Police don’t give political statements, perform duties to protect law: IGP
Police don’t make political statements anywhere, rather they are performing their duties to protect law, said Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Tuesday.
The IGP came up with the comment while responding to a question from reporters that some top police officials are giving political statements ahead of the national election.
He was talking to reporters after visiting the ailing officer-in-charge of Habiganj Police Station Ajay Chnadra Deb at National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in the capital.

About BNP’s allegation that some top police officials are giving political statements, Mamun said, “From my point of view I did not see any policeman giving political statements.”
“We perform duties as per the law and it is our duty to deal with the challenges that come while performing duties to maintain law and order and police will do whatever is needed to ensure security of people,” he said.
IGP promises stern action against any attempt to efface law and order
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday alleged that the partisan remarks of top police officials have exposed that the government is going to hold another lopsided national election.
“There was a meeting of high-level police officers yesterday (Saturday). An officer's statements in the meeting have gone viral on social media. Hearing his speech, I could not differentiate whether he was a police officer or Shahbag Awami League's publicity secretary,” he said.
Turning down BNP’s allegation that police showed some leaders and activists of BNP arrested with old and unused arms, the IGP said, “This allegation is false and baseless. Police took legal action against the BNP men after recovering arms from their possession during the drive.”
Three police officials promoted to additional IGP post
Asking about the arrest of the mother of a Bangladeshi expatriate in the US over his Facebook post, the IGP said, “I want to make it clear that based on intelligence information that some people gathered at the house of a Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Khulna with a motive to deteriorate the law and order situation. Three persons including a woman were arrested but later we came to know that the son of the woman gave a post over Sayeedi on his Facebook page.”
However, police also seized some digital devices, books and mobile phone sets from their possession, he said.
Interpol accepted ‘red notice’ request against Arav Khan, says IGP
Interpol has accepted the request letter sent by the Bangladesh police to issue a red notice against Arav Khan alias Rabiul Islam, a Dubai-based gold dealer and fugitive suspect in the murder of a police officer.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun revealed the information at an event in Chattogram on Monday.
UNB couldn't independently confirm the matter.

“We requested to issue a red notice against him. Interpol has accepted it,” said the IGP.
“We are working on the issue. We can’t disclose the details at this moment,” he added.

Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Saturday (March 18) that efforts were underway to bring Arav Khan alias Rabiul Islam, the fugitive accused in the police officer murder case, to the country through the international police agency Interpol.

The minister said, "All efforts are being made to bring him back with the help of Interpol."
A senior Detective Branch official on Thursday (March 16) said cricketer Shakib al Hasan and content creator Hero Alam who participated in the inauguration of Arav Jewellers in Dubai may be questioned for the sake of investigation.
Police determined to keep law and order situation stable at any cost: IGP
Bangladesh Police is a hundred-year-old institution that has been successfully performing their duties in maintaining law and order, said Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today.
Police are determined to keep the law and order situation stable in the country at any cost, he said, while speaking as the chief guest at the annual police rally, sports competition and prize distribution ceremony of Patuakhali Police at the district police lines this afternoon.
“The prime minister has taken various steps to enhance the capacity of Bangladesh Police since assuming office. There is a stable law and order situation in the country. As a result, an investment-friendly environment has been created. Our per capita income has increased to about $3 000,” said the IGP.
Patuakhali Superintendent of Police Md Saidul Islam delivered the closing speech.
Ensure utmost security on Feb 21: IGP to police officers
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has directed police officers to ensure maximum security on February 21, observed as International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs Day.
"Security measures should be taken after reviewing the intelligence information and security risks to deal with any untoward situation considering the gravity and spirit of Ekushey February," he said at a virtual meeting from the police headquarters on Thursday.
All metropolitan commissioners of police, range DIGs, district superintendents of police and heads of other units joined the meeting.
He also ordered to ensure close monitoring of social media as well as bringing central Shaheed Minars under surveillance in major cities of the country to avoid untoward incidents.
The IGP warned the police force about rumors, stating, "Stern action will be taken against rumor-mongers."
"Like in the past, citizens of the country should be able to observe the International Mother Language Day peacefully," the IGP hoped.
Additional IGPs Md Kamrul Ahsan, Md Atiqul Islam, Md Mazharul Islam and senior officials were also present at the meeting.

Foolproof security measures taken ahead of Ijtema: IGP
Measures have been taken to ensure foolproof security for devotees including foreigners arriving at the Biswa Ijtema ground, said Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Chowdhury Abdullah said this while talking to reporters after visiting the Ijtema ground on Wednesday.
The first phase of Biswa Ijtema will be held on January 13 to January 15 and the second phase from January 20.

The law enforcement forces will also ensure security through helicopter, watch tower, dog squad and CCTV cameras, he added.
The government has taken all-out preparation to ensure smooth holding of Biswa Ijtema in two phases.

Consider police stations as 'service delivery centres' to provide better service: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has asked policemen to consider police stations as "service delivery centres" to improve service delivery.
He was speaking at the "Police Week 2023" at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Parade Ground in the capital on Thursday.
"We will have to make sure that people from all walks of life get the services they need. Also, we will have to gradually improve the quality of service delivery at police stations considering them service delivery centres."
"Everyone is now praising the transparency in recruitment, posting, and promotion processes of Bangladesh Police. I would urge everyone to maintain this transparency in all areas."

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Monday said that the police is working firmly against militancy and terrorism in light of the zero tolerance policy announced by the prime minister.
He said militancy and terrorism have been brought under control through working together on the same platform by all law enforcement and intelligence agencies, administration, public representatives, general people and media under the leadership of the prime minister. These activities will continue in the coming days, the IGP added.

The IGP came out with the comments while talking to reporters after the inauguration of IGP Cup Mymensingh Premier Division Cricket League-2022 organized by Mymensingh District Sports Association and Mymensingh District Police at Mymensingh Circuit House ground this morning.
Terming Bangladesh Police as a professional force, the IGP said that the trained professional members of this force have been successfully fulfilling the responsibility of maintaining law and order in the country. They are ready to deal with any kind of disorder, any sabotage and the force has the ability to face any challenge of maintaining law and order in the coming days as well, he added.
Replying to another question, the police chief said that the police are performing their duties as required to maintain law and order in the country and to enforce the law for the safety of people's lives and property. The police are performing their duties with professionalism without any partisan bias, the IGP said.

Later, IGP exchanged views with the police officers and forces of Mymensingh district and urged all to strive sincerely to keep the reputation that Bangladesh Police has earned by providing services to the people.
Saying that police engagement with the public has been enhanced through community policing, beat policing and open house days, the IGP called upon the Police members to perform its duties with a professional attitude to make it a place of people's trust and confidence.
IGP calls on new police officers to perform duties impartially, efficiently
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Sunday called upon the new police officers to discharge their duties impartially and efficiently.
The IGP made the call while speaking to the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) probationers of the 40th BCS (Police) batch in the capital.

Seventy new officers joined the police as ASPs in the 40th BCS. Among them, 63 are men and seven women.
"Policing will be based on science and knowledge in future. It is a challenging profession where you have to face new challenges constantly. You have to be ready for that," The GP said.
"After one year of basic training at the Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, you will master the professional skills to tackle crime through the use of intelligence, information technology and other techniques," he added.

IGP hands scholarships to meritorious children of police families
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Saturday called upon the meritorious students to come forward to fulfill the dream of making Bangladesh a developed, prosperous country in 2041 .
The IGP made the call while addressing the 'Bangladesh Police Merit scholarship-2022' awarding ceremony for the meritorious children of police families at Rajarbagh Bangladesh Police Auditorium this morning as chief guest. Additional IGP Kamrul Ahsan presided over the programme.
In his speech, the IGP addressed the meritorious students directly, saying: "If you (Students) have patriotism, you can fulfill your duties by being dedicated to the country even if you are outside the country. Just as you have brightened the faces of your parents with good results, you have also to be diligent in brightening the image of the country."

AIG (Education, Sports and Culture) Md. Sohail Rana delivered the welcome speech. Additional DIG Shahina Amin and ADC ABM Zakir Hossain of DMP spoke among the parents of meritorious students.
From the meritorious children who received the scholarships, Md. Abul Hasnat and Nazia Mumtahina, who succeeded in the SSC examination, and Mallik Faiz Islam Meehan and Farzana Haque who did similarly in the HSC, spoke on rthe occasion.
Additional IGs, senior police officers and meritorious students and their parents were present on the occasion.
BNP at IGP’s door; Seeks remedy for ‘fictitious’ cases
BNP on Thursday urged Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to take steps for withdrawing the fresh ‘fictitious’ cases filed by police against the party leaders and activists.
A four-member BNP delegation, led by led by party Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, met the IGP at the Police Headquarters and also handed him over a letter from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in this regard.
The delegation went to the Police Headquarters around 12:50 pm and had an hour-long meeting with the IGP over the fresh cases against the party leaders and activists and the party’s planned rally on December 10 in the capital.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Bulu said fictitious cases are being filed against BNP leaders and followers by police and ruling party activists after hurling crude bombs. “Our people are being arrested in fictitious cases. So, we, on behalf of our secretary general, submitted a memorandum to the IGP in this regard.”
He said they also told the IGP that BNP leaders and workers are being harassed and their houses are being raided to arrest them in fictitious cases. “We’ve sought a remedy for this and he assured us of looking into the matters.”
The BNP leader said their party’s 50 leaders and workers were arrested from the High Court gate though they obtained bail from the apex court.

He said a ‘fictitious’ case was filed in Narsingdi against BNP men accusing them of exploding crude bombs chanting slogans in the name of Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and urging people to come to BNP’s Dhaka rally. “Why should we explode bombs when we invite people to come to Dhaka?”
With the letter of the BNP Secretary General, Bulu said, a list of 169 fictitious cases--filed in between August 22 and November 26 against 6,723 identified and 15,050 unidentified people-- were given to the IGP.
Besides, he said a list of 559 arrested BNP leaders and activists was also submitted to the police boss.
About BNP’s December 10 rally, he said the police officials raised the issue of the rally. “We’ve said we want to hold it (meeting) at Nayapaltan. We sent two letters (to DMP) on November 13 and November 20 seeking Nayapaltan for our meeting venue. We didn't want any second venue.”
He said the police authorities urged them to arrange the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan promising them to extend all-out support in this regard. “We said it is not our issue today…Our standing committee and the secretary general will take a decision on it.”
The other delegation members were BNP Joint Secretary General Sayed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Legal Affairs Secretary Kaiser Kamal.
High police officials, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq, were also present at the meeting.

Earlier on Tuesday, the DMP permitted BNP to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on December 10 on 26 conditions.
However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday urged the government to necessary take steps so that their party can hold the rally at Nayapaltan instead of Suhrawardy Udyan on the day.
