib perished on 25 off 13 balls with two sixes and one four.
In the third wicket stand, captain Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya put in another 50-plus partnership.
Soumya was dismissed for 68 off 49 balls with nine fours and one six. After his departure, Afif Hossain added 14 runs off five balls.

As the Tigers were just seven runs away from victory, Mahmudullah was removed by Muzarabani.
However, youngster Shamim already brought the game back under control with three consecutive fours off Dion Myers in the 18th over. He scored 31 off 15 balls with six fours.
Shamim, who made his debut in the second game of the series, had struck 29 off 13 balls but Bangladesh lost the match.
Bangladesh needed five runs off the last six balls. Shamim hit a four off the first ball of the last over to level the score. Off the next ball, he got a single and finished the game for the Tigers in 19.2 overs with five wickets in hand.
Muzarabani and Luke Jongwe took two wickets each, but it was not enough for the hosts to avoid a defeat.
It was Bangladesh's second-highest successful run chase in T20. Their highest successful run chase in the format is 215 against Sri Lanka.
In Sunday's game, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and chose to bat first.
Openers Tadiwanashe Marumani and Madhevere added 63 runs in just 5.6 overs. In the fourth over of the innings, Madhevere struck five fours off Taskin Ahmed. Madhevere took only 13 balls to score 30 runs.

Regis Chakabva struck 48 off 22 balls with six sixes. Soumya Sarkar managed a breakthrough by removing Chakabva and Sikandar Raza in the same over. But it was not enough to restrict Zimbabwe within 150 or 160 runs.
Ryan Burl did the final damage with the bat, scoring 31 off 15 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Soumya was the best bowler for Bangladesh, taking two wickets for 19 runs in three overs.
However, Saifuddin conceded 50 runs in four overs and bagged only one wicket. Nasum Ahmed, who got in the starting XI for the first time in this series, conceded 37 runs.
Bangladesh won the first match of the three-match series, but the hosts made a good comeback in the second. So the third match became the series decider.
Before the T20 series, Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series and one-off Test.

Pakistan to get visas for T20 World Cup in India
Pakistani cricketers will get visas to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India next October.
Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Friday informed the Apex Council about the government's decision on giving visas to the Pakistan players, reports PTI.
Shah spoke to the council in a video conference meeting, where it was also decided that the mega-event – which will complete seven editions this year – will be staged across nine venues.
Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium will host the final; the other venues are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamsala and Lucknow.

DL confusion: Jeff Crowe apologises to Bangladesh
Jeff Crowe, the match referee of the second T20 between Bangladesh and New Zealand, apologised to Bangladesh due to confusion over their target in the match set following the Duckworth-Lewis Method (DL method).
New Zealand batted first on Tuesday and posted 173 for five in 17.5 overs before rain interrupted. The match referee ended the innings of the hosts at that point and set a target of 148 runs in 16 overs for Bangladesh.
But after playing nine balls, Bangladesh were told that the target had been revised to 170 in 16 overs. But later, that too was increased to 171 runs in 16 overs.
Bangladesh’s head coach Russell Domingo said the whole thing was unusual.
“I’ve never seen this sort of incident before. We didn’t know how many runs we have to score when we took the field,” he told the media after the match.
Jalal Younus, a board director of BCB and official during Bangladesh’s New Zealand tour, said the match referee apologised to Bangladesh for this incident.
“It wasn’t something that we’re used to seeing,” Jalal told the media. “It was disappointing. They failed to prove their proficiency. The match referee, however, apologised to the Bangladesh team.”
Bangladesh lost the game by 28 runs under the DL method.
While chasing 171 in 16 overs, they scored 142 for seven in 16 overs. Soumya Sarkar hit a fifty.
With this defeat, Bangladesh lost the series to New Zealand with one match in hand scheduled for April 1.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. Mahmudullah Riyad, the Bangladesh captain, asked Nasum Ahmed, who got inducted to international cricket with this game, to bowl the first over. Nasum got his maiden wicket straightway removing New Zealand debutant Finn Allen for a golden duck.

Glenn Phillips hit 24 off 10 balls coming into the crease at number five. With his blazing batting display, New Zealand passed the 200-run mark.
For Bangladesh, Nasum bagged two wickets while Mahedi took one. Shoriful Islam, the other debutant of Bangladesh, had a bad day at the office as he conceded as many as 50 runs in his four overs.
