Awami League activist dies of injuries at Rajshahi hospital
An Awami League activist who sustained injuries in poll-related violence in Jhenaidah died during treatment at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahim, a local Awami League activist of Krishnanagar village. He was injured in union parishad election-related violence at Shailkupa in Jhenaidah.
According to police, supporters of independent chairman candidate Zulfiqar Kaishar Tipu thrashed Abdur Rahim, who was campaigning for boat symbol candidate Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, at Katlagari Bazar in Sarutia union of Shailkupa upazila during the fifth phase of UP election on January 5.

An injured Rahim was soon taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex from where he was referred him to Kushtia General Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital for better treatment, where he died on Saturday morning.
So far, four Awami League workers have been killed in attacks and clashes in different villages of the union.

Covid: 11 more die at Rajshahi hospital
As many as 11 more Covid patients have died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.
Nine of them died of Covid-19, while one had symptoms of the virus and the remaining one succumbed to post-corona complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani.

Of the deceased, four each were from Rajshahi and Natore districts, two from Naogaon, and one from Kushtia district.
Besides, 26 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 14 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Currently, 330 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital which has 513 beds. Of them, 19 are being treated in the ICU, said the hospital director.

Of the admitted patients, 179 have tested positive for Covid-19, while 90 are with symptoms and 61 have post-Covid health complications.

Thirteen more Covid-related deaths were reported at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours, health officials said on Friday.
Five of them were confirmed Covid-19 patients while seven showed symptoms and another died of post-corona health complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani
Of the deceased, eight were from Rajshahi district, three from Pabna, and one each from Chapainawabganj and Natore districts. Seven of them were men while the remaining were women.

Shamim said that 40 new patients have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, 44 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Besides, some 325 people are currently undergoing treatment at the 513-bed corona unit of the hospital.

RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant of the virus was identified in multiple samples of Rajshahi division.

Of them, seven were Covid-positive patients, while four showed symptoms of the virus.

22 die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital in 24 hours
Twenty-two more people have died of Covid-19 at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, officials said on Friday morning.
Of them, six were Covid-positive patients, while 15 showed symptoms of the virus and another died of post-Covid complications, the officials said.
On Thursday too, 22 patients succumbed to Covid at the hospital.

Hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said that of the deceased, 11 were from Rajshahi district, four each from Chapainwabganj and Pabna, two from Natore, and one from Naogaon district.
So far, 411 patients have died in the Covid ward of the hospital in the month of July, while the number was 405 in June.
In the past 24 hours, 61 new patients have been admitted to the Covid-19 ward of the hospital and 62 released after recovery.

Some 412 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the 513-bed hospital. Of them 20 are being treated in the ICU, said the hospital director.
Of the admitted patients, 186 have tested positive for Covid-119, while 174 are with symptoms and 53 have post-Covid health complications.

25 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital
As many as 25 more Covid patients have died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday.
Hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said that seven of the deceased were confirmed Covid patients, while 14 showed symptoms of the virus and four died due to post corona complications.
Of the deceased, 12 were from Rajshahi district, three each from Chapainawabganj, Natore and Pabna, two from Naogaon, and one each from Kushtia and Jashore districts.
"Meanwhile, 181 people have tested positive for corona at the hospital in the past 24 hours. A total of 620 samples were tested in two laboratories of the district during the period," the director said.
The positivity rate currently stands at 34.65%, which was 33.69% a day before. The infection rate was 29.63% and 25.05% on Sunday and Saturday, respectively.

Shamim also said that 72 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. During the period, 54 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery.
Moreover, 500 people are currently undergoing treatment against 454 beds at the corona unit of the hospital. Of them, 20 patients are in the ICU.

Meanwhile, 248 people have died of Covid-19 and post-Covid complications in the last 14 days, while 405 people passed away at the hospital in June.
Bangladesh is now struggling with the second wave of Covid-19 as every day the country has been registering a record fresh cases and deaths.

19 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital
Nineteen more people have succumbed to Covid at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said Tuesday.
Hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said that six of the patients were from Rajshahi district, three each from Natore, Naogaon and Pabna, and one hailed from Sirajganj district.

On July 1, the authorities recorded as many as 22 deaths in the district, the highest single-day toll so far. Last month, some 354 people succumbed to Covid-19 at the corona unit of RMCH.
"Meanwhile, 158 people have tested positive for corona at the hospital during the 24-hour period. Some 469 samples were tested in two laboratories of the district during the period," the director said.

The positivity rate currently stands at 33.69%, which was 29.63% a day before.
Besides, 63 people have been admitted to the hospital with Covid symptoms in the past 24 hours. Currently, 504 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital which has 454 beds.

19 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital
Nineteen more Covid-19 related deaths were reported at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on till Tuesday morning.
Of the new fatalities, four were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining 15 exhibited symptoms of the virus.

Director General of the hospital Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said that 10 of the patients were from Rajshahi district, two each from Natore and Naogaon, and one each from Chapainawabganj, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Joypurhat and Pabna districts.
He also said that after two days of the rise in infections, the rate has come down again in the district.
At two laboratories on Monday, samples of 658 people from Rajshahi district were tested and 191 were found infected with coronavirus. The positivity rate stands at 29.03%, which is 5.06% less than the previous day.
Meanwhile, 76 people have been admitted to the hospital in the past 24 hours. At the same time, 73 people left the hospital after recovering. Some 489 people are currently undergoing treatment against 454 beds at RMCH. Among them, 19 patients are undergoing treatment in the ICU.

13 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital
Amid concerns over the spread of the Delta variant, Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday morning recorded 13 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours.
Among them, five were confirmed Covid-19 patients while the remaining eight showed symptoms of coronavirus, said hospital director Brig General Shamim Yeazdani.
Of the deceased, seven were from Rajshahi district, one each from Chapainawabganj, Pabna and Naogaon, and three from Natore district.

A total of 405 people, including 189 Covid patients, have died of Covid-19 in Rajshahi division last month alone as the situation is worsening in many border districts.
Shamim said that some 71 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in 24 hours, while 44 people were discharged after recovery.
Bangladesh has enforced a seven-day countrywide stricter lockdown, with effect from July 1, amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.
In mid-April, restrictions on activities and movement were imposed across the country as cases and fatalities rose to their highest levels since the start of the pandemic.

16 more Covid patients die at Rajshahi hospital
As many as 16 Covid patients have died in the past 24 hours at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), health officials said on Friday.
This is the highest single-day death toll recorded in the hospital to date.
Hospital Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said that of the deceased, 10 were Covid-19 positive patients while other six others showed symptoms of the virus.

Of the deceased, nine were from Chapainawabganj district, six from Rajshahi and one was from Naogaon district, according to the hospital authorities.
With the fresh deaths, the district's fatality count has reached 93 people since May 24. Of them, 56 were confirmed Covid patients.
In the past 24 hours, some 32 people have been admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 symptoms. Of them, 15 patients are from Chapainawabganj, 13 from Rajshahi district, three from Pabna and one from Natore district, said hospital sources.
It may be mentioned here that authorities in some districts, including Rajshahi, have already imposed strict restrictions for a week to contain the spread of coronavirus.

This was after the government recently empowered the district authorities to take a call on lockdown restrictions in their respective areas.

On May 31, Bangladesh Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said, “District administrations have been given the power to enforce lockdown in their respective areas if the Covid situation worsens there.”
Due to the recent rise in Covid infections in the districts bordering India, district administrations have imposed lockdowns in Khulna, Satkhira and parts of Naogaon districts too.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 30 new coronavirus-related deaths and some 1,687 fresh cases in 24 hours.
Health authorities detected the new cases after testing 16,982 samples during the period. The number of tests has also increased over the past one week.
With the new cases, the country's total caseload has risen to 8,05,980, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The new deaths have pushed up the fatality count to 12,724.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 last year and the first death on the 18th of that month.
