Season's lowest: Sreemangal shivers at 5.4 degrees Celsius
Biting cold gripped Sreemangal as the lowest temperature in the country this season was recorded at 5.6 degrees Celsius in the upazila in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
The lowest temperature in Sreemangal was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius on February 4 in 1968, Mujibur Rahman, an officer at the Srimangal weather monitoring station, said.

Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.
Severe cold with frosty winds and dense fog is disrupting daily life in Sreemangal. The low-income people who get by working every day are being hit hardest.
Many were seen making fires along the roadsides to keep warm. Most people are staying home unless there is an emergency.
Also, the number of diarrhoea and pneumonia patients – mostly children and elderly – is increasing in the hospitals of Moulvibazar, district Civil Surgeon Dr Chowdhury Jalal Uddin Murrshed said.

A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping Rangpur division; Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Sreemangal, Rangamati, Cumilla, Feni, Brahmanbaria, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Barishal, and Bhola districts and it may continue, the BMD said this morning.
Also, moderate to thick fog may envelop the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere from midnight to morning.
"The weather may remain dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky over the country. Night and day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged," the BMD said.

Mild cold wave is sweeping Kishoreganj, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Kurigram districts and it may spread, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Sunday morning.
Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.

Besides, moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and adjoining area and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning and it may continue till noon at places, it said in a bulletin.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.3 degrees Celsius in Tetulia in 24 hours till 6am today. The highest temperature was recorded at 29.4 degrees Celsius in Teknaf.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

Chuadanga shivering as country’s lowest temperature recorded at 8.4 degree C
A mild cold wave is sweeping over the country and Chuadanga district recorded the lowest temperature this morning at 8.4 degree Celsius. The northern district has been recording the lowest temperatures over the past few days in a row.
The shivering cold is causing immense sufferings for low-income people, forcing them to stay indoors.
Omar Faruk, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said temperatures in most parts of the country decreased over the past few days.
“Dhaka recorded 11.5 degree Celsius — lowest this season — this morning,” he said.
The situation may continue for the next two-three days in the country, he predicted, saying that the situation will improve from January 11-12.
Cold weather is disrupting day-to-day life in Chuadanga and the poor are the worst sufferers.

Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.
Private jobholder Sharmin Malik said she leaves home for nearby Meherpur in the morning for work, but could not do so due to the severe cold and wind this morning.
Day-labourer Jaban Ali said that staying in due to cold weather means no income.
Rakibul Hasan, in-charge of the Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, said, the lowest temperature of the country was recorded in the district for the second consecutive-day today.
Meanwhile, the hospitals in the district are overwhelmed with patients with cold-related diseases.

Of the patients, the number of children and adults is high with cold-related diseases and diarrhoea.

Bone-chilling cold disrupts normal life in Panchagarh
The people of Panchagarh district have been experiencing bone-chilling cold for the last three days that disrupted their normal activities.
The minimum temperature was recorded 10 degrees Celsius in Tetulia at 9 am on Sunday, said Rokonuzzaman Rokon, an officer of Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.7 degree Celsius in Tetulia on Friday and Saturday.
The low-income people including day labourers, children, the elderly are worst hit by shivering cold.
The sun remains unseen most of the time while most of the day labourers can’t go out in search of work due to biting cold.
Many locals were seen trying to keep warm by burning tree branches and dry leaves as the temperature keeps falling.

4 northern districts shiver as mild cold wave rolls in
A mild cold wave is sweeping through Naogaon, Panchagarh, Jashore and Chuadanga, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.7 degrees Celsius in Tetulia in the 24 hours to 6am today. The highest temperature was recorded at 29.0 degrees Celsius in Cox's Bazar.

Mild cold wave likely in Bangladesh this week
A mild cold wave may sweep the country from December 20 to 24, Bangladesh Weather Observatory Team (BWOT) has said.
The intensity of cold may remain slightly less till December 20 while the temperature may fall up to (<10°C) as cold wave may sweep most areas during this period, said BWOT, an independent weather research group.
Mild cold wave (8≤10°C) may hit the country during this period, it added.

The lowest temperature in Bangladesh was recorded at 12.4 degree Celsius in Tetulia of Rangpur division while the highest temperature was 30.01 degree Celsius recorded in Teknaf of Chattogram division.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area over Southeast Bay and adjoining area persists. Its associated trough extends up to North Bay. Ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area.
