Dua mahfil for Muhith held in the city
A dua mahfil for salvation of the departed soul of former Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was held at Gulshan(Azad) mosque in the city on Saturday.
The dua mahfil was held after Asr prayer.
Cabinet members, parliament members, relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers of the departed attended the dua mahfil.

M Syeduzzaman, former Finance and Planning Minister, former secretary M Mokammel Haque, Muhith’s younger brother Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Planning Minister Abdul Mannan and others spoke in honour of the deceased.
Muhith was a language movement veteran and valiant freedom fighter. He was elected Member of Parliament from Sylhet-1 constituency.
He, as finance minister of the Awami League government, presented the budget in parliament for 10 years at a stretch.
It was during his tenure that the size of the budget expanded.

Muhith passed away in the wee hours April 30 in Dhaka after a prolonged illness at age of 88. He was laid to rest in his family graveyard at Rainagar in Sylhet.
He left behind his wife Sabia Muhith, daughter Samina, sons Shahed and Samir, and many family members, friends and well-wishers.

Tearful adieu to AMA Muhith
Former Finance Minister, diplomat, Freedom Fighter and language veteran AMA Muhith was laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard in Sylhet on Sunday.
Muhith, the former MP of Sylhet-1 constituency, was buried after Zohr prayers, next to his parents' graves at his family graveyard at Rainagar Family Graveyard in the city.
Earlier, his last namaz-e-janaza was held at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasha ground around 2:18 pm.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, brother of Muhith, Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque,andleaders and activists of Awami League, among others, attended the namaz-e-janaza.
Earlier, his body was taken to Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar by an ambulance Sunday noon where thousands of people from all walks of life paid their last respect to the former minister.

Former finance minister Muhith doing better
The health condition of former finance minister AMA Muhith, now undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital, has improved.
"Muhith Bhai is better than Tuesday. He is doing fine. His saturation is now 96. He ate dinner comfortably and is now trying to sleep," said his brother and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen Wednesday night.

Muhith was admitted to CMH for better treatment after he had tested positive for Covid-19.
The 87-year-old took two doses of the Covid vaccine.
Dr Momen said his brother wathched Bangladesh-Australia T20 cricket match and requested all to avoid any false news about him.
